Sarah Palin resigning as Alaska governor

The Wasilla soap opera just gets weirder as Palin complains critics are "picking apart a good point guard"

The letters thread is now closed.

@Xrandadu Hutman

“Joan Walsh held her own against O'Reilly.”

Only on the planet Bizzaro did JW hold her own.

“Upon what basis would Palin's press conference call for compassion?”

On the basis of watching a human being engaged in a “meltdown” as Joan put it.

“The second fallacy in your comment is the idea that Palin's resignation is somehow tied into sexism against her”

I never said that. I simply wondered why Joan felt no "sister-to-sister" compassion – having just given a stunningly bad performance on the national stage herself.

“Nor did Walsh claim, as you state, that O'Reilly attacked her because he's a misogynist.”

Yes, she did in the letters thread. She called him, “a conservative misogynist nutjob.”

“Why would Joan Walsh have blood on her hands merely because she criticized O'Reilly's rhetoric”

Again, I never said she did. Nor did I say that I agreed with O’Reilly saying that. In fact, I never brought that statement up at all. And btw, I'm not an O'Reilly fan. I think he's a blowhard. Much like Joan. Two phonies from opposite ends of the political spectrum.

“This is an ironic statement coming from you.”

Er… okay… if you say so.

“Do you really think there's an equivalence between O'Reilly's commentary about Tiller and Walsh's commentary about Palin?”

No, not in one isolated article. But, yes, just as O’Reilly has trashed Tiller for an extended period of time, JW has trashed Palin for an extended period of time. Moreover, Salon in general has trashed Palin since the day she was nominated. I am not against criticism. But Salon has been particularly vicious and misogynistic in their coverage of Palin. And Joan, as Editor-in-Chief is responsible for that. If you have doubts about how long this has been going on, take a trip down memory lane. Go to Salon's "Sneak peek: The Palin porno" last October right here: http://www.salon.com/mwt/broadsheet/feature/2008/10/20/palin_porn/index.html

“It's also worth pointing out that O'Reilly has frequently assigned producers to go to people's homes and ambush them with an interviewer and cameraman who ask hostile questions while the person's walking out to check the mail or whatever.”

Er… okay… and what’s the price of bananas in Afghanistan these days?

“Looks like your comparison is full of shit. But, we knew that.”

You have a nice day, too:)

THE POT CALLING THE KETTLE

Sarah talking about the Politics of Personal Destruction has gots to be the worst kind of hypocrisy. The Pubs may not have started this stuff but from making Bill Clinton's private sex life into a multi-million dollar scandal that brought him down to the incredible swift boating of John Kerry, the Pubs took personal destructive politics into high octane drive. Those blue dog Dems and conservative voters who helped put Bush in over an intelligent, decent man like John Kerry should be drowning in shame and regret. But they're idiots so I'm sure they're not doing this.

For Sarah to be talking about this "personal destructive" attacks on her when she's inside a party that made it a central part of their program is really something to contemplate.

I love the writer who called her a ticking time boob.

Good news, lefty schmucks -- O.J. was not acquitted this time

So let's all choose a running mate for Sarah. Jeb? Charlie?

Sunday, July 5, 2009 08:47 AM

Terkoy, are you this bold in public?

So many of your letters in these pages involve calling people insulting names like "schmucks." Are you as bold in public, say, sitting in a bar and overhearing a liberal criticizing conservatives, or do you confine all of your bravado to Internet chat sites?

Regardless -- and I know this will not change a thing about you -- your rants do nothing but make you look like an immature and ignorant fool.

As far as I am concerned, you are the perfect representative of the kind of person who wants Sarah Palin to be President.

One more thing, XH...

As I said before, Salon has been particularly vicious and misogynistic in their coverage of Palin since the day she walked on the national stage. And Joan, as Editor-in-Chief, is responsible for that. Here are 3 great examples of Salon’s “coverage” of Sarah Palin:

Gary Kamiya depicts Palin as a dominatrix here:

http://www.salon.com/opinion/kamiya/2008/09/09/mistress_palin/

Cintra Wilson calls Palin a fuckable Christian Stepford wife here:

http://www.salon.com/mwt/feature/2008/09/10/palin_feminism/index.html?source=rss&aim=/mwt/feature

Tracy Clark-Flory on the Salon "broadsheet” posts "Sneak Peek: The Palin Porno" here:

http://www.salon.com/mwt/broadsheet/feature/2008/10/20/palin_porn/index.html

And yes, I think this kind of behavior has been as consistent and relentless as O’Reilly’s hounding of Tiller.

Nurse Ratched, give the cigarettes back to virtue001

then after we cure the depression we can help decide the future course for Mrs. Palin.

virtue001, the difference between criticizing Palin and Tiller.

O'Reilly was inflaming sentiment against a man who provided legal abortions in the context of a history of violence, including murder, being perpetrated on abortion providers. He added fuel to the fire that took Dr. Tiller's life.

Palin put herself into the public eye in a pugnacious way. I don't like the vulgar sexist slurs used against her, but with her vicious public attacks on liberals such as myself, she invites harsh condemnation. She is also demonstrably ignorant and vindictive, but I know you find her compelling and so disagree with that assessment.
