Sarah Palin resigning as Alaska governor

The Wasilla soap opera just gets weirder as Palin complains critics are "picking apart a good point guard"

The letters thread is now closed.

Sermon on the Mount or Gettysburg Address? Talk amongst yourselves

...and after the scintillating oratory, the, er..., uh, ... throng (?) enjoyed some of Mrs. Loopner's famous left-handed egg salad sandwiches and a rousing game of Jarts.

Sarah Palin is off her rocker...

I have a lengthy opinion written about Sarah Palin and the resignation, if anyone is interested in reading.

And the World Turned Upside Down

Somehow so many of you think yourself qualified to make fun of a normal person, who had a normal family and normal children, who tried to do well for her local community, her state and her country. And who, by the way, actually did something.

How many of you have actually held public office? I suspect virtually none.

How many of you were brave enough to bring a child with Down Syndrome into the world? Virtually none.

How many of you are brave enough to enter into a legitimate debate in which you would eventually be forced to be willing to admit that most of your world views, especially on abortion and stem cell research, in truth boil down to "I want what I want when I want it" and "I really don't care about even the vaguest notions of justice, science and logic."

Instead you would rather elect a ridiculous, and not really that good, Saturday Night Live comic to the Senate, and get your news from Tina Fey.

You are, in truth, pathetic.

And by the way Joan, while you editorialize a great deal about Palin's remarks, they reflect your obvious bias. What I could say, is that your rambling poorly written column suggests it's time you vacate the field for a more lucid columnist.

Here's how I see it!

Here’s how I see it; 5 or 6 or how many years ago, a couple of sharp political handlers recognized that Ms. Palin, like

bush’s handlers had done before, was seen to have elements that they could exploit to get her elected to serious political office; perhaps even on the national stage. To a growing number of people these days, cynical political handlers [ala the Wall Street guys] see their jobs essentially as a game and clearly see the overall lack of political awareness of the American electorate. With Ms. Palin, they saw there laboratory subject; she was good looking, represented the family values thing, had some charm and just enough smarts so that they could effectively manipulate her to put her before the public. They got her elected Governor of Alaska; their first minor league success and then fashioned some policies to make her look good her first year in office. Then they saw their chance, linking then Governor Palin to McCain as his candidate for VP; their stepping stone for making her the first female president of the USA. That was their long range objective; after all, it’s just a game. They lost badly. Then they retreated and returned to Alaska to try and salvage their lab experiment, but the day to day news actually continued to expose more serious short-comings in the Governor to the point where the handlers, recognizing that salvaging Ms. Palin would be unachievable, decided to move on. Now, the Governor is on her own, totally exposed without her management team, facing what now would be seen by all as blatant incompetence in office, did the only honorable thing she could do; she quit. That’s how I see it.

RE: She Proved Something Important.........

Palin proved that if you do not wear a hat during cold weather your brain will freeze. I think that all Americans who live in cold weather states should thank her for this public service that she unknowingly performed. She may become the Sister Falconer of our and lead tent revivial meetings with Todd as her lacky. Then again with all these Republicans dropping their pants she may end up in porno flicks. There is are similarities between politics and porn after all

especially when it comes to the Republican party.

@Anduril -- None dare call a spade a spade in this nether world

Not when Joan can show her boss all these comments (read ad exposure.) Just like the monthly call for the hanging, drawing, quartering of Camille Paglia yet she draws 600 stone-throwing comments.

That quitter sure is a fighter :>)

Righties are masters at turning phrases on their heads. Of turning reality on its head. That's what they do best.

"Liberal fascism" is one of those surreal and completely meaningless terms that come out of wingnut brains. They think it's clever, even though it's impossible.

So Palin is a wonderful fighter because she quit. She's a great point guard because she passed the ball and left the gym.

She's a wonderful Christian women because she lets a witchdoctor do an exorcism on her.

And she's doing what's best for Alaska by quitting her post.

Uh, well, on that last one, she's right . . .

As for Obama and all of this nonsense about the deficit and his "socialism", etc.

Bush handed him an 11 trillion dollar debt, and a more than 1.2 trillion dollar current accounts deficit, two wars, a collapsing economy that produced just 1.45 million jobs in eight years, record trade deficits, and declining tax revenues in four of Bush's eight years.

Obama's been in office for a little more than five months. He INHERITED this mess, and HE'S destroying the economy?

It's also amazing that righties are upset with his policies. They should be jumping for joy. He bailed out Capitalism at its core. He saved Wall Street and made it safe for CEOs again to be rapacious. He's "nationalized" a total of 00.21% of American private assets, and will be denationalizing most of that tiny fraction once Detroit gets back on its feet.

He's been the a very, very good friend to Big Business. Basically, he's continued the Bush bailout of Corporate America and has NOT governed as a progressive on economic matters. To the extent that we're still in trouble economically, it's a combination of the fact that he inherited the worst economy since the Great Depression, and that he refused to implement the far more sensible reforms advocated by Krugman, Stiglitz, Galbraith, etc. etc.

Righties show their extreme ignorance by calling Obama a socialist. He's far, far from it. And they show their hypocrisy by blaming him for continuing the policies they applauded when Bush enacted them. They show their total lack of principle by blaming him for the mess created by Bush, someone they loved and honored and defended until the end.
