The Wasilla soap opera just gets weirder as Palin complains critics are "picking apart a good point guard"

To Joejoe

Why the double word think?

You wrote:

"i read what you wrote and think of so many times i have seen you angry and rambling on tv...with your tone and inflection, in my opinion, completely off."

I have to watch all of the major cable news networks all day at work five days a week.

Seeing Joan Walsh on the idiot box is always a treat (almost as much as seeing KO and RM).

I have never seen her ramble, she always give her opinion direct and to the point, whether she is screaming at Bill O or interviewed by the more receptive KO and RM (I have actually seen her more on the conservative shows).

Walsh is a strongly opinionated women, and she has good reasons to be angry:

Anti-abortion violence and extremism.

Glass ceilings.

Racism and sexism from conservative pundits and politicians.

Lies and falsehoods from neo-cons and the Christian Right No-Fundies.

And the list goes on.

People use Salon to vent, and therapeutically there is nothing wrong with that, and Walsh is not responsible for what the letter writers here write.

If you don't want to read the comments section, then don't read it.

@ FaulknerJr

Thank you for your vote of confidence. It is not about “a few anonymous emails that Sarah Palin will likely never know were written.” Somehow, I suspect that anything we write here is not going to be read or heard by anybody outside of Salon.

It is very sad that the famous question ”Can’t we all get along?” has for now a definite answer NO when it comes to the relationship between the Liberals and Conservatives. I don’t endorse hate speech no matter what side it comes from.

But justifying your own hate by the fact that the “other side” practices that as well is not going to get us anywhere.

My point was that an Editor-in–Chief of a publication such as Salon can either amplify the hateful attitude of the readers toward the political opponents or try to become a voice of reason.

You wrote:

“Yes, I read at least one post in this thread that was disgusting and beyond the pale. Give that poster a radio show and twenty million listeners, and we have Rush Limbaugh.”

Let me disagree with you on the latest statement. Even if you give somebody a radio show, he or she will not be automatically given twenty million listeners.

Those listeners can only be attracted by the talent of the talk show host.

Where is such a talented liberal talk show person who could take the listeners away from Rush Limbaugh through the mechanism of the free market, and not by force?

@trend2121

that is exactly why i think it is destructive. during the election i was a part of the salon rush to post any kind of horrific text that i could...not all posts from everyone were like that -- but so many were...and many of mine were as well. i stopped reading salon for about 8 months after that because it felt so destructive to me. i felt like i was a part of something so malicious and unproductive. the posts you quote of mine are not just embarrassing, but also just a part of the deal that i feel is creating an environment that ends up shooting the dem party in the foot. i know it was destructive for me to be posting things like that and i can't imagine it was helpful to any reader either. when i come back once in awhile to take a look at salon, i notice the vibe is always the same...and wanted to know if joan noticed that, and had anything to do with it...

thanks.

further indication the republican party doesn't support Palin

"WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, today made the following statement after Gov. Sarah Palin’s announcement that she plans to step down as governor later this month.

“I am deeply disappointed that the Governor has decided to abandon the State and her constituents before her term has concluded.”

that's from Murkowski's web page.

ABANDON. those are spit in your face words.

the soon-to-be scandal may be a doozy if that's the "support" Palin is getting from her own party in her own state.

With Palin, who knows?

If it were any other politician I would say we need to be ready for the skeleton to emerge from the closet and the ulterior motive to show itself. But with Palin, the motive really could be as petty and naive as it seems. She has larger ambitions now. Her responsibilities as governor of a geographically distant state, during a time of recession and relatively low oil prices is impeding those ambitions. Also all those pesky reporters and political opponents are always attacking her.

I wish her well in her future endeavors. But if she sees this as the ultimate hail Mary pass that will get her to the White House she is horribly mistaken. This move might give her greater opportunity to cater to the Republican base but those people already adore her. To be competitive in 2012 she will need to win over the independents who polls show, believe she lacks substance, and gravitas. This decision will only confirm their worst suspicions. They have certainly confirmed mine.

"I don’t endorse hate speech no matter what side it comes from."

Keep in mind their hate (the wingnuts) is directed at Hispanics, African Americans, Feminists, immigrants (undocumented or otherwise), non-English speakers or English second languagers, gays, non-Christians, labor unions and unionists, intellectuals, and pretty much anybody who isn't strictly white and white bread.

Where as our dislike is aimed at specific individuals (such as Palin), psychotic corporations and corporate boards, global warming deniers, creationists, unscrupulous deregulators and white collar criminals, and others who promote war and are destroying our planet.

Which side do you want to be on?

Since America has a two party system, it is our nature to debate everything, and the question is; which side do you want to be on?
