Sarah Palin resigning as Alaska governor

The Wasilla soap opera just gets weirder as Palin complains critics are "picking apart a good point guard"

The letters thread is now closed.

she used a teleprompter, terkoy

yet another delusional statement... but you're wrong. (in raw footage the teleprompter is attached to the camera and she sounds like she's gulping air b/c there's no filter - you can find it online if you want to see/hear it... there's a second camera that scans the massive crowd of at least half a dozen as she leaves the podium.)

The reality is that demographics, as someone else noted in these comments, are against the Palin branch of the republican party. Republican operatives know this even if you don't. But, again, this information is available online.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/118528/gop-losses-span-nearly-demographic-groups.aspx

gop losses span nearly ALL demographic groups. the only group that supports the self-inflicted republican death march led by Limbaugh is frequent church goers - the same group that would straw poll for Palin and Huckabee rather than a moderate candidate that does not base campaigns on hate.

in other words, the republican base will insure that republicans cannot win national elections.

I find it really interesting that right wingers protest about liberal vitriol toward republicans when liberals have heard putrid hate speech from Limbaugh, Coulter, Robertson, Falwell, Dobson, (and Palin in 2008) etc. for YEARS - and when liberals finally tell you to go to hell... oh, suddenly they're sooooo uncivil - I guess you're reaping what you've sown. typical behavior from impotent bullies, tho.

highlyunlikely - baisers, chou chou. the recent visit to the creationist museum by scientists from around the world really gave them a view of the level of stupidity among the republican base. when people from other western democracies come here and see just how willfully ignorant a chunk of the population is - after getting past the scary realization that these people are electing leaders with the power of life and death of billions - it's pretty funny. sick but funny.

um...

Yea, Run for President... she would get savaged in the primary by her own party (and none of them really want that to HAVE to happen)

Quitting The job of governor (of Alaska no less) before the end of your first ever term to focus on running for president of the US. is kind of like quitting your first job flipping burgers to focus on becoming CEO of Goldman Sachs...

Didn't Dubya use a teleprompter?

(Not that he could read/comprehend worth a damm, but, hey...;)) If he did, then what is Obama's sin in using one?

She smells the money

Clearly she is opting for free agency and a chance to make millions on the speech circuit.

Notice the timing on this announcement and the Vantity Fair piece that was not flattering.

Palin The Gardener

Readerreader. After thinking about it, you remind me of the people in Being There who see what they want to see in Chance the Gardener no matter what he says or does.

I actually respect the fact that you like this politican and at times your writing is compelling when you state your case for why you support her, but good God, don't you ever just want to hit yourself on the forehead over some of the things she says? I mean she is stupefyingly idiotic at times. "In what way Charlie?" "I read them all." I could go on, but I've tried to erase most of her speeches and interviews from my mind.

@Lucy with Diamonds

Thank you for asking about personal details.

I gave $50 to McCain/Palin the day of Palin's announcement, and $50 to the Sarah PAC shortly after its announcement. No other affiliations. I checked out the "Team Sarah" web site this spring, but I am not a member, and post nowhere other than on this site.

I sent Sarah Palin a letter on my daughter's behalf after the campaign, and received a nice note from her father in response along with a signed picture I requested for my daughter.

I voted for all Democrats but one last year, and would have voted for Obama had it not been for Palin. (The others were protest votes; I'm a conservative).

I "quit" Salon last night because I failed in 1,000+ posts to make any impression -- not on the politics, but on simple respect -- and came back for a curtain call because FaulknerJr asked and in the circumstance, I couldn't help myself.

Why do I compare Sarah to Nixon, among others? I've never said she's perfect. I do think she would be a good president, but I've never said she would be wildly better than her rivals.

Besides, I'm not trying to persuade any more. I'm just leaving myself a little record of my thoughts, as much as anything.

As I wrote once before, the predominant image I have of Sarah Palin was formed in Bavaria, where an elderly innskeeper showed me her prized lithograph of Elizabeth of Austria -- who grew up nearby. I took a picture of it. I sent that picture with my letter to Sarah. The innkeeper's reverence was cultural, not political. That's mostly how I feel about Sarah. I've explained why in other posts. Even my Democrat wife voted for her. She's like an older sister, or a neighbor from the rural roads of my youth. I trust those people implicitly, and I trust Sarah too.

Take care.

@mdlewis (with a star) -- Sarah will continue to energize the base

and lend her brilliant star power to the campaign. This time conservatives will vote, not risk staying home which guarantees steamroller Marxism...and cozying up to tinpot dictators. Look what Castro did, Mugabe did; Chavez is ruining Venezuela. I never thought I'd see USA wash away this fast. Sarah is one of our few hopes.

Doesn't everybody use a teleprompter?

That has got to be the dumbest criticism of anyone.

No one gives off the cuff or completely memorized speeches, at least not long and detailed ones.

In the old days people read off of notes, today they use teleprompters so that they can keep their eyes on the audience.

very little difference, except that the later allows you to be a bit more animated.

Criticism of Obama's use of a teleprompter (which he himself mocks), is just jealousy that he gives such great speeches and inspires so many.

If the words Obama reads off of a teleprompter inspired the Lebanese to vote against Hezbollah, then I am glad he reads off of a teleprompter.
