Sarah Palin resigning as Alaska governor

The Wasilla soap opera just gets weirder as Palin complains critics are "picking apart a good point guard"

Do Republicans think that Palin is really that smart?

It seems to me that some type of crystal ball gazing has afflicted the GOP/Palin supporters. Ever supportive, they have come to the conclusion that Palin has made another master stroke of political moves and will crush the opposition with her brilliance and take a long ride into the (winning) sunset once it is all over.

Now call me skeptical, but I think Palins last few master strokes of political brilliance didn't serve her so well. What makes her backers so confident that the future will bring better fortunes? With all the Democrats gleefully calling her a quitter, how will she recover from that stigma and overcome all her previous failures as well? I hope she into mountain climbing because she has now decided to face an upward journey that she wasn't prepared for the first time around.

What I'm asking is: how is this going to be any different?

@Curly

curly: "What infamous or depending on your view, famous and frequent poster to Salon wrote the following yesterday? / "That's enough. So long. I absolutely promise you, no more posts, no more reading this web site, no comebacks in another name. What happened tonight is just not right.""

Hmmm. Let me guess. Is it somebody who doesn't understand that the term "Big Lie" has become part of popular culture, even though this same person seems categorically unable to communicate or reason without making gratuitious references to popular culture?

Reader2: Nice try, but...

Palin said she would henceforth make her mark outside politics. Of course, maybe she thinks running a PAC slush fund is nonpolitical. But I give you credit for making me consider a new hypothesis.

@FaulknerJr

If memory serves, Gingrinch quit mid-term in the midst of a blow job scandal with an intern. I doubt that he will make much noise over mid-term resignations.

Romney is the establishment favorite, but that was also true in 2008, when he was beaten by Huckabee -- a man with absolutely no establishment support, and close to no money. Mitt's routine hasn't changed. He was out the other day cliche-ing away that he doesn't care about the politics or his career, he's just going to do what's right. It's not credible, in light of his famous abortion flip-flop. Mitt is a terrible candidate. That hasn't changed.

A Kansas straw poll just came out showing Palin beating Romney and Huckabee handily among Republican stalwarts. Her biggest concern short-term is not letting this resignation thing cause stalwarts to think she's finished. Tonight, she already has a facebook announcement out promising more news soon, and I would think the sooner she makes the PAC $ announcement, the better.

Speaking only for myself, I don't give two shits about the resignation. It's a purely tactical move, to my way of thinking.

Okay, I've covered it all. Take care.

Oh, Paris

je t'aime. "Jesus on dinosaurs" is a real keeper.

Now for Rush Limbaugh

to blame this on Obama. "She was so disheartened at the way Obama is leading the country to Socialism she just couldn't take any more."

Friday, July 3, 2009 10:13 PM

I wonder when that Kansas straw poll

Reader2 mentions was taken. After today's Palin announcement, I'm sure. To do so before that remarkable development would render it obsolete.

Caloldgal sums it up for the liberals

Caloldgal: Thanks for "always communicating my thoughts exactly." This sums it up with liberals. Swallow what the Left media feeds you, don't expose yourself to other viewpoints, and say to yourself, "Oh yea...my thoughts exactly." (I mean, they are NOW, since a brilliant genius like Joan Walsh told me what to think. So what if her arguments were smacked down by O'Reilly. He's just a big bully.) This is how a guy like Obama gets elected.

Not a single one of you here trashing Palin could do her job half as well, though I suspect she could step into yours and do it better in no time. Don't like her twang? Grow up. Don't like that she believes in God? Grow up. Think she's "seven ways of stupid"? (As one of you numbnuts put it.) Go interview her and see for yourself how "stupid" she is, and debate her while you're at it. She owned Biden, and I never hear any of you calling him stupid.

And Joan, face it - and you KNOW IT - Sarah Palin is twice the woman you ever dreamed of being.

The big winners and losers created by Palin's resignation

The winners:

Mitt Romney: He is now the top dog in a Party that flocks to top dogs. Is he the second coming of Reagan?

We can bet he and Mormons thinks he is.

Bobby Jindal: The lone potentially rising Republican governor since Sanford (adultery and desertion), Palin (insanity and scandal), and Rick Perry (secession), have all taken themselves out.

Pawlenty: He looks better to the less extremist side of Conservativeland.

The losers:

The Republican Party: They lost their star speaker, and the only one in their Party who can draw crowds.

Pro-life/anti-abortion women: They lost their cultural icon.

Left wing pundits and commentators: They lost the butt of their favorite jokes.

"and in conclusion"

I would just like to say to my detractors that videos of college girls' drunken experiments with Lesbianism are a dime a dozen and don't mean anything. No reason I should mention that, but I just wanted to point it out."

She didn't ask the Chicago Charlatan how to use a teleprompter

What a great speech from the heart. Go get the bastards, Sarah.

Great speech from the heart grates on the bastards

Keep up the good fight and don't let the bastards get you down.

to get the full effect

To get the full effect of the craziness of the Palin folks go to their facebook page...damn

@mhellman

I've suspected for a while she has some kind of learning disability--or suffers from some undiagnosed illness that affects her synapses or _something._ It has never made sense that she ran through five-plus colleges before she got a journalism (eheheh) degree. Journalism is simply not that hard a major...unless you are a poor reader/writer and have trouble with reading comprehension or understanding information.

Sex or Drugs or Alaska Independent Party

Or all three...

My guess is drugs, actually.

To Readerreader

"Her biggest concern short-term is not letting this resignation thing cause stalwarts to think she's finished."

Do you not see that you are in deep denial?

It is so obvious in your statements.

Palin IS finished.

She won't be invited to Republican Party speaking engagements, won't be attending Republican governor meetings, wont be obtaining donations to pay off her legal bills, and every aspiring Republican politician will stay well clear of her.

She's resigning, I'm guessing in disgrace, and will soon find herself with very little support.

Game over.

Try to find yourself another pony.

But I doubt you will find one in the pro-life/anti-abortion movement.

Huckabee is your man now, so learn to love him.
