Mark Sanford's slow-motion crackup

Thanks for sharing, Governor. Now please take a cue from Norm Coleman, and go away

The Sanford sons

Three of the four Sanford sons are teenagers. Imagine how they're reacting to ol' Dad's professions of love for his mistress, his "soulmate," the one with the "two magnificent parts."

Every day the guy's in the news fessing up is another day of embarrassment for those boys.

Sheesh.

Sanford's emotional immaturity

Sanford is like a teenager boy, who is in trouble for knocking up his girlfriend. As he confesses, he secretly glows inwardly, because he is so proud of himself. Sanford has the emotional maturity of a fifteen-year-old, and he is totally narcissistic. Most of us grow out of this egocentrism, but Sanford didn’t. Does he think he is the first person who ever found a soul mate? Does he think he is the first person who ever waxed poetic? Does he think he has had the greatest romance since Anthony and Cleopatra? Does he think he is another King David? Does he expect his wife to stay married to him, but let him keep his soul mate and his special gift as the golden boy with a magic penis? Sanford not only needs to shut up, he needs to GROW UP.

As the governor of a state, you can't just take off for another country and not tell anyone or lie about it

what is so hard to understand about that?

That alone is grounds for Sanford to lose his job.

Gay Marriage Is To Blame

Ever since a few state governments caved in to the homosexual lobby, traditional marriage as an institution has begun crumbling faster and faster. This is just as predicted, so leave poor Sen. Ensign and Gov. Sanford alone and face the fact that all traditional marriages in America are in danger unless the Supreme Court puts a stop to this runaway train.

It's Vermont's fault

Obviously if Vermont had not voted to allow gay marriage then Sanford wouldn't have screwed up the sanctity of his marriage. Oh wait, he was already screwing it up before Vermont allowed it. Iowa? Nope he was already schtuping his Argentine before that too. I know. Prop 8 hadn't passed yet, so it was California's fault. But that means he should have stopped after election day last November. Maybe once the holy sanctity gets it's cork popped, there's no stuffing it back in the bottle. Cheers to less sanctity and pious selfrighteousness from those cheating republicans.

@mdargo

It's Jenny's fault her husband is an entitled philander? Um no. Look, she maybe an uptight, holier than thou shrew, but if that's the case, then he should have divorced her years ago, end of story. He's responsible for his actions and he also shares repsonsibility for the well being of his sons who should not hear anything about daddy's soulmate mistress thru the AP.

Guv'na gotta have it

Never thought I'd say this but there was something more dignified in President Clinton's finger wagging lie about not having had sex with and taking advantage of his youthful intern Monica Lewinsky than the Oprah-esque sharing of this narcissistic and surprisingly feminine Republican ego. Sanford should go away, he's emotionally unfit for office, us male plebians regardless of our politics couldn't get away with behavior like his at work, we'd be laughed out of the office or factory. Better to behave like Silvio Berlusconi and Bill Clinton and take advantage of the ladies, rather than cry like one in a painful to watch drawn out televised sharing of how you really feel. We don't really care, Guv'na. Don't wash your dirty laundry in public. What kind of example are you setting here for your four sons. Get someone in there that can do the job despite his personal shenanigans.

He is simply exhibiting a fetish

for talking about his sex life. In the world of adult businesses, there is a specific fetish for men who feel the need to talk, talk, and talk some more about their sex lives. Or their imaginary sex lives. Or their wanna be sex lives. He is just a lonely fetishist, whose wife or people in his life obviously do not want to listen. He is too cheap, probably, to phone up a sex phone worker so that he can talk to his heart's content to HER, so he is inflicting it on the media, who are stupid enough to listen.

Come on Mark, Sing Like a Birdie

The past 12 months have been a gift from pagan heaven for me. I became a recovering Republican in 1992, after 20 years as a GOP voter and a volunteer stint in both Reagan campaigns. A lifetime of dodging Deep South Southern Baptist relatives told me where things were headed even then and the party has been turning dumber and weirder ever since.

So please don't go away, Mark my boy. I want you to stand right up the microphone and keep on making a fool of yourself while the GOP bubbas remind the world how creepy and irresponsible they are.

It's still slightly possible that Republicans will purge themselves of the crazies and the simpletons and become a viable political entity again. I'd like to have two reasonably sane and effectual parties competing for my vote and maybe this part year will help speed up the process.

Nineteenth Nervous Breakdown

Glad to see you have come around to see that Mark is a self serving narcissist. My own reaction from the getgo was that Mark should have stayed in Argentina. He was running away from his job, his wife and yes even his four sons. Why else couldn't he wait until after Father's Day to take that trip? He is so desperate and almost hysterical that I also think he might be having a nervous breakdown.

My advice for Mark, as per the Rolling Stones:

You better stop

Look around

Here it comes, here it comes, here it comes, here it comes

Here comes your nine-teenth nervous breakdown.

King David

Sanford minimized the actions of King David too. What about killing Bathsheba's husband? Does Sanford have a single clue pointing towards reality?

Something Is Drastically Wrong Here!!!!

Although I don't agree with some of the things Joan is saying here, I definitely agree that it's time for Mark Sanford to resign.

Actually, it was time for him to resign on the day he was caught and made his "confession." I don't care about the sex stuff...but he's proven to be flaky and unstable...and who in their right minds would now trust him to be the "chief executive" of anything?

I'm actually agreeing with Joan about something????

Yikes. I better call my psychiatrist right away.
