What's so bad about it

What's so bad about Sanford? That's easy: Reason and accountability, the hallmarks of being an adult human, are not in their rightful place in Sanford's personhood. For him, the passions and appetites control his behavior.

Real men select objects of affection in light of reason and accountability, in light of duty, promise, honor and other ethical norms. They do not allow themselves to be carried away to the other hemisphere by someone he feels a connection with, no matter how strong. A real man would know that his soulmate is the mother of his four sons, no matter what his "feelings" tell him. That's reason and accountability in control; the way it should be, the way it *must be* for a real man.

Like all boys, Sanford's four sons are learning how to be men from the most concrete example they have: their father. And he's telling them that being a man consists of irrational unaccountable feeling-chasing. He's doing them a profound disservice. Sanford may wear a suit and govern a state, but he's nothing more than a child, self-indulgent, confused, and unworthy of the right to make promises of any kind.

Should he resign? If South Carolina requires the governor to be an adult emotionally, the answer is clear.

Dust1969

Dust1969, I don't know this guy you referenced, however, other media outlets do observe Salon's choice of what's considered important news.

As for you, your comments and opinions should remain where your head is. Now go figure.

Generally I don't stoop to acknowledge such dogma from the lips of the insane.

By staying Sanford increases the damage he's caused to the CHRISTIANAZI fundamentalists

AND THAT's A VERY VERY GOOD THING!

Every time he opens his mouth he dispirits, demoralizes a few more haters, fearmonger, warmonger types.

No amount of denial can make this icon of theirs meltdown into a good thing, and there is no way however irrational that someone can pin the blame on liberals, their mortal moral enemy (they say.)

I WANT HIM TO STAY UNTIL THE LAST FIGURATIVE BLOODY DAY OF HIS ADMINISTRATION. :)

I want him to continue to speak about his mid-life crisis, and his soulmate.

And most importantly I can't wait until his wife having had enough, does her own Babs Walters special to unburden her soul of the pain he's caused with his brutish words, and the pain of betrayal blah blah blah.

Living in Texas I have learned one thing about these types, they would never ever give someone on the opposite side a break. Every mistake is a weapon to be forged into a deadly sin.

The Democrats in SC, the minority party, have remained silent, and that's the best course of action.

He deserses NO pity, no good advice, no scorn or sense of pity.

For his kind are have a sociopathic hatred for those that oppose them politically, and this is the only way society can finally rid itself of any notion that any of their policies are sensible and realistic.

To oppose him openly would cause some to rally, perhaps enough to save him.

To suggest he resign is giving him good advice actually, and why aid a political hate hack?

In this case silence is golden, let them eat their own. Save the words and suggestions for the millions who will finally see the evil CHRISTIANAZI RIGHT for what it is.

As I said ALL should be removed. It does not matter what yor political party maybe or topic that they wish to exploit. If they are getting credit, money, power, etc for talking the talk then there should be consequences for failing to walk the walk.

These peoples actions and decisions affect us in ways that they do not even pretend to care about. So if thier actions have consequences for those that they represent then they should be real ones for them as well. Since they have no honor and are incapable of feeling real guilt (croc tears on TV do not count). Then take from the (publically) what they value most and thats the power and prestige that reputation that comes with the leadership position and oath of office that they clearly hold in contempt.

The point that I was making was that there should be real consequences for these people that say one thing and do another. The military in a voluntary organization. YOU do not have to serve in it. I made the connection because a military officer is bestowed with respect and authority by virtue of rank and position. So any violations that would at anytime embarrase the unit or organization are punishable and saying one is sorry after the fact will not suffice like it does so often in politics.

Just like anywhere there are moral cowards and crimminals and no amount of polish can cover that. I think that if you are willing to sum up the service of the entire military based on the actions of a few crimminals then you are just being lazy. If you have a critique then be specific and do not paint every one with the same brush in an attempt to validate your own point. MY commnets and reference were about the current Gov of South Carolina and that was what I said in my post. Who exactly are you referring to?

ITS LOVE, STUPID!

Instead of the lengthy and arduous public apology, Mark Sanford should have issued a written statement:

"I am having an affair. I have fallen in love and I am not going to apologize for that. Love happens. It is personal. It has not eroded my performance as Governor of the great State of South Carolina. Actually, my being in love makes my performance better and my life more meaningful. I am not going to resign. Anyone who hasn't sinned, is welcome to cast the first stone. No more explanations will be issued".

Look...he is going to be haunted and defiled by the left anyway. His wife is going to separate or divorce him anyway. His public career is going to be over anyway. So why be a chicken instead of being a man, and being really truthful as well?

Why not be remembered as a romantic?
