Joan; I tried the Salon "search" feature, but I couldn't find a link to the John Edwards sex tape.

Can you please assist? Thank you and have a nice day.

Seven abortion clinics shuttered yesterday in Texas

While Joan talks about one man's affairs, others are watching liberalism destroy its own ability to exist. It's so fun.

As coverd in my blog, seven abortion clinics in El Paso, Texas are shutting their doors for lack of funding. This is one great thing about the impending collapse of the economy, liberalism is expensive, and it will be the first thing to go when the economy collapses. "Gay rights", abortion, "feminism", "women's rights", all take a back seat when survival and food become the issues. It wouldn't surprise me if the current regime brings about a depression so deep that the country reverts to a religious, tribal rule.

It is distraction and a smokescreen.

Thanks for distracting us and blowing smoke, Joan.

"Go away" - you are shining the spotlight on him Joan.

How many panty diving articles about this nonsense?

How many articles about the coup in Honduras?

Aw come on, just one more press conference

At the next one, which King David, oops I mean Governor Sanford is planning to attend wearing only his underpants, he is going to present reporters with a triple-X videotape he made on his last trip to Buenos Aires. I know you guys don't want to miss that.

No article about Cynthia McKinney being "captured" by the IDF either.

They seized her boat as it was loaded with humanitarian supplies and toys and was headed towards Gaza.

Why no mention?

JOAN?

Why is panty diving more important?

Good 'ol Boys

As a long-time (almost 30 years) resident of South Kakalaki, I'm not really that surprised by the antics of my Governor... or any politician in this state for that matter. The political class here seems to be dominated by the privileged 'old family' boys who have grown up learning that the 'rules' don't apply to them. Family connections, money and influence allow them to escape most of their 'indiscretions'. Of course, they occasionally offend and need to mend fences with their peers. Fortunately, there’s a well established social mechanism for this – Southern Fundamentalist Christianity. Confess your sins, be humble, ask for forgiveness, and you’re ‘good to go’ as they say around here. As an added benefit, this process also works if you need to salvage your reputation with those ‘other’ lower class folks that inhabit the state. The redemptive power of ‘being saved’ cannot be over stated. People seem to be hard-wired here to equate bad behavior with ‘dark forces’ and to forgive any and all transgressions if the proper religious rituals are observed. This, in my opinion, is precisely what Sanford is doing.

What many of you might see as hypocritical behavior is really just the way things have always worked around here – at ALL class levels. You’d be amazed at how much fun you can have playing poker at the clubhouse, drinking at the bar, and getting lap-dances at the strip club knowing that you can erase all these ‘sins’ next Sunday by simply washing your 'soul' in the 'blood of the lamb'. For the southern white male, there is no fruit as tasty as the forbidden one – and the more forbidden it is…. well, you know the rest.

The Unkindest Cut of All

Was Sanford saying his mistress his is soulmate but he's going to try and make himself fall back in love with his wife (something to that effect). Can you imagine if this was a prominent Democratic politician? Oh that's right - there was one - Bill Clinton - and Sanford et al. crucified him for saying basically the same things - "I did not have sex with that woman". . etc. What's next - Sanford sex tapes?

If nothing else Sanford may win the egomaniac of all time award when it's all said and done -- God wants him to be governor; he's like King David - arrrrrg. If you haven't seen it already, tHere's a great post on Huffington today by Chris Kelly called "God is My Doorman: Mark Sanford for Non-CHristians" - which is both insightful and humorous.

Mistress Aubrey the Dominatrix on overdisclosure fetishes

He is simply exhibiting a fetish
for talking about his sex life. ... He is too cheap, probably, to phone up a sex phone worker so that he can talk to his heart's content to HER, so he is inflicting it on the media, who are stupid enough to listen.

I think we have a winner.

family values hypocracey

"If they can't practice what they preach, maybe these Republican hypocrites should at least stop preaching. "

Oh so true.

@ SoberInput

Welcome to the wonderful fun filled aftermath of Republicanism run amok! We will be trying to survive the mess of the last 30 years for years to come! Conservatives have all but destroyed the country.

Bad precedent

If we're going to get comfortable using this as a political tool - hunting out sexual impropriety among our legislators and then trapping them in the impossible task of explaining their actions without lying - We'll ruin 70 or 80% of our representatives.

The job of being a legislator draws massive amounts of attention, power, and elitism. It's not an appealing line of work for those typically satisfied with a nice, humble life of simply doing right. I'll bet if we could look into their private lives, we could count on two hands the number of politicians - past and present - who haven't done something seedy if not outright illegal.

So we, the citizenry, should probably decide whether we want our legislators to be good at legislating or whether we want moral leadership from our government. Being good legislators, a viable code of ethics is necessary - related to their jobs, not their private lives.

Once we let go of our easy moral outrage, we can stop being pawns in a loose-cannon political tactic that can be used against just about any representative we have.
