My last word on Bill O'Reilly

For now, at least. Outrage is the oxygen that sustains the flames of hatred, and it's time to turn down the heat

silence is golden

Let this go, Joan. We have. Its nearly forgotten. The more you feed the lion, the more he'll roar.

Joan

I just want to say again that you were very brave to do it.

Whether or not people agree with you,

there is no question that you're a professional and a class act.

Thursday, June 18, 2009 10:35 AM

Who were you talking about?

Is this something about some T.V. entertainer?

My last word too (for now).

Frank Rich wrote a piece in the NY Times on Sunday titled *The Obama Haters’ Silent Enablers* in which he takes the Fox network to task. (June 13, 2009) As outraged as I was after viewing the video of how O’Reilly attacked Joan Walsh, I pulled myself together, spit out the really horrible things I was thinking and wrote a comment. It received over 1500 reader recommendations. This is a part of it:

I already feel as if this *rage* has spiraled out of control, and I can’t blame Bill O’Reilly, he’s a fool. I have to blame Rupert Murdoch who pays him millions to deliver the message of hate that makes Murdoch so much money. Rupert Murdoch and News Corp. is a major American problem. This problem could modified by reinstituting a new Fairness Doctrine. Media must be held responsible for news content.

I watched a video of Bill O’Reilly savaging Joan Walsh of Salon.com this afternoon…[t]he subject (I guess, hard to tell) was late-term abortion. O’Reilly screamed and yelled like a mad person. Joan Walsh was set-up, in my opinion. The whole episode was appalling. I wondered what a teen would think after seeing this on television. Is it okay to scream and yell at someone you disagree with, even threaten them, and even make it excusable to have them murdered?

Some Battles are Lost Before They are Begun

For a progressive to attempt to have a reasonable discussion with Billo is about as futile as anyone with a brain trying to have a reasonable discussion with all of the Obama-birther or 9/11-inside-job or TWA800 conspiracy wackadoos. They know what they know, evidence be damned!

While I appreciate your attempt to be "fair and balanced" in going on a right wingnut talk show, did you honestly think you were going to get a balanced discussion from BILL O'REILLY?

My God, woman, have you NEVER watched his show?

O'Reilly Defined

He's a Moral Inferior.

Moral Inferiors are people who preach hate while claiming to be righteous. They will employ lies and use scare tactics in order to try to win an argument. They will ignore facts presented unless the facts are presented by other moral inferiors. Moral Inferiors are most often conservatives, members of the Republican party and staunch Christians.

Moral Inferiors are instantly recognizable if the subject of atheism comes up in conversation - they will say they don't understand how atheists can be moral people if they do not believe in god. This proves the inferior morals of these people - they admit they themselves have no inner moral compass and must rely on reminders written down or relayed each sunday.

Canuckistan

Well, I have to thank him for one thing. Some years ago, in reference to single-payer health care, he referred to Canada as "Canuckistan." Hence my proud handle.

Anyway, of all the commentary, I think Jon Stewart did the best:

"If only we could distill that dissonance into one single statement, spoken as dickishly as possible..." followed by a clip of O'Reilly's closing statement. Priceless.

this is all very delusional and weird

you say you want debate, but you don't really engage....don't discuss the issue at hand.

You just want people to tell you everything's alright and give you a hug.

You're a pundit and you put yourself in the public forum, then get upset when you're spanked by a f*ckwit like O'Reilly.

Yet your response shows that you're just as demagogic and polarized as he is. Do you seriously think these articles and the responses are doing anything to improve the quality of debate on the subject? No...it's all about you, Joan.

Delusional, weird and frankly pathetic.

Faux Outrage.

You had seen his show before and you knew exactly what to expect and you did a great job but it really was all about the dram and outrage and that was about as sincere as anything on television with the exception of Letterman's SECOND apology.

So, how soon before you take a dip in O'Reilly's stew pot again?

Betcha can't do it just once.

Television is a powerful drug.

you can't teach a pig to sing

Thanks for showing that O'Reilly is both a blowhard and a coward. I'd hate to have the bad karma O'Reilly is building up.

Juan Williams

No one should be surprised that Juan Williams joined the honking goose parade. He's been increasingly incapable of concealing his bought and paid for allegiance to the Murdoch/Ailes propaganda cabal of late, to the point where his usual phoned in "analysis" has been reduced to the same talking point crib sheet that all the rest of the right wing gang is using. Why he's been allowed to simultaneously pollute NPR, and retain his laughable title of "senior political analyst" is beyond me. Never very astute, he's become tiresomely predictable to the point of being offensive to most thinking people. Cut him off and leave him to flail around with his ideological bed mates over at Fox, I say. His opinion is nothing.

Congratulations

Congratulation on challenging the bear in his den, Joan.

Of course, as brave as that was, the problem is - he's a bear. And it's his den.

Which is about as "fair and balanced" as you can hope for from Billo The Sexually Harrasing Clown.

Love ya Joan

Thanks for attempting to inject a little intelligence in the idiotic ramblings of bill'o ... (I cringe everytime I see his hate-filled face and crazy pig eyes)

At least you can say you've tried ... keep up the wonderful work!!!
