Kos gets a pass this week

Let's forgive his tin-eared post dismissing online misogyny because he just had a baby girl -- and nothing educates men about sexism quite like having a daughter.

The letters thread is now closed.

I have a daughter too

She's about the same age as some of the Rutger's women, and, yeah, if Imus had said that about her, the reaction of the blogosphere would be the least of his worries.

And I remember having a daughter a coupla decades ago, only brand-new. I remember being sleep-deprived and distracted and amazed.

And you know what? Kos doesn't get a pass from me. I'm a man and I found his late-night post so ill-considered and outrageous that I dropped the site from my bookmarks list. His unassailable arrogance has been a developing problem for some time, and this was the final straw for this father of a daughter.

You can do what you want. Your pass is yours to give. But Kos stood up and beat his chest with the wolves. Fuck him.

Joan Walsh Checklist

Let's see...

Liberal icon given a pass -- check.

Condescending attitude toward men -- check.

Assumption that women are the only victims of sexism -- check.

OK, it's a genuine article. Press on!

Imus has daughters

Imus has daughters. What's his excuse?

As a former Imus listener, this was my very first thought when I heard of the Rutgers comment - what about those daughters he's so proud of?

Joan Walsh for Hall Monitor?

Who knew?

Patting yourself on the back, there, Joan.

Penal Envy and Social Castrations..

What about your sexism Joan, and your Catholic bashing that having the genitals of Jesus exposed, and put on display is something we should all accept at The Easter Season no less..?

The amount of Catholic bashing and also degrading Italian Americans on the internet and also major media speaks volumes for the hypocrisy and selectivity of discrimination on the left especially..

At a time when our nation is being chopped up and put on the auction block the left just as at Edwards.com this week continues it's ideological purification reducing the numbers of those who who are needed to solidify to unset these Tri-Lateralist goons who are destroying our nation..

Without the Catholic vote or a large segment of it the left and Democrats will not win in 2008..!

Yet the anti-Semitic and anti-Catholicism is rampant on the internet, and also now we see the white men are judged by a different standard then black men will ever accept to apply to themselves..

You Joan sold out your own gender, by focusing only on Don Imus but not those ghouls and criminals thugs and gangsters who are over and over proving their misogyny not just in tasteless stupid thoughtless comments but in their very deeds on a daily basis..

We lost a very real strong voice against this Bush Administration in losing Don Imus, and also may have lost even more white male votes needed in the upcoming Presidential election as they now feel even more alienated by this obvious hypocrisy of these black leaders and the feminist hysteria that actually only exploited these young girls and increased the effect of Imus's stupid comment and multiplied it's effect upon them..

I look forward to hearing what Camille Paglia says on this topic of Imus's evisceration and flogging for the sins of those little gangsters who you gave a complete absolution for their sins daily..

Just A Brief Mention

On penis size. The girls in high school and college called me Secretariat.

Joan is right again

Well done, Joan. The gloved fist. I think you are right to pursue this point. And I think so not because I have a daughter and a wife, and not just because life is much more interesting for a man when the women around him are respected and fulfilled, but because, duh, it's the right thing to do.

You're right,

not until a small cadre of overeducated theorists raised their private preoccupations to the level of an Ism, were men enlightened enough to take umbrage at their daughters being called whores.

"If anybody said that about my daughter, I'd stomp him nutsack and hang the bastrd upside down till he swoll up yeller as corn an burst!"

Progress. One dad at a time.

My wife disagree with you.

We discussed this death threat event when Karen quit and went over the various threats she received. I'm sorry but my wife concluded it's kind of crazy to take crazy people on some message board seriously when they post crazy things.

Karen locked herself in her home and quit her work because some crazy freak posted crazy stupidity on a message board. Has she never read message boards before? They are full of crazy obscenity. My wife, not me since I am 'A Man' therefore incapable of judgement on a woman's matter, thinks this woman has other issues.

She said, that perhaps someone should have tougher skin. I would never dare to presume.

Perception of men versus women

I think this is another example of how men and women view gender issues so wildly differently. In one discussion board I participate in there's been a debate recently about use of the term "bitch" in which a lot of men don't see it as being any more derogatory than "jerk" or "asshole" whereas the women in general have a differing viewpoint to say the least.

My wife has been subject to threats and stalking on a much smaller level as a result of her blog many times in the past 10 years (oddly: mostly by women) so perhaps I have a different view of it than most men do. In this day and age I would take such threats seriously regardless of the gender of the target.

Progress - one dad at a time

My dad has three daughters and graduated from the Citadel. Before women were admitted there, a cadet called him up to ask for a contribution. My dad asked if the Citadel had decided to admit women yet. The cadet proudly replied "No, sir!" My dad told him not to call back until they did. When the cadets treated the first female cadet (Shannon Faulkner?) very poorly, resulting in her leaving the school, my dad was so embarassed that he took his diploma off his office wall and put it in our basement.

But it's still ok for Kos to have an antisemitic cartoon contest, isn't it?

Well thank Lord Zog for that.

The original more offensive cartoons were taken down
