The conservative blogger wants to know why I wrote about threats to Kathy Sierra, and not her. Here's my answer.

  • It's all in the words...

I've been following this whole misogyny thing for awhile now, and REALLY appreciate Ms Walsh's candor and fairmindedness. Though it *FEELS GOOD* to think people are blasting this Malkin person, the bottom line is that when it is done by using demeaning language toward her gender, it isn't her politics or her writing or her personality that is getting demeaned. It's you and I sister!

A point that I've been pondering. It seems we DON'T HAVE the words, at least in English, that are anywhere close to demeaning a male's "parts". Compare it if you will to calling someone "Nigger", or "Cracker". The visceral response just isn't there to the cracker slur. Seems like what we're fighting here might be a whole lot bigger than some rude bloggers. But, I guess you have to start somewhere, and I want to thank Ms. Walsh for drawing that line in the sand.

  • You finally did it, Joan! Oh, wait . . .

"a lousy writer, a third-rate thinker, a talent-free provocateur, or all of the above."

Hooray! You're finally acknowledging the truth about Camille Paglia!

Oh, wait . . . you were talking about Michelle Malkin. I guess she doesn't get a pass like Paglia because she doesn't write for Salon. Never mind.

Putting quotes marks around your own words and then pretending they're someone else's words doesn't make a valid point.

  • Feel free...

to attack Joan Walsh as a lousy writer, a third-rate thinker, a talent-free provocateur, or all of the above. But it's wrong to attack her for being a woman.

  • tiberius

You guys have 21 senators up for re-election in 2008. After reviewing the 2006 results, you better stop trolling at Salon and get your ass in gear.

  • I haven't been paying alot of attention to this, but...

My eyes tend to look away when I see "Malkin". Why is she looking for you to stand up for her????

Can't Pammy from Atlas Shrugged help her out? Has Malkin no defenders at Powerline or Pajama's Media?

  • Michele Malkin has done her fair share of online abuse

Remember when she posted the phone numbers and addresses of liberal college students? They received death threats and she still wouldn't take the phone numbers or the addresses down! On top of that she is a lousy writer.

  • Bad behavior online

I used to frequent http://www.detroityes.com/home.htm chat site about Detroit because I used to live there. I finally stopped because some of the men were so abusive and just plain sick. I had people threaten to rape me and shi** on my face. One man in particular who called himself AIW succedded in frightening me enough to never chat on that site again. What did I do to deserve this treatment? I was honest and let people know that I was indeed a female. Online mysogyny is alive and well, and it makes me wonder what the hell is wrong with some men.

  • Zap!

    This statement made my day.

"But in case there's any doubt: Feel free to attack Michelle Malkin as a lousy writer, a third-rate thinker, a talent-free provocateur, or all of the above. But it's wrong to attack her for being a woman or Filipina. Is that clear enough, Michelle?"

Wit, candor, intelligence and principle, along with a sense of humor. This is a combination you just don't see reliably, not anywhere - not the blogosphere, not talk radio, not cable TV. You're my new hero, Joan Walsh.

  • Can we

    attack her for being ugly?

  • Filipina...

We CAN attack Malkin for being ANTI-woman, and ANTI-filipino, though. She has repeatedly taken positions which are clearly not in the best interests of either community. She's also herself an "anchor-baby", while she attacks Mexicans for having "anchor-babies" (kids who, because they are born in the U.S., give their parents the right to get U.S. citizenship).

What Malkin doesn't get is that the person in the mirror (the one she spews bile at) is no one but herself.

  • treat Malkin like Coulter....

Good for Joan Walsh to even waste words on the woman. She's a right wing flack who's not even particularly good at it. ((witness her filling in for 'Big Daddy' O'Reilly this week; and I thought listening to O'Reilly made my brain bleed) While not quite as attention addicted as Coulter, it's still what she lives for. The best response to her is simply to ignore her.

And she complains about hateful emails directed towards her but nary a mention of the telephoned death threats that the protesters at UC Santa Cruz received after she published their personal numbers not once, but twice.

I think, while certainly reprehensible, most bloggers would agree that hate mail comes with the territory. So, if she can't stand the heat......
