Salon Readers, It is a shame before God that the wims of the New York mayor to have the New York Giants's wide reciever, Plaxico Burress be punished for an accident that harmed only himself while George W. Bush walk away without any accountability after devastating the lives of so many worldwide. Look at Iraq, the US Economy, and all other parts of the world that this guy has effected by his decisions.
Plaxico Burress's only crime was that he did'nt register his gun in New York and he accidently harmed himself. Why would this nation allow such a double standard is beyound me. We should be outraged that the Bush Administration could intentionally destroy the kives of so many people in so many countries and the People of America allow him to just walk away into the sunset while Plaxico Burress's entire career is destroyed because of an accident that only harmed himself.
...the internet posted "Project for a new American Century" wich outlined these madmens schemes from even BEFORE they were elected you would have all known what to expect. The fact that no one mentions this treasure trove of neocon thinking shows how disconnnected you all are with the things that make your country work. Look it up. Just google the title and it there in black and white. I came across it during a study I did for a cultural studies project during my university degree and was awarded a distinction for my research, yet you yanks, whose country it is after all, just bumble around making "after the event" comments and feel morally and intellectually superior to a president who always knew what he and his cronies were up to and who conned you good and proper. What was it they were up to you ask? Stealing the world's largest oil reserves that's what. Idiots! No wonder Bush always has that half smirk on his face, he conned you all and you are still being conned.
I apologize that I haven't read all the other comments yet, but in response to Joan's article:
I had to laugh when Bush also hinted that he should get credit for "keeping America safe" because "we haven't had another attack on US soil" for the remainder of his watch.
FACT:
A few weeks into the new Clinton Presidency, the Twin Towers were attacked by Al Qaeda. Six people were killed.
We were not attacked on US soil for the next eight years.
So, Clinton accomplished exactly what Bush did...
We didn't have another terrorist attack on US soil for the remainder of his two terms.
But here's the difference:
When Clinton came into office, Sec of Defense Dick Cheney warned the new adminstration about the threats from IRAQ.
When Bush came into office, NSA Richard Clark and VP Al Gore warned Dick Cheney about the threats from AL QAEDA.
And what was the response from the Bush administration in January 2001 to the warnings about Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda from Richard Clark and Al Gore?
VP Dick Cheney pulled out the dusty old maps of Iraq from 1992 for President George W. Bush.
George W. Bush gets ZERO credit for "keeping us safe" during his time in office.
Bush's Legacy:
"George W. Bush was The Worst President Ever."
Couldn't quite stomach the word "lie," Joan? Come on! You can do it! :-)
The US used to buy up Cold War materiel on the sly and then plant it in countries we wanted an excuse to meddle with, and then point to that materiel "discovered" by the CIA and go "AHA! Communist subversion and infiltration!!" and then use that to justify covert (and/or overt) operations against those countries. Mendacious policymaking at its finest.
I well and truly expected the Bush League to fake WMDs for Hussein's regime, to "unearth" WMDs with Arab stenciling across them, for that "AHA!" moment. But I guess the ginned-up accusations regarding Hussein wouldn't allow that kind of risky political maneuvering, or maybe it wasn't necessary -- GW Bush squandered the world's goodwill in the wake of 9/11 for his war in Iraq.
What GW Bush did was very nearly as bad, and as mendacious, as the old war materiel shell game. And to hear him lamenting intelligence failures, one can only wonder what he really means by that, since all the intelligence agencies failed to do was find what wasn't there in the first place. It makes me wonder what GW Bush would've thought an intelligence "success" should've been, since he and his cronies were hell-bent on invading Iraq. The message from his administration was unambiguous to the intelligence agencies: find a reason to invade Iraq.
Mission accomplished.
The traditional media has been trumpeting his "regrets" and "apologies" but the whole tone of his interview is oddly detached, as if all this happened to someone else and he had nothing to do with it. More disturbing is his simply not making literal sense (which raises the question--is he drinking again?). Here's a notable excerpt:
Gibson eventually followed up: "Do you feel in any way responsible for what's happening?"
Bush replied: "You know, I'm the President during this period of time, but I think when the history of this period is written, people will realize a lot of the decisions that were made on Wall Street took place over a decade or so, before I arrived in President, during I arrived in President."
Joan, Justin Frank argues in Bush on the Couch that the media has avoided any talk of his alcoholism over the last eight years (except to say "he gave up drink when he found religion") because they were afraid. What's your opinion? Even Salon seems to have steered away from the subject.
... should quit talking now and wait for his trial, when he will have the same opportunity to defend himself as did old rival Saddam Hussein.
The intelligence failure was right between his two ears.
There are certain direct questions that no newman would dare ask, but I would like to know.
1. After you appeared dazed when told about 9/11, who bitch slapped you into acting like a president?
2. To what extent did your father's Iranian War experience challenge you to want to best him by showing you were a better leader?
3. Do you really believe God was guiding your decisions?
4. Your 2000 primary champaign in South Carolina used lies based on racist fears to defeat John McCann. Describe how lies designed to promote fear help unify the country?
Am just asking.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
