I apologize that I haven't read all the other comments yet, but in response to Joan's article:
I had to laugh when Bush also hinted that he should get credit for "keeping America safe" because "we haven't had another attack on US soil" for the remainder of his watch.
FACT:
A few weeks into the new Clinton Presidency, the Twin Towers were attacked by Al Qaeda. Six people were killed.
We were not attacked on US soil for the next eight years.
So, Clinton accomplished exactly what Bush did...
We didn't have another terrorist attack on US soil for the remainder of his two terms.
But here's the difference:
When Clinton came into office, Sec of Defense Dick Cheney warned the new adminstration about the threats from IRAQ.
When Bush came into office, NSA Richard Clark and VP Al Gore warned Dick Cheney about the threats from AL QAEDA.
And what was the response from the Bush administration in January 2001 to the warnings about Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda from Richard Clark and Al Gore?
VP Dick Cheney pulled out the dusty old maps of Iraq from 1992 for President George W. Bush.
George W. Bush gets ZERO credit for "keeping us safe" during his time in office.
Bush's Legacy:
"George W. Bush was The Worst President Ever."
