  • Speakfest Out

I like Sally, I really really like her butt... the profits of prophets are served by war and until the happy day arrives thou must love thine enemies to pieces.

  • It's difficult to follow gobbledegook (you really like her butt????????)

but in my humble opinion, for what it's worth, or as they say in the text messaging world, imho fwiw, Fox censored the wrong part of Sally Fields's speech. The part that drove me nuts was the ten solid seconds of her going, "ahhhhhhh, ahhhhhh, ohhhhhh, ehhhhh, oooooohh, ahhhhhhh, eeeeeee, ahhhhhhh" which truly illustrates (pay attention, kiddies) two Latin phrases, ad infinitum and ad nauseam.

    I didn't like her, I really didn't like her.

  • Yet another example of Repression

When you are the Superpower of the Earth and you believe the world revolves around you, then it is hard to look at ourselves and see us as others see us. The reality is that the country that was built on freedoms is in fact behaviorally very repressed. I suggest that this is the result of us taking ourselves much too seriously. Our repressed state manifests itself in our mores, our attitude toward sex, our laws, and our politics. Sally's censorship is simply an apparent example of one person having the power to repress another simply because they do not agree with that person's thoughts and/or how they express them. However, the most insidious examples are those that are not apparent – the ones that are thought but not expressed. Sometimes we refer to these as prejudice. As a country that espouses human rights to others, we should acknowledge our prejudices and recognize are hypocrisy.

  • God and War

I'm with Sally (initial stammering incoherence notwthstanding) -- war should be damned by God and she was right to call it so.

  • Sex and violence are fine for Fox, but not naughty words

Fox has given us more T&A and gruesome violence than any other broadcast network, but perish the thought that the term "goddamn wars" should emanate from one of their shows.

    Hypocrites and cowards: typical rightwingers.

  • Curse of the Flying Nun

I thought Fox censored the "goddam" because, like with Janet Jackson's nipplegate, most people wouldn't want to hear the Flying Nun cuss on prime time, as most, except for sexually frustrated teenaged boys and bachelors, couldn't give a hoot about Janet Jackson's fake tit especially when they're sitting around the tube with their kids. The histrionics expressed here about gutless right wing cowards etc. would be hilarious if it wasn't so pathetic. Can't America have even one mainstream opposition media outlet with a different view of reality than your own? Sally Field's "goddam" must be aired for Chrissakes. Who cares, really?

  • @ Silenced

WHAT are you talking about? Isn't this is a thread about Murdoch's Fox News and Sally Field's acceptance speech? If you are enjoying some Mary Jane, good for you, ( I am envious at this moment )... but I don't see what your crusade for medical marijuana or your crusade against Salon has to do with it.

Your screen name certainly is relevant in this situation.

  • Sally Field can't save anyone from a prion infection

THis publication has such a deliberately politically targeted editorial policy -- Joan has no right to complain about the editorial policy of any other media organization.

Do you know what they just discovered in France? Marijuana might cure mad cow disease. And Creuzfeld-Jacob disease too. Any disease caused by prions -- it looks like pot might be the cure.

You see -- that's knowledge. That's actually quite vauable knowledge. It's amazing beyond belief knowledge, because up until now, medical science has not found any effective treatments fr prion infection.

Are you ever going to find out about this through an article in Salon?

Hell no, because Joan's policy is that public ignorance is preferable to public knowledge when it comes to marijuana.

So ignorance is a conscious policy here. Ignorance is a good thing at Salon.

Can Sally Field cure anyone from a prion infection?

People are defending her as if she actually could.

  • One good thing

At least the hosts didn't send in the Jackboots to wrestle her to the ground and Taser her in the kidneys while applying joint locks to her wrists and elbows and putting a knee on her head and a boot on her neck and then beating the hell out of her like the campus cops at Miami did with a Kerry protester over the weekend.

At least they didn't do that.

    Thank God for small favors.

  • Faux

This is a perfect example of why I don't watch the Faux Network. They simply cannot be trusted to show and tell the truth!

  • Garry, and Silenced

    Garry:

How old was the demonstrator? Did he or she resist? I'm guessing he or she said something scary like, "Officer, what about the First Amendment," which was enough provocation to get the hell beaten out of them. Can't let the rabble speak up, you know.

    Silenced:

Must you bring medical marijuana into every goddamn discussion, no matter the subject?

  • Garry

You overstate what the goddam cops did to that goddam kid. It was bad, but not "beating the hell out of" bad.

    Goddamit.

  • @Quiet Type

"Uh, Funme? You DO realize the viewers never even heard her superior words, don't you? Pretty wise method, huh."

Uh, Quiet Type? You DO realize millions of people around the world heard her superior words, don't you? And millions more are going to now hear them via YouTube? Millions who wouldn't have cared but will be curious now because she got cut off? Pretty wise method, huh?

Oh, I forgot. USA TV VIEWERS=THE SUM CONTENT OF THE UNIVERSE

  • @anonymous

"Uh, Quiet Type? You DO realize millions of people around the world heard her superior words, don't you? And millions more are going to now hear them via YouTube? Millions who wouldn't have cared but will be curious now because she got cut off? Pretty wise method, huh?

Oh, I forgot. USA TV VIEWERS=THE SUM CONTENT OF THE UNIVERSE"

I'm so excited. Sally Field has ended the war.

  • Can future FOX telecasts of Awards Shows be limited?

I think the Fox channel's audacity in so presumptuously deciding for the nation what we are allowed to see or hear should be remembered when it comes to coverage of future award shows. What is the procedure for having a network so extensively cover the Emmy Awards event that it becomes the only channel on which to watch it? Why was Fox able to dominate and thus censor so humiliatingly?
