I haven't seen Hardball yet today (we usually watch it later in the evening), but John Cole at Balloon Juice has some YouTube footage of this evening's show. Apparently this organization is using footage from the 9/11 attacks in their advertisements, too, and Barnicle, bless his heart, asked Ari "How many Iraqis were on that plane?"

I'm not sure if Ari knows the answer is zero.

Anyway, it's always a happy thing to see you on my TeeVee, Joan.

  • Hardball and Mike

Joan I watched. Continetti and the Weakly BelowStandard rationalisations. OK. Emmet is a basket case so I ignored him. But I asked myself : why is Barnicle being Tweety? He put out the Obama stuff as being an attack on Clinton. And you dealt with it. But suppose I took another position: Mike, you were caught plagiarising. So why shouldn't I start every conversation with you asking you to defend your plagiarisation just as Clinton is supposed to respond to every attack on her with a reference to Bill. Now you may not want to do that. And my guess you won't get on Hardball if you do. But why should you treat Barnicle , a certified plagiarist, as someone who can raise questions about Clinto without having to answer every time whether he has got over his ailment.

  • The same guy that told us shortly after 9-11,"We better start watching what we say."

What else should we expect? I saw the same interview and the same blank stupid look pass across his face like a cloud. He doesn't care about our rights and he doesn't care about our troops in as much that he'll use them as cannon fodder to make sure that the last gasp of the neo-con agenda, dies choking on it's own amoral goals. Ari Fleischer is ridiculous.

  • joan, you are a roll these past few days!

    i love it!

  • Great Article

Good I got you to read this. You and your ilk make me physically ill. I have spent my life fighting for this country and I am invested in this war with my soul.

I trained under Clinton for six months to kill and capture Osama Bin Laden and at the last minute he shot missiles. I crossed into Iraq to capture combatants that confessed to loading trucks full of chemical weapons to Syria the day of the invasion. I spent my youth loosing friends and brothers so that you can falsify statements and destroy the fourth estates credibility.

Joan you are a member of the worst generation, and the greatest generation that raised you in privilege should be ashamed. Go to hell and you'll see the same bastards that I saw blow up a bus full of little girls. While your there say hi to the Saddam and the rest of the dirty Arabs that I plan on spending my adult life killing. Thanks for lying to the people and loosing the war. Go to Hell.

  • Another liberal ambush

    (It's a joke.)

  • This is truly bad

And Hardball spent all that time teasing around with Drudge's fabricated slap of Hillary by Michelle. That was disgusting--that Drudge dredged that up in a week and that the media gave it any play.

Prolonging our military involvement in the mess we started but can never fix by remaining there in Iraq is tragic.

Fleischer's failure to know that vet's name is obscene.

  • Gutsy move, "Anonymous"

At least Joan signs her work.

  • They're not supposed to have names

    Dear Joan,

The troops aren't supposed to have names or lives or families. They're not real people. They don't really die or get their legs blown off. Why should Ari Fleischer be expected to know John Kreisel's name? To Fleischer and company, they're like those little green plastic soldiers he played with as a child. I bet Ari didn't make up names for them, they were too small and insignificant.

  • Anonymous and Troops

Yes, Anonymous. Why don't you come out? You certainly have some "credentials" based on what you claim in your letter. Why not tell us your real name?

I have always thought that the use of the word "troops" was a way to not acknowledge that real persons were being killed and maimed and were committing suicide and attempting to commit suicide. It's sickening.

  • It's "losing"

The people who "loosed" the war were Bush and the neocons.

Were you expecting a serious reply? Fight fire with fire and stupid with stupid.

  • An anniversary

I am suprised that neither you nor any of Salon's other columnists have noticed that this is the anniversary of the executions of anarchists Sacco and Vanzetti, who were executed for the crime of being Italian and immigrants at a time when Italian immigrants were all thought of as terrorists.

Wikipedia has a good article. Suffice it to say, if you replace "italian" with "muslim", you get a painful reminder that today's climate of hate and fear is nothing new in this country.

Or, to put it another way, (quote from Wikipedia),

"The judge in the case, Webster Thayer, stated to the jury "This man, (Vanzetti) although he may not have actually committed the crime attributed to him, is nevertheless culpable, because he is the enemy of our existing institutions."

  • Dear Anonymous

First of all, what's the deal with conservatives and the word "ilk" - I notice it in alot of letters to the editor here in Dallas from conservatives being used like some sort of insult (did Karl Rove write some sort of middle aged white guy rap dictionary?) Just curious.

Secondly, Arabs are not in Iraq which is precisely one of many reasons why the "war" has been a failure (I put war in quotes because (1) the President declared "Mission Accomplished" almost 5 years ago and since no war was ever declared I'm not sure what you are referring to and (2) if your intent is to go after those who attacked us on 9/11 then again, you're in the wrong country. Ironically it's those against the war who want to get the soldiers out of Iraq and those like Ari Fleischer (and you) who want to see them die to try and justify the biggest miliary blunder in the history of our country. It makes me ill to think of our young men and women dying in the desert heat while our President and the Iraqi cabinet vacation -- so in that regard you and your "ilk" make me sick!
