  • @Dee Dee

I don't agree much with Pags

But Pags is an audacious and hilarious pistol

The livid liberal amount of hate mail she receives

    ALL the time..

Is like a herd of single minded bulls in a china shop

Bustin' all the glass and Venician crystal...

  • Gratitude

Joan, I am grateful for your clarity and consistent wisdom. Many thanks for your willingness to post on a regular basis.

  • Dee Dee

I am frequently a self-parody. One shouldn't take me too seriously.

  • Box Pilot

    "Grateful

I'm grateful for obama for being pro abortion if we are ever going to be able to keep the violence down in this country, abortion is the way!!! Abortions are predominately performed on blacks and everyone is aware of the fact that blacks are 12% of the population but commit 75% of the crimes in this country. But we can not dare stat the facts or we are Racist!!! I'm not a Racist!!! I'M JUST HONEST!!!! AND NOT AFRAID TO STATE THE FACTS!!!!!!!

    -- Box Pilot"

Box Pilot, I was going to let your offensive remark about blacks go by because it is thanksgiving;I need to point out however, that racists and ignorant nincompoops also quote statistics as facts to justify their own pathetic existence. I know it is easy to generalize about race without knowing the difference between marginal rate and total figure, but it does not prevent the white supremacists from quoting it as fact to serve their own depraved purpose.

Yes, you are not afraid to state your so-called "FACTS" because you cowardly use the anonymity of the computer to spew this garbage. Happy thanksgiving.

  • Day of Demonstrating our Thanks

Too small to make our own way,

    we owe thanks

    to our Protectors.

    City fathers, founding fathers,

heads of state, heads of tables

slice the flesh, wield the knife.

    Thanks we owe

for the instincts of our New Leader

to reach across and pull near

those of his own kind -

    tough, smart warriors

    of a lying, criminal mind.

    For these toxic strangers

    we never chose,

too timid to take our leave

    we reach across tables

    refill the glasses

    to numb the minds

    consume dead flesh

    And Give Thanks.

  • About casting the first stone .......

I am grateful for Obama too

    and I trust him

and I pray for him each morning just as I contributed to his campaign every month. May his wisdom by couched in common sense, may his physical health and energy be sustained, may he grow in grace, and may any who would harm him in any way fall on their own sword. Then I pray for myself that I will not be tempted to second guess him, that I will trust in his motives in the face of what ever I perceive as an error that comes to pass, that I will listen to my heart instead of an, ever ready to pounce, news media that finds more followers in being critical than in giving the benefit of a doubt.

    Namaste

  • NewYorkNY is a pathetic loser and closet jihadi!

What a wanker to suggest that "The fact is that the attacks were caused by Indian security services cracking down on Muslims in their country".

You stupid jihadi, you'll say anything to cover your lover Al-Zawahiri's and your fathers in the Lashkar's asses! I can only hope that next time such a thing happens, your family in Pakistan and your loved ones are at the receiving end of that carnage. Heck, I'll even crack open a boltle of chablis when that happens. Do remember to post the good news here.

    cheers for now!

  • Obama will invade with an army of your straw men

Should Obama make the error of invading Pakistan (launching air strikes counts as an invasions and does any insertion of military personnel however small or brief) just for the purpose of catching Bin Laden, it will destabilize their already fragile government.

    ---NewYork NY

The idea that Barack Obama would unilaterally invade Pakistan is made up almost whole cloth. He's said we need to focus on breaking up Al-Qaeda and rooting out terrorist cells in Aghanistan. I know he said something to that effect in a debate -once - but he has since clarified that statement.

  • It goes both ways, Joan

Us readers (and --some more, some less, than others) post-ers are immensely grateful to and for you, Joan, and Salon. Can't TELL you how much so.

Many a time you, other staffers, and sundry (and I do mean sundry?! ;-) readers have just plain helped me keep going.

I REFUSE to make a joke just now about a turkey.

Hope I haven't disappointed too many avid readers and that all of you are having as "happy" a ?!"Thanksgiving"!? Day as you can!!!!

    "love and greetings to all",

    salonmarte

  • Huh?

    Somebody's a closet jihadi!?!

    Behind door number 1?

    Is it door number 3?

    Ask Monty Hall

Cos it's a flamin' mystery to me...

  • What a Strange Post, Joan

I am certain that your original post could not have been more sappy than this hiney-kisser to Obama. Mumbai is not a test of America's latest Empty Suit, because we still only have one president at a time. Mumbai is probably somehow tied to the folly in Kashmir, and I seriously doubt that it's really much of a 'test' for the leadership of a man whose eyes didn't radiate much in the way of contented confidence after he saw the classified intelligence and national security reports that he made his specious campaign promises in ignorance of. The real test will come, if and when he finally figures out that we can't be all things to all people and nations, and reins in our bloated and overburdened foriegn policy machine to the point that Monroe would smile.

He's not got it in him, and Mumbai is probably a precursor to something convenient, and on American soil. Thus, I am cheered only by the fact that I live in a state with enlightened gun laws--because Barack Obama will not be there to protect me and mine frompeople bent on harming Americans since Clinton started his cruise missle diplomacy.

  • So much to worry about, even more to rejoice over

Like many Americans who heard about the attacks in Mumbai, I was completely freaked out when I heard about them this morning. I know that Americans have a long road ahead of us in regaining support around the world after eight years of failed Republican policies headed by George Bush.

The good news is that our country will soon be in the capable hands of President-Elect Barack Obama. He's proved many times over since his win that he not only deserves to be our next leader, but that he is the best man for the job.

I will pray for the victims of the attacks in Mumbai and for our own country. I know this could be a taste of things to come; I'm hopeful that it's the end of things that were.
