I'm grateful for Barack Obama

My sappy Thanksgiving post got more serious as I watched the Mumbai tragedy unfold.

The letters thread is now closed.

@klytus again (!)

Lamb loin & rice sounds wonderful. I'm thankful for my family traditions, but can't help but wish the menu could change even a trifle (would say truffle, but I don't like those shroomy things, well, except upon my experimental stage when the purpose wasn't culinary wonder). Restless looks...I'll leave that up to individual interpretation.

Do have to add, though: what you said about being Muslim--well said.

In all frank honesty

If there are forth with

In the future

More American neo-connings

Forward deployed

Draconian acts of desperation

Will doubtless be expressed

By the fundametally deranged and annoyed

What can I say

I live here too

If a human price had to be paid

It could be exacted from my ass too

You must be independently wealthy, have large amounts of gold or precious gems with the ability to leave this country if you are so ardently hoping that President-elect Obama falls flat on his face, meaning that he's not able to bring everyone together to repair the problems in this country. Fuck everyone else, hurrah for your little, shit-ass grudge. Go take a jump into the East River, will ya?

For all of the others here, I hope you have a wonderful day.

@Graz65 Boo-Hoo!

Shit-ass? Fuck me? You know, I have to laugh that off because I know you wouldn't have the stones to say that to my face. Cyber thugs are so amusing. Why is it that you are so personally attached to me that you are this angry? Are you a personal friend or close relative of Obama? Or are you a stan too? Would be happy or laugh if I got blown up in the subway since I am such a "shit ass?" Get your panties out of a knot, kid.

You sound like Republicans sound when someone criticizes Bush, Palin, or McCain, you know that? You curse, you make ad hominem attacks, you clutch your pearls when you hear anyone say anything that is not worshipful praise about "our president-elect." Shouldn't we liberals try to elevate the discourse, or do we want to be ignorant boors with a left bent?

Why are you mad that I have money? Does that somehow impact your life? Do you think that I have something that should belong to you? Why is that any of your business? Is it because I do not think that Obama is the messiah who can walk on water and will bring everyone together, as you say. Look, the man only got about 6% more than McCain, so the odds that he will bring everyone together are pretty slim. Ours is an extremely polarized nation and no amount of vapid, platitude riddled speeches will change that. Now, I can understand people casting a vote for Obama-Biden not so much as a vote in favor of them, but as a rejection of McCain-Palin. I would laugh if Obama fell on his face. The man is an arrogant snake. In the end, beyond a few laughs, Obama's professional humiliatrion does not personally impact me whether he does or not. I can always turn off the news, ignore what is going on in the world, and do my own thing. I do not have to curse and throw a tantrum about him.

I hope you have a happy and safe holiday, despite your personal attacks.

I don't agree with the way Graz65 expressed it, but I certainly agree with his sentiments. Obama's not the Messiah and we definitely need to see what he actually accomplishes before declaring him a great, or even good president. It's certainly your right to dislike him. However, to hope he falls on his face is pretty harsh - not because of the consequences to Obama, but because his failures will likely have terrible consequences for this country and the American people.

Graz65's sentiments were that I have a "shit-ass grudge" and that I should "jump in the East River." His reasons for this is that Obama is going to lead us together and my hopes that he fails makes me a bitter, grudge bearing bitch who deserves to drown. If you feel that way, then what can I say?

As for the impact his success or failure will have on America, I always say that the country deserves what it gets. I am fortunate enough that I could avoid the discomfort of many things if my rights as a gay woman were further contracted or the economy continued to fail. I am not wishing ill will on my fellow Americans because I hate them. I just think the rabid Obama supporters, who curse anyone who does not go along with them, need to be taken down a few pegs. On this site, the way some people talk to those who do not agree with them makes this place seem like a liberal Palin rally.

Come on, tell me you never laughed at George Bush's stupidity or chuckled to yourself when he made an ass of himself, thus shaming those right-wingers who act as if he is a divinely inspired patriot. As the occupation of Iraq went south, there were gleeful articles about it. The glee was not over lives being lost or an entire region being engulfed in flames and rancor. It was because the failure of Bush made our political adversaries, who lionize him and his bloodthirstiness, look like idiots. Obama groupies are my political adversaries, though I am sure we are on the same side of all or most issues. They don't like me, therefore we do not get along. Some Obama supporters are offended when I say that I do not like him. His vapid and vacuous speeches were nothing more than platitudes about change and hope. I do not know what people see in him. I cannot understand what is so inspiring about him. Many Obama supporters find my distaste for him offensive. I never let my preference for a politician lead me to think that that person is an infallible saint who is beyond reproach. I certainly don't curse at people who do not like the same person I like.

Personal attacks and temper tantrums are unbecoming. Some of them are extremely offensive. I have had racist and homophobic slurs hurled at me. The other day someone suggested that I need Xanax which is really offensive to me because I am a person living with bipolar disorder. In the end, people should not get into cyber beefing because this is not their private space. At the end of the day, though, I would love to see anyone of these clowns say any of that shady shit to my face. It would get real grimy, real fast. It is easy to be a thug on the internet.
