I'm grateful for Barack Obama

My sappy Thanksgiving post got more serious as I watched the Mumbai tragedy unfold.

The letters thread is now closed.

are you obamaniac

By now everyone is aware that the media elected obama. They were able to dupe millions of simple-minded Americans, especially the young, to vote for him.

Here is the truth. Obama is a marxist who is in league with the Saudis who have bankrolled him and with satan whom he worships and has sold his soul to.

SAMANTHA POWER!!! SAMANTHA POWER!!!

SAMANTHA POWER!!! She's back! Hooray!

Another thing for which I am thankful...

Gold-standard trollage of this calibre:

Obama is a marxist who is in league with the Saudis who have bankrolled him and with satan whom he worships and has sold his soul to.
  • rockybalboa: you make me wish I was a both a Marxist and a Saudi national.

    Just so that I could personally steal all your money and worldly possessions with one hand while giving them to the restored Caliphate with the other.

  • rockybalboa: you make me wish I believed in God.

    Just so that I could give both of you the finger by worshipping Satan.

  • rockybalboa: you make me wish I was gay.

    Just so I could fuck another man up the ass, and think of you the whole time.

    (Maybe I can persaude my GF to wear that Mitt Romney mask we just bought... Rrraawr!)

@Raise Up

I'm grateful for you and your no-troll tolerance factor. Blessings unto you and yours, friend.

@BlissBodil

You were asking that question in jest, right? I dont want to have to detonate word bombs on you if you were only being facetious :).

@genbartow

I'm not sure if 7 years of no attacks on American soil is due to, or in spite of, our current foriegn policy. I am intrigued by this "solid foothold" of which you speak...where is it, exactly? The Iraqis want us out of their country in the not-too-distant future, and Afghanistan is many things, but a "solid foothold" it is not. As it happens, I dont share your view that the Iranians seek "expansionism". They perhaps want to be a player in the region, and may well want to be a nuclear power, but I do not think they're seeking to be the second coming of the Soviet Union or anything. Call me naive.

In any case, your view of the past 7 years is a bit more blissful than mine.

@Hey Faulk

I've heard some troubling, whispered talk

Apparently Iran, it seems, does indeed, have plans to expand

Obama just pulled Samantha Power back into his team

I hoped he would, and suspected he would when the time was right. Today, the time is right.

Power famously called Hillary Clinton a "monster" and was swiftly but appropriately booted (forced to resign) from the Obama campaign.

Now she'll be an important part of the department Hillary Clinton will be leading.

Glad to have Power back! She's exactly the kind of person Obama needs on his team -- principled and deeply knowledgeable.

@Hutman

This is good news

Obama needs fresh minds

And with those fresh minds

Fresh views...

The Defeat of Terrorism

I think the 'War on Terror' should be remonikered to: The Defeat of Terrorism.

From Joan Walsh

I'm glad Samantha Power's back, she's a great mind. It's awfully gracious of that monster Hillary Clinton to go along with it, too!

Here's to

magnanimous monsters!

More Examples of the Best and Brightest Being the Best and Brightest

Yes, Joan - campaign dynamics often escalate to the sharpest contrasts, even when the subtle contrasts truly have more shared interests in common.

I also think the 'War on Terror' should be remade altogether - into less of a "War," and more of a defeat of terrorism, relying more on technological and enlightened power.

I have seen a number of inspiring stories from the UK about enlightened Muslim leaders who have helped reform extremist militants. And now those men who are reformed are working to help other vulnerable young and disaffected youth see the light.

@Klytus

Well, if they're taking over Disneyland, they'd be doing us a favor!

Power and Clinton

As someone who has long admired Samantha Power, and who has, perhaps belatedly, come to admire Hillary Clinton, I am happy to see that the overheated rhetoric of the primary campaign was not seen as sufficient justification for prohibiting someone of Power's talent and intellect from benefitting State. Man, ALL the big dawgs are coming to DC! I'm grateful to be consulting to the gov't right now :).
