I respect marshmellow way to much to sculpt a representation of a kiddy diddler out of it.
first off, Joan, Mumbai, Obama, Thanksgiving, eck, the column was a weird stretch but I'll go with you were enjoying a little wine with family and friends on the holiday and let yourself go a bit.
As for Obama and his admin, I'll admit I want the Clintons devoid of power, as far away from centers of power as possible, to me they, well Bill more than Hil, leave a trail of slime where ever they have passed. Regardless, I am not Obama and it is not my call. He's going the Lincoln route with the 'Team of Rivals' idea though I think it is more the 'keep your friends close and your enemies closer' approach.
In the end though, as he as recently explained to his critics, the agent of change is Obama. The onus and expectation his on him to approach governing differently than before. However, Washington is a complex, incestuous, slime laden, Byzantium place and one needs people who under the ins and outs of it to get things done.
Certainly Obama, like Lincoln, will be a great listener to those he has surrounded himself with but he has said that policy will be coming from top down not bottom up. He'll take the advice on say the economy and using that package a response. On that individual topic I haven't been overwhelmed by the government's (and Obama's agreement with and support of) response. But his recent overtures, to opening consumer and commercial lines of credit are better though not the best solution. In reality, China, of all places, is taking the best approach to saving Capitalism, an almost WPA plan to invest $600B in infrastructure, railroads, airports and so on. Put the people to work. Saving Goldman Sachs isn't going to put food on the table or pay the bills. But I digress...
...so like many, I am not thrilled with may of Obama's choices but if he governs as he says he will, but issuing challenges for change and then tasking those he has selected to bring about that change then I think we'll be ok. I can think of nothing worse than the opposite, where he has replaced standard Republican power elites with Democrat power elites and makes no effort to bring about any change.
But this isn't a network tv series, we must have a bit of patience to see how it will turn out.
The Arms Industry Political Action Committee has kindly provided us with another reason to invade, or, ah, INCUR into Pakistan. They waited until after the election because they didn't trust McCain to be the man to do that job for them. They trust Obama. Should you?
I read a number of blogs. I've read responses that are sometimes more "interesting" than the articles. Not only is there little humor, there is meanness that progressives like to attribute to reactionary conservatives and Republicans.
Hypercritical misinterpretations and nastiness seem to be the hallmark of too many. Factually responsive, thoughtful and polite (a dirty-word today) letters are far outweighed by the opposite.
Because names and faces are not known, negative, fearful ugliness is spewed onto the screen. For shame! Such people "in control" would be as horrid as the current power holders.
Decked out in your jazzy G.I. jammies
I'll bet an indian buffalo nickel
That you're all rarin' for some random invadin'
So bring on the next bad 'n bitter sour pickle
..the possibility for some kind of damage control.
Obama's not the Messiah. He's not even a Progressive (or if he is, he won't be able to preside as one).
He's the guy we hired to clean up the wreckage left by the frat party. After reviewing his contract (in four years), we can start thinking about promoting him to architect.
We should give the man some room to work. At minimum, we should stay out of his way. Better yet, we could harken to the words of our Constitutional forebears and put our own shoulders to the wheel, as well.
@ Box Pilot:
I'm grateful for obama for being pro abortion if we are ever going to be able to keep the violence down in this country, abortion is the way!!! Abortions are predominately performed on blacks and everyone is aware of the fact that blacks are 12% of the population but commit 75% of the crimes in this country. But we can not dare stat the facts or we are Racist!!! I'm not a Racist!!! I'M JUST HONEST!!!! AND NOT AFRAID TO STATE THE FACTS!!!!!!!
Aw, how cute. You're trying to give us your own 'Modest Proposal', aren't you? How unfortunate that you are no Jonathan Swift. In point of fact you're a craven, pathetically small-minded coward.
Don't want an abortion? Don't get one. Don't want your church organist to get an abortion? Don't knock her up in the first place. Don't want all those dirty, poor, awful, violent dark-skinned people to get abortions? Stop denying them access to contraception.
Or... you could show some real courage and actually talk to one of those people you're so afraid of.
@genbartow:
Look what it got us ???It only got us 7 years of no attacks on American soil
and a solid foothold in the Middle East to fight Iranian
expansionism, terror export nuclear attack ambitions.
You would be better served to keep your mouth shut and pray that Obama's next 7 years will be as peaceful for
Americans.
You talk like some snuff-dippin', NASCAR-watchin', Dubya-luvvin' badass... but really you're just another coward getting his body cheese all over Our Flag.
Here's the kernel, the core sentiment, of your post: "keep your mouth shut and pray".
Bad news, gb: you just failed the patriotism test. Please remit your citizenship to the proper authorities (or any authority figure who gives you morning wood). A true Son or Daughter of Liberty doesn't say "keep your mouth shut and pray"; a boot-licking, RWA despot-felcher does.
So yeah: big plate of FAIL for you, geeb.
I see two possible remedies for your situation:
1. Enlist. Stuff your pasty blivet ass into some camo. Get thee to Iee-rrAack and hold that fucking line against "Iranian expansionism".
Or...
2. You know who's all hopped up on "keep your mouth shut and pray"? That's right, geeb: Iee-rrAnn. They loves them some a that shit over there.
Go on, man. Un-closet thyself.
