I'm grateful for Barack Obama

My sappy Thanksgiving post got more serious as I watched the Mumbai tragedy unfold.

The letters thread is now closed.

RE: Taliesan

I mean, remember Chocolate Jesus? A bunch of people who believe that they eat Jesus every Sunday got miffed at Jesus being represented by a food-stuff.

Ah, Christians and White people...The bastions of Liberal comedy...Well at least you can poke fun at 3 quarters of Obama...

Chocolate Jesus, how about "Marshmallow Mohammed"...Let's see a "brave" leftie artist come up with that shit...Ya right...

I am also grateful for Obama

And my beautiful family, the beautiful dinner we ate, and as my husband said, Durkee Fried Onions.

May all your choices bring happiness.

My dear Klytus,

You can demonstrate a non sequitur to a monkey

but you cannot make the monkey understand it.

@hawk

Knock on wood!

I gotta say

That one's good.

Thursday, November 27, 2008 04:57 PM

I am grateful too

I am grateful that the Mumbai attacks occurred after de USA election, because otherwise he would have lost to McCain.

Thursday, November 27, 2008 05:07 PM

Look what it got us ???

It only got us 7 years of no attacks on American soil

and a solid foothold in the Middle East to fight Iranian

expansionism, terror export nuclear attack ambitions.

You would be better served to keep your mouth shut and pray that Obama's next 7 years will be as peaceful for Americans.

I'm grateful for havin' no wife and kids

And that I have my own free time to be just blissfully alone..

My first thought...

...was how I was reminded about the folks declaring their gratitude that Geo. W. Bush was president in the troubled times right after 9/11. We all know how that turned out.

Let's see what Obama does before we start the personality cult, shall we?

And let's not succumb to the temptation of immediately making this a good vs. evil test. What has happened in Mumbai is terrible and wrong. But eradicating world terrorism will require a response that is more sophisticated than the mindless application of force. It will require the eradicating terrible injustices across the world, especially in a complex place like India, where globalization has treated some very very well, while simultaneously destroying the lives of so many others.

Grateful To All Who Voted For Barack Obama - Relying On His Judgement

We did ourselves proud by not being fooled again and voting for the most outstanding candidate we had a chance to vote for since JFK. Barack Obama has shown exceptional judgement from the start so I am not concerned with his decision to keep Mr. Gates. Besides, if Mr. Gates does no work out he can be replaced.

hummm? I'm not one to get into this " gratitude" bullshit and think the whole meaning of the holidays is a crock of shit, but ...

I guess I can be grateful for obama , and I've got nothing against hillary really . and yeah, grateful for joan walsh, a femnist writer whom tells the news like it is, unlike the " fair and balanced" FOX news folks, most commercial others too.

I mean we could have had the Concerned Women for America president wendy williams' dream come true if " Maverick-reformer" Mc Jackass and especially " Mrs. Governor Sarah MooseCherry ; were both elected! a dream in which both wendy williams, pat robertson, and james dobson would be the true elected officials in charge!

maybe now those " free grants" from the small business administration would be more available after jan 20, 2009? as right now I could use some of that ebeneezer scrooge " holiday spirit" from all of P.T. Barnum's "suckers[ shoppers] born every minute " coming in!

I'm grateful that the election is over

And that I have friends in the real world who stayed sane enough that I could rationally discuss the election with them without wondering if the entire world had gone crazy. And that we could enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner and talk about the origins of Nascar and the Dalai Lama and ethnic moonshine and travel in Guatemala, and even politics, but not devolve into insults or disrespect.

A WINNER

Joan makes my day . Interesting story .

Friday, November 28, 2008 12:23 AM

Why?

What has a tragedy in India got to do with US?

Friday, November 28, 2008 12:29 AM

hate to say it, but NY-NY has a valid point about obama not nessesarily being the " mesiah" many think he is.

I personally agreed with all the old guard feminist women and wanted hillary , as I thought she'd be the better choice for women in general; both biological women and transsexual women like myself. she had the more experience, and while I liked some things about obama back before the end of democrats' primary; such as his wanting to repeal the partial birth abortion act and what he mentioned about getting the govt. out of the marriage business/leaving it to the churches with " civil unions for all."

when it came to who got the most contributions , they both came out the same, with one exception. hillary got one from emily's list- a feminist organization dedicated to helping ALL WOMEN [ straight, lesbian, bi,transsexual]! but hillary did not get the nomination, obama did. mostly because, speak of the rich, all the white yuppie, 'wall street' males, other males; all fearing "castration if hillary gets in."

that and how the male run news media, along with a few anti-feminist, traditionally " high-femme" women; did their best to belittle hillary with sexist comments about her dress styles, etc. again, that may have been because those news-men feared that it would be the end of their dominated by powerful males world.

but hillary did not get in, and so, all the while I was reading stuff in feminist organization's websites about how John Mc Cain the fucking " maverick"; was really John Mc Liar! a conservative, fundamentalist whom voted 99% against women in general throughout his career. I had considered cynthia mc kinney for a while, but knowning that this country runs on a two party stystem for tyhe most part; I began to fully back obama.

John Mc Sneak the liar finally showed his true self at the republican convention when he chose to be his running mate, that anti-woman asshole for jesus named sarah palin! which in turn helped him get more women voters whom were anti-LGBT, pro-life; as well as many of the more angry to the point of stupidity hillary supporters!

he also had his women whom feared that obama's tax plan would tax the wealthy and help those strugging to survive and remain hopeful in a country where opportunity seemed to " shit in their faces" every time! those like me on SSDI/SSI for whom working a retail shit job for shit wages does not offer any hope of becoming gainfully-employed long term; never mind ever getting ahead in life!

again, I liked hillary's plan to fund high-speed internet even in the most rural areas. something that would have created much " ableism" for those like myself whom were never great at marching to the beat of somebody else's drum, or time-clock. this plan, of course being something that, suddenly, obama decided to say was his idea as well.

as for hillary saying she'd support ONLY " civil unions but not full LGBT marriage"? well I sensed that she was just saying this now and , once in office; with a little push from us lesbians; she would have changed her mind right quick-like!

so while I like obama and his positions on many things, I still feel that hillary rodham[ clinton] was by far; the much better choice for america and women in general. I'm just glad he chose her for secretary of state, but I think it should've been the entire other way around; as in, she picked him after winning!
