Trust Obama on Clinton If he picks her as secretary of state, she's the right choice.

  • The Problem Is....

I loved Bill Clinton as President and I would have been perfectly happy to see Hillary in the Oval Office. Neither, however, blinds me to the massive problem with making Hillary Secretary of State. It has nothing directly to do with Hillary. It's named Bill. President Clinton is a man of very large appetites and very few restraints. He would not be able to keep his mouth shut. He would not be able to keep whatever commitments he made to the administration. He would be the story when Obama and his new initiatives should be the story. It would be Obama's first really big mistake to undercut himself in that way.

Good question. I'd say that if the Obama Administration were to accmomplish any and/or all of the following: bringing about a resolution to the Iraq War, improving the situation in Afghanistan, preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear power via peaceful means, negotiation of a peace deal and two-state solution between Israel and Palestine, then whomever was the Secretary of State would be, rightly, viewed as one of the great international diplomats in our nation's history, and would be a formidable candidate should that person decide to run for the Presidency in 2016. In other words, if Obama is a successful President, the cabinet members who contributed to that success would inevitably benefit, in terms of reputation and future opportunities.

  • two steps ahead

dear joan: once again, i felt compelled to write and say,"kudos." saw you on hardball last night and couldn't agree more with you - perhaps because you were expressing exactly how i too am feeling lol. in my estimation, president elect obama has shown throughout the campaign, he is always two steps ahead of we the public, his adversaries, the pundits and the msm. he is looking through a different prism and seeing a bigger picture than what has gone before. we supported this man because of his thoughtfulness, intellect, deliberateness and "big picture - different path" ways; and i for one, am willing to trust him on his decisions.

Thanks.....In that case, Hillary should decline the Secretary of State and go for President pro tempore of the Senate, whatever the hell that is. Is it an appointment or senate election or what?

  • Or Better Still

Run for the House instead of the Senate next time and become Speaker.

  • Trust Obama on Clinton/I am with you!

Last night I was elated to finally hear someone defend Hillary correctly. Thank you Joan. I am sick and tired of Chris Matthews bashing Senator Clinton and the former President. They are both professionals and Hillary knows well what the office of the Secretary of State entails. It was Hillary who pushed the former president to select Madeline Albright as their Secretary of State.

Matthews is mean spirited and if Hillary should accept this position, it would be my hope she never grant Matthews an interview. MSNBC likes to put FOX news down because of their unfair reporting, but Matthews might consider joining Hannity since FOX hates all progressives and he sounds like him.

There has been no confirmation from the Obama camp and Chris Matthews has guests he knows will further his hate campaign against Senator Clinton. The African American woman on with Joan Walsh last night has demonstrated her disdain for Hillary and still insists the former President made racial remarks during the campaign. Sorry, the man doesn't have a racist bone in his body. This woman, no doubt a Republican.

Hillary had eight million votes and in 2012 if this hate persists, Obama may want to help now or perhaps risk losing us if this Matthews hate he is spreading continues.

  • @ Mao (and anyone else doubting Obama's claim to change)

    From the 60 Minutes interview.

(CBS) Kroft: When the price of oil was at $147 a barrel, there were a lot of spirited and profitable discussions that were held on energy independence. Now you’ve got the price of oil under $60.

    Mr. Obama: Right.

Kroft: Does doing something about energy is it less important now than…

    Kroft: Why?

Mr. Obama: Well, because this has been our pattern. We go from shock to trance. You know, oil prices go up, gas prices at the pump go up, everybody goes into a flurry of activity. And then the prices go back down and suddenly we act like it’s not important, and we start, you know filling up our SUVs again.

And, as a consequence, we never make any progress. It’s part of the addiction, all right. That has to be broken. Now is the time to break it.

Can anyone honestly say that Obama's not radical, in the true sense of the word?

I've never heard a president speak like this in my lifetime, at least, not that I can recall. Cuomo used to speak this way.

Obama is clearly not amassing his cabinet simply so he can check out and let the government run on auto pilot.

For the life of me I can't figure out what all the concern is about.

  • WHAT A RIDICULOUS ARGUMENT!

Joan, you, like so many delusional liberals, are thoroughly clueless on this.

    Trust Obama?

The guy who named RAHM EMANUEL as his chief of staff -- a hardline neoliberal free market anti-regulation ideologue who's worked so hard for YEARS to promote IMF/World Bank policies that have hurt millions around the world and eviscerated our finance and economic structure domestically, bringing us to the state we're now in. The hardline rightwing zionist guy who condemned Bush for being "too hard" on Israel?

HILLARY CLINTON AS SECRETARY OF STATE???

Like Emanuel, she's an absolutely APPALLING choice! Both are morally bankrupt corporate whores totally alligned to AIPAC, Wall Street and military policies around the globe. They are exactly like mainstream Republicans. There is no difference between Hillary Clinton and Gates or Kissinger or Eagleburder. The fact that you have a mass murdering terrorist like Kissinger supporting Hillary in this position says it all.

I wish I could be amused by how easily liberals like you totally forget all your supposed principles, how you get all gooey when it comes to Democrats like Hillary, how you stop demanding anything from people like Clinton and Emanuel and Obama -- people TOTALLY uninterested in making any fundamental changes in foreign policy or economic policy.

Let's just sit back and trust that they'll change the world for us.

Kerry or Richardson would've been better choices for the position, not great, but better than the pro-warmongering Hillary Clinton.
