Is just a bloody Limey...
I will often use "Who" when I should've used "Whom", thanks for setting a brotha straight.
I'll check out the articles you referred to. Believe me, I understand your concerns. I'm not overly wild about the Clinton Psychodrama being taken for a World Tour, but I'm willing to give this whole thing a chance to play out. I dont agree with those who say that once Obama hires her, he can't fire her if she's "going rogue" on him. (One of my favorite phrases from the campaign.) My observation is that Obama thinks strategically, and does things with a plan in mind and a long-term vision. That's not the same as saying just blindly "trust" him, but let's greet this idea with wary optimism.
You've got to admit, the idea of both Clintons being out of the country for extended periods of time may not be a bad thing :).
Clinton. Vinton.
You did it. The impossible rhyme. Sincere kudos. I started singing (in my mind, not literally) Vinton songs going back to my brother's old records...
Hey, this has become an intense thread. Somewhere some common ground...? (or is that too naive a question?)
And save up her strength for her next presidential fight..
Speaking of being too smug, as I was about to go to bed (After reading what the peeps have been and posting, and celebrating another Steelers win--it's so much fun to whup Bengal butt.)when I remembered B-Rock's subtle smack-down of Hillary back in Iowa: "I look forward to you advising me." Looks like the brotha was being prophetic.
Relax, gang, B-Rock's got this one handled!
NewYorkNY, as badly in need of a Xanax as she is, has one thing right: I'm such a damn Obama Stan! :)
Good night, all. Sleep tight, and try not to look at that Dow!

Behind the scenes.
AP: Obama "Aide: Obama on Track to Nominate Clinton"
"Some Democrats and government insiders have questioned whether Clinton is too independent and politically ambitious to be an effective secretary of state. But Obama is said to admire her talents and experience, as do many other Democrats."
The link didn't work, but you can google it.
Other Obama aides have noted: "She's a great team player."
Yay!!!!!!
I hope AP is correct. I have some confidence in Team Obama-Clinton on foreign matters. Bush just about sank us in the eyes of the world.
I wonder if Matthews wasn't doing a little mea culpa with you, the miserable cur--showing a little respect in lieu of when it mattered.
The first law as far as I'm concerned is never blame a politician for being a politician, appreciate them for it. The alternative is the old boys, ideology, and the outright maniacal greed of a Phil Gram.
I pretty much said when it happened the whole Hillary "hawk" perception was a ploy necessitated by the circumstances, but nicely exploited by Obama. It's nice to see he agrees. It again underscores he's a pro, and she's a pro, and that's who the hell "we" need in office at this time.
I wanted her to be president, then vice-president, but now it looks like I'll have to settle for her as secretary of state--all for the same reason. She brings an authority and presence to the position that nobody has in a long time. It makes me wonder if we're actually going to see something done on the world stage we haven't seen in my lifetime. Yes, it has to do with Iraq, but it also has to do with Israel.
Maybe the three of us should start a "Draft Krugman" campaign and website to rally the progressive left to push for Obama to pick him as Treasury Secretary? I agree, AKA, I'm irritated that his name hasn't even come up on a list of potential candidates, and the man just won the NOBEL PRIZE for economics earlier this year! I think the reason is that he's too left-of-center, too Keynesian or Galbraithian (hey, I just invented a new word!), too critical of the laissez-faire market fundamentalism that has ruled Wall Street for 30 years (but especially the past 10). His selection would almost certainly send the street and the big brokerages and investment banks into a tizzy, but like I mentioned earlier that would be all the more reason to choose him, rather than some Goldman Sachs, neoliberal douchebag, which is almost certainly what we will actually get.
Robert Reich would be a great choice too, as he's definitely left-of-center and a strong critic of the neoliberal consensus of recent decades. Or he could reprise his role as Labor Secretary from the Clinton Administration, but really turn it into an activist, outspoken role this time to really fight for labor rights and unions.
"I wonder if Matthews wasn't doing a little mea culpa with you, the miserable cur--showing a little respect in lieu of when it mattered."
I like Matthews more than you do, but I have to admit that I laughed out loud at your description of him as a miserable cur.
I just love literate and pithy!
And it just tickles me to death that Sen. McCain has issued a statement urging Congress to approve Gov. Janet Napolitano's appointment to the Homeland Security post when it hasn't even been announced. I guess McCain is trying to follow Obama's lead on the gracious front.
It's hard to tell if you were being facetious, but I think McCain's glee over the idea of Napolitano heading DHS has more to do with removing the most dangerous potential challenger for his Senate seat when/if he runs for re-election in 2010, along with ensuring that AZ gets a Republican governor (Napolitano's replacement would be the GOP Secretary of State).
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
