going to bed feeling hopeful and confident.
when we wake up, it's time to go vote. this is it!
We're here for you, Joan.
50 minutes to Dixville Notch...
There are times, while I watch cable news, that I am elated to see Joan as a guest commentator. I didn't realize that she was on this blog until recently. Keep up the good work!
This election really has been interesting and hopefully it will mark a turn back towards greatness for our country... To Joan, and all of Salon, thanks for all the kick-ass reporting you've done throughout this long campaign season!
Salon has been one of the sites i have come to check on every day. There arent many independent media organizations left, but you guys are the real deal.
He really won't be safely in office until inauguration. Because, as we all know, a Hillary supporter has brought to the Supreme Court a credible lawsuit challenging his eligibility to be president. Once they determine he is ineligible, Palin -- I mean McCain will be inaugurated. I’m not trying to make you worry.
First of all - I have no idea how I'm going to sleep tonight. That being said, when everything is finished, and the presidency decided, I have no idea what I'm going to do with myself. I have been at the computer for literally hours on end, checking blogs, viewing polling sites, etc.
I feel as if I will go through some sort of withdrawal (and that's if Obama wins and Prop 8 fails!).
If the unthinkable happens (McCain wins and Prop 8 passes), I will feel as if my country has been hijacked. Hatred, fear and intolerance will be the new "Red, White and Blue". That's a scenario that I will never be able to recover from - but in all honesty, it's one that probably won't pan out.
It's been a WILD 2 years, and I'm glad to have been a vocal part in Salon.
Now, as the night continues, all I have to do is tolerate these new Obama/Rev. Wright hatred ads that are literally on EVERY COMMERCIAL BREAK I've seen.
When will they learn? Hopefully tomorrow! :)
Did you see Palin's appearance on SNL's Election Bash?
Was that just heavy-handed humor, or did she actually threaten NBC's broadcast license?
Hi Joan, I have enjoyed your views on MSNBC. I am about to bust. So full of Hope and pride in our Country. Cant wait for Obama to take office. I feel so good to be able to love my President like we did in the old days. Cant wait...
thorsteinveblen, my daughter watched SNL in NY and was horrified by Palin -- she wasn't funny, and that threat was particularly not funny.
Everyone, hang in there, and let's ignore provocateurs.
He has a really strong liberal message. I think we should all vote for him.
At least you guys fixed that banner ad you were running earlier today.
Tomorrow morning I will be working the voting polls as a volunteer. It's my first time, and I'm not certain what I'll be asked to do, but I felt I had to do something productive. That's the good news; the bad news is that I will be out-of-touch with my daily information from salon.com and other sites. Maybe I'll bring my laptop with me and on a break try to connect to the Internet for a brief glimpse of what is transpiring around the country (Texas is safely in the red category, I'm sorry to say).
I think the entire nation is waiting to exhale, after all these months and given the enormity of the challenge ahead of us.

PS And, yes, I agree; the Palin spot on SNL Presidential Bash was certainly not funny and was generally weird.
I can't relax. I can't look and I can't look away. The polls, the commentaries, the blogs. It's all too much and I can't get enough. Rachel and Keith and Chris. With Bill Maher thrown in for good measure. Arguably, the most exciting and certainly the most significant election in a lifetime. And that's just as it should be. This is brand new territory. Something we've never seen is about to happen right here. Right here. Not in Europe. Not on the Moon. In America. My goodness. My goodness...
So now the incumbent party in the White House is done! 16/17, soon to be 17/18. Woot!
What a nerve-wracking 24 hours it will be. Thank heavens you're out there for us, Joan! I don't know how I'll be able to sleep tonight. I watched Obama's rally in Virginia tonight, and he was better than ever. And to think of the personal heartache he had to be feeling. It gave me goosebumps to think this man could be our president. A true leader at last. I'll probably cry when I finally get to cast my vote for him. Hope over Fear! (BTW, I saw Sarah Palin on SNL and I didn't know what to make of it; was it supposed to be funny? I thought it was creepy.)
The future always sucks. Especially the one you hoped for.
It will be fun to watch the comments in. I'll try to ignore the trolls.
I am looking forward to walking to my polling place tomorrow and voting. I have never been so eager to vote before.
Here's an idea: do something else. Without revealing too much, I have my car parked legally at my polling place, with a "Tammy Baldwin for Congress" yard sign behind my windshield. It looks great. Obama is recommended by implication. I voted early, so I have the day free to go bike riding, and then to my Tai Chi/Chi Gong class in the evening.
The only thing to be concerned about is vote fraud, but I don't think it will be enough to give the election to McCain. Though I look at the "Republican" party as a criminal operation, their day is over. The planet will not stand for another stolen election, to say nothing of another series of fraudulent wars. It would look kind of funny when Obama wins by 60% in states like Wisconsin, then loses the election.
One thing worth keeping in mind is that it took an era as bad as that of the Bush regime to bring the change that is coming. There's a beauty to it, really. I believe the momentum for change is strong enough to bring the Bush gang to justice. If this can be done, a great national cleansing will take place.
