BBC just called it for Obama

BBC America just called it for Obama

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 08:02 PM

Holograms

Actually, it was taking me back to my youth and Star Wars.

Faux just called it for Obama too. Now I can relax. It's over, and it's just beginning.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 08:07 PM

OBAMA!

Everyone's calling it for Obama (except for PBS, who is waiting for the polls to close). Sarah Palin will not be introducing, or even appearing with, John McCain tonight. Wow.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 08:09 PM

That didn't take long

Already some talking heads on Fox are saying that they hope Obama listens to the business community.

I guess because they've been managing things so well lately.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 08:12 PM

Is it just me?

Or does Shepherd really seem like he's on drugs? Could he be more mellow?

whatever

here's to over the top graphical displays!!

Dancing in the Streets

on film in Kenya right now.......tearful calls coming into web shows from around the world.......and a million Rockettes precision kicking in the space between Bill O'Reilly's ears.

Joy and vigor in the American Wild West, and along riversheds, across deserts and playgrounds. I love TV and radio and webworld tonight - invisible wires in the night sky. Jesse Jackson's tears. And John McCain steps up.........

Love is in the air.

McCain's concession speech

McCain is trying to concede graciously, and yet his supporters on the lawn ahout "Boo!" at the mention of Obama's name.

Frankenstein's monster lives. I suspect it will haunt McCain for some time.

*

"Chris Matthews is giving me a tingle "

Me too. This is pretty amazing. If I keep seeing black faces on my TV I think I'll break down like a baby.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 08:22 PM

McCain's concession speech...

....one of his better moments!

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 08:22 PM

And thanks

to MegaSalon, a bastion of good news and caution and truth over the dark Bush years. Youse guys rock.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 08:25 PM

oh gosh this is sweet

Listening to McCain's concession speech.

Up until the very end I couldn't relax. Here comes the sun! Woooooo!

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 08:28 PM

I'm surprised

That was one of the best speeches I've heard McCain give. Very graceful. Some of his supporters though...

Doesn't matter. Let's see how these people react tomorrow. I'm just gonna enjoy this now.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 08:31 PM

Thank you all

Thanks for helping to keep my spirits up during the dark years.

Now its time for a change.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 08:32 PM

a sincere question

I don't recall so much booing at a presidential concession speech, but maybe I'm selectively forgetting.

I agree with Juliebird... McCain and Palin have channeled a lot of monstrosity in these past few weeks. His speech, while beautiful and measured and gracious, strikes me as "too little, too late." The ugliness will abide, but let's hope it gets marginalized over time.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 08:35 PM

nice speech, but ...

y'know, I wish McCain had shown a fraction of the decency and "respect" towards his rival during the actual freakin' campaign! It sounds a little hollow now, a little "I gotta say something nice about the guy who took my dream away!"

But, it was refreshing for McCain to say "the faults were mine, not yours:" a Republican accepting responsibility?!

Also ,the praise for Palin seemed .... excessive, especially given the campaign in-fighting in the last 2 weeks.

But most of all, McCain's assembled supporters scare me. (Could you imagine an Obama crowd booing McCain during Obama's concession speech? Fox would be crying "Insurrection!" and the SWAT teams would be dispatched).

So, I've turned over to

indecision 2008's coverage, and am feeling much better.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 08:36 PM

And know, the knives

They're starting to fight over the reasons for the loss. Glenn, you were right, this is beautiful. Thanks.

Minneapolis

I'm here in Minneapolis, and people are literally running through the streets yelling and cheering and honking. It's unreal. I've never seen anything like this.

(P.S. I overheard some girl saying she was so happy she could rape someone... she must not have known I was single.)

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 08:38 PM

Mm-Hm!

Suddenly "arab" doesn't seem like such an ugly word anymore.

And for any of you who are still a little worried.

Don't worry.

He's not one of us.

Really!

Mabrook ya Bararack! Mabrook!

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 08:41 PM

Light

And the world stunningly emerges from the darkness of the last eight years.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 08:41 PM

McCain didnt even let Sarah speak

nor did he share the limelight with her or even hug her or hold her hands...he must be hopping mad blaming her for his loss....

that said, i kinda feel sorry for McCain...such an honorable man, he should have changed parties.

the religious crazies are foaming at the mouth

I would giggle at this, if it weren't so disturbing:

Please join with me as we visualize this impenatrable wall that will stop Obama while protecting us from the evil he represents.

Dear Father God,

We join together and are humbly pleading that you will protect us ,your children. Please separate Barak Obama from the POTUs by a supernatural wall that he cannot penetrate.

Let the wall that he cannot penetrate be a barrier of protection for we that belong to you and that are covered by the blood.

I pray that the precious blood of your Son Jesus cover this wall and not allow Obama to pass into the presidency.

We ask this is name of our Savior, Jesus Christ-

Amen and Amen

What exactly are they praying for? I find this ignorance frightening.

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 08:48 PM

@Cindy Ross

I thought all of those Hale Bop people had all bopped themselves off!

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 08:52 PM

POTUs

What the heck is a POTU? Did the wingnut mean "people of the United States" and just mess up the capitalization? Wiki says Potu is a small village in some out of the way location.

I just got a new kitten and last night we were joking that it would be named either "Please God no" or "Thank you Jesus" depending.

Eddie Izzard

Eddie Izzard just admitted to contributing money to Obama's campaign on CNN. Isn't that illegal? Woops...

Tuesday, November 4, 2008 08:53 PM

I'm probably totally wrong, but

I sense that once he had to run his campaign a certain way, McCain's heart wasn't in this at all. He was just sort of doing what people told him to do, and not liking it. Perhaps this election ended the way he wanted it.

That being said, it really is finally "Morning in America".

Tentative Congratulations from Readerreader

Boy, this is a hard post for me to pen!

I would not even undertake this effort, were it not for Faulknerjr and Deloresflower, both of whom challenged me in my defense of Sarah Palin.

A few quick thoughts.

1. I had a serious mind to completely boycott the Obama presidency, body soul and mind. In part, it was my objection to his abortion stance. But as Indiana boy, maybe it also had something to do with race.

2. I am a family man. I'm sure none of you care, but there is a place at Walt Disney World called the Hall of Presidents. It really, in my opinion, is the ultimate place of honor for someone privileged to be elected president. I was of half a mind to boycott that place -- again, based on my opposition to Obama's over the top abortion position. But now, I'm thinking, why not be magnaminous. I may go there with my family after all.

3. I'm still following the tracking polls and hoping for a miraculous turn-around in Ohio and elsewhere! But alas, I fear it is not to be.

4. Sarah Palin. I know you all hate her. I love her. Just like I love the members of my own family her age, of which she reminds me. 2012? Who cares? I wanted her to win this year, in the worst way. I may even shed a tear tonight over it. Even my wife, a died in the wool Democrat, voted for her and John McCain. Gosh, how it pains me to she her denied.

5. Returning again to abortion, the Catholic Democrats in Pennsylvania had this one on their hands. Hyde Amendment. Freedom of Choice Act. They voted for Obama. The blood is on their hands, not mine, or my family's. I'm glad I'm not Catholic, or a Pennsylvanian. We did what we could here in Indiana to preserve the sanctity of life.

6. As for President Obama, and me, I'll just have to reconcile it all it in my own sweet time. It's really quite an adjustment, to be frank with you all, in terms of having a somewhat nebulous character from Chicago in charge of the national government. What on earth were we thinking?! Okay, I've had my rant.

For the gazillith time, farewell Salon readers. I have no need to correspond with you again. I respect your righteousness, if not always your opinions. And I hope you will all think at least a tiny bit better of my gal Sarah, on account of my posts to you all. She really is a sweetheart, and I love her like one of my own.

Best wishes to you all. And good night.
