Making a mockery of 9/11

Sarah Palin's ignorance about foreign policy Thursday night will shadow John McCain's legacy, no matter who wins the election.

The letters thread is now closed.

Good post

...but it should be simply Ukraine, not the Ukraine:

Here she is Miss. Uhmurica

Man, dig this crazy the Palin pageant.

Thursday, September 11, 2008 07:46 PM

Get a life Joan

I watched NBC and CBS, they both gave the Republicans twice as much face time, in a supposedly nonpartisan event. Obama will never win without the MSM, and if today is any indication he should go home right now.

And America Cringes... I hope!

If that interview is suddenly lauded tomorrow as another 'home run,' I'm running for the nearest bridge.

I won't jump - but I'll sure wish I could shove McCain a bit!

Speaking of Thanks to Charles Gibson,

Ms. Walsh and Mr. Greenwald,

Forgive a seemingly unrelated post, but this afternoon--unless my eyes deceived--for a few hours there was an AP wire by Charles Babington of AP that made my jaw drop.

It was a clear-eyed, in the best journalistic sense, look at the deceptions repeated by Gov Palin et al. about, among other things, her self-styled (and purely duplicitous) "maverick" character regarding the Nowhere Bridge and, I believe, earmarks.

And now, it's just gone.

Does anyone have any idea if a) I'm wrong, it's still there, or b) if it is gone, why?

Thanks to both of you for your candid and rigorous work.

Well,

what else hasn't McCain made a mockery of?

Thursday, September 11, 2008 07:57 PM

Maybe Palin was trying to lower the bar ...

Maybe Palin was trying to lower the bar for the VP debate, and accidentally dropped it on her foot.

I hereby apologize to Charlie Gibson

I must admit that I expected a cushy interview peppered with softball questions that allowed Ms Palen to showcase her folksy charm while giving canned answers to prepared questions. She really looked out of her element . It was pretty cringe-inducing in places and you are right, "Charlie" did not seem to be in the mood to be strung along. I should email him a big kiss. Also on the upside, Obama's appearance tonite at the "service symposium" showcased him at his best, addressing the notions of what constitutes service in ways which made him seem engaging , thoughtful and authentic in his belief in the greatness of our country and better yet at how government can actually do good. This is where he shines.

..ahh perhaps things are not as bleak as I had felt. My only hope is that the Obama campaign goes back on the offensive tomorrow and not look back.

@Rain Worshipper

Did a quick search and found the article you mentioned here:

I'm Full of Glee and Hope...

There is no way, no way at all, anyone could watch that interview and think this woman should be anywhere NEAR the presidency. I've seen feathers with more gravitas. Hillary Clinton would eat this woman alive. Hell, any female politician currently in existence could. GOP women like Kay Bailey Hutchinson must be cringing in embarrassment at their party right now.

This did not come off as a politician's interview. This came off like a JOB interview, with a really inexperienced receptionist.

She's supposed to know foreign policy because she's close to Russia, but barely knows Russia, or understands the recent conflict with Georgia? They don't even seem to have gone over that with her apart from rehearsing the pronunciation of their president's name. Which she did great, I'll give her that.

But I bet she'd make a great Booster club president.

@tjwombat

Things ain't bleak, they get better by the week...

Thursday, September 11, 2008 08:13 PM

Won't matter

This entire affair is an episode of The Twilight Zone---- the worse she is the more popular she is. Her and her Zombie followers---- though I actually felt bad for her tonight for a brief moment--- she is just SO AWFUL---- then I quickly got over it when she went back to being a bitch.

Here it is, at Fox's website no less.

Analysis: McCain's claims skirt facts, test voters

Thursday, September 11, 2008

By CHARLES BABINGTON, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON — The "Straight Talk Express" has detoured into doublespeak.

Republican presidential nominee John McCain, a self-proclaimed tell-it-like-it-is maverick, keeps saying his running mate, Sarah Palin, killed the federally funded Bridge to Nowhere when, in fact, she pulled her support only after the project became a political embarrassment.

Blundering toward the Vice Presidency

To add more grist to the mill, the Washington Post reports, also on 9/11, that “Gov. Sarah Palin linked the war in Iraq with the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, telling an Iraq-bound brigade of soldiers that included her son that they would 'defend the innocent from the enemies who planned and carried out and rejoiced in the death of thousands of Americans.'"

Ms. Palin doesn't understand the Bush doctrine. Does she also believe that Iraq planned and executed the terrible events on 9/11?

Thursday, September 11, 2008 08:25 PM

This Is What Republicans Think A Strong Woman Is?

Is it just me that, about 4 minutes in when she raises her voice and starts getting defensive, thinks that she looks like she either wants to slap him or run away and cry?

Can you name a single other self-respecting female politician in this day and age who would not even keep a minimal pose of dignity and reserve? She seems to always deal only with people who think she's charming. I mean, Hillary gets emotional, but she would NEVER get this way on TV. This woman is not a professional.

This is the image a Republican sees when he hears "strong woman." She's like a Stepford amalgam of every character trait stereotypically mentioned by conservatives throughout the years as an objection to a female president--the emotionalism alone. She's a walking caricature of a kind I haven't seen since I moved from the South 21 years ago. Good god. It's sad. But really, really funny.

Barracuda is a total lightweight

but as mentioned earlier, it's as if she gains popularity the more we discover how unqualified she is. Makes me sick to ponder the possibility of that ignorance leading our country.

Thursday, September 11, 2008 08:29 PM

Thank you Ms. Walsh

You're not being sexist.

As a woman, and a feminist, I demand that female candidates be held to the same standards as men. And Sarah Palin clearly is unqualified to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.

Sure, some of my friends can't say what the Bush Doctrine is either -- but none of us is vying for the vice presidency.

And BTW, I have plenty of friends already, so I don't need a president and vice president I'd want to invite to a barbecue. I need a president and vice president who are ready to handle the challenges of this complex world.
