I heartily hope you're right.
I'll believe it when I see it...
Klytus, knock it off.
the Iowans are good people, and in the Iowa polls Obama is leading by double digits.
...the kind of woman John McCain would call a *unt, like he did his wife.
I've been reading the blogs and two points:
1) Sarah Palin didn't just fire up her own base. The Democratic base (and leaders) are BALLISTIC. She just drove up DNC and Obama fundraising by 200%.
2) McCain has lost his cushion with the media. Joe Klein, of all people, went nuts. This does not bode well for McCain as he now does not have the press cover he enjoyed for so long.
I believe this is going to crash and burn for them in the long run. Lots of glitz tonight, but the flame out is coming. She is going to have to be very savvy to modulate, I'm not sure she can pull it off and her record is very spotty.
"I'm glad she came out swinging tonight and damaged the victim narrative. Joe Biden needn't worry about harming a self-proclaimed pit bull, and he's free now to have at it."
I had to work very late tonight, so I missed Palin's speech. However, I caught a few sound bites in the car on the way home, and my first thoughts echoed yours: "Sic Joe Biden on her! I want him to take this bitch DOWN!"
I'll be looking forward to the VP debate.
BFD. George Plunkitt could have claimed as much, with plenty of picnics and parties to boot.
A ward heeler is a ward heeler.
What does everybody make of tonight's moose droppings?
I want Hillary and real feminists to take this pit bull in lipstick down.
Speaking of pit bull in lipstick, doesn't that sound really lesbianish?
Here is a fuller picture of Biden and how some women view him:

Plagiarism is but one indicator of overall character. Biden earlier academic dishonesty is more important than the speech scandal. However, I pretty much give people a pass on anything that happened in the 20s or over twenty years ago.
I call it my Rule of Twenty.
You're a sexist pig, but only under the current circumstances will anyone on Salon call you out on it. Normally they'll engage in amazing noetic acrobatics to avoid noticing any pro-female or anti-male sexism, but in this one case they will call you out, and they will be right.
Getting a woman in a position of power is not interesting to non-sexists. Getting the right person into power, regardless of sex, is.
I just read a poll that says that male votes if given a choice between Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin actually prefer Palin by a slight margin. On the other hand, female voters overwhelmingly prefer Clinton.
Do you have a link for that poll? Would be interesting to see the crosstabs on that, especially with party affiliation.by gender.
The Associated Press "analysts" are stating that it was a "star-turning performance" that was "reminiscent of Ronald Regan."

What planet are we living on?
1) Agreed.
2) Agreed.
3) Disagree, but only because to do so in the current climate is just a vote for morality and not practical in keeping the worst party out of office. I'd LOVE to see a viable 3rd party... a 4th and 5th for that matter, but recent elections have taught us that a Nader vote is just a vote against democrats. They don't have a Perot and Paul isn't running so the other side is unified.
What do the buttons "the hottest governor from the coolest state" all over the convention floor say to you? Hmmm?
I hope I'm right, too.
But one big fact persuades me -- McCain's high favorables really only exist because of moderates, who have perceived him rightly or wrongly as moderate. The GOP base despises him even now, Palin or no Palin.
So if he gives moderates a reason to doubt him as a moderate -- and boy did he tonight -- his support among them could collapse under sustained pressure by Obama.
My bet is that Obama knows that better than I do, and will act accordingly.
Obama took a salary cut to work with communities. He could have gone to wall street with his law degree, but instead he decided to help people that need it the most; disenfranchised voters.
Your comments are bordering on racist.
Well. We doubted McCain’s judgment. We won't again. Still, Palin said nothing of substance to anyone who doesn't happen to be in the right wing. So Dems and Obama are all about displaying weakness before our enemies, big government, raising taxes and controlling your life. "You're on your own" somehow automatically equals “Big Brother and more taxes,” huh? That it? That's all she has to say about the last 8 years? No lessons learned? No wisdom to go forward? She lied, or at minimum, misrepresented everything Barack Obama is about, and for what? While I respect her for pulling off that speech, there isn't much else to her besides the regular self-involved, small-minded GOP talking points of the right wing. Too bad; I'd hoped for more. But given her display of toughness (of which I have no doubt and must admire), it would be sexist for Biden to hold back on her for an instant. Here we go. Welcome to the real race...
...to collect their paychecks from the right wing noise machine.
Wow. I don't think I've ever seen a more transparent example of a paid hack posting/trolling a message board.
It's like it doesn't even matter that Palin doesn't stand for a single thing 99.99999% of feminists, womens' rights, or civil libertarians stand for. Get a woman in the WH no matter what!
Seriously, Jack and Jill's boss needs to coach HIM a little more on how to make a better post as a concern troll.
Firing Librarians? Librarians may seem unassuming and unthreatening, but the librarian in Wasilla energized HER base and forced you, the "pitbull in lipstick", to back down and give her her job back after a flat wrongful firing. As one who vehemently opposes banning books on the basis of one crackpot's feelings, I salute her. Oh Mrs. Bush, former librarian that you are, what exactly do YOU have to say about Ms. Palin's conduct in that case? I, for one would be interested to know.
And Librarians know where to look up the laws that protect us. If you can't win against a pissed off librarian, you are going to be moosemeat by November. You may have had a half empty convention hall whooping for you, but to say the least, you were preaching to the choir. Pat Buchanan pissed everyone off in 1992, I think you may have gone him one better--or worse tonight. Frankly, how broad do you think the lasting appeal of pitbulls in lipstick is? And I'd say being a Harvard educated a community organizer in a major American city like Chicago DOES trump the burdens of the Mayor of that teeming burg, Wasilla AK.
I can hardly wait until the VP debate. Joe Biden, a man of real experience and real international reputation and ability is going to make mooseburgers of you. After all your insults tonight, I hope he mashes you immercifully. For to pull any punches on the basis of your gender would be 'sexist' of course.
Your packaging is attractive, but you, Madam Governor, are a toxic waste dump of a human being. May John McCain rue this day for the rest of his sorry life.
