A pit bull in lipstick?

A snarling Sarah Palin savages Barack Obama while her defenders deride sexism and "liberal media" bias.

The letters thread is now closed.

Johnny's Pick

I think that Johnny Boy's pick of Sarah is pretty much a "Hail Mary" pass. That being the case, Sarah's 17 y/o daughter comming up pregnant is pretty much the interception.

To AKA Smith

All right, you convinced me; no more degrading comments about Palin.

But really, I don't think you should give up on Obama and Biden.

I know you don't like plagiarism, but it happened over 20 years ago, so you should be able to forgive a guy who one time forgot to give a citation to a quote that he had correctly cited 20 times before.

Biden has done a lot in the area of spousal abuse victim advocacy.

And Obama, well he is Michelle's husband, so that should put him high in your good graces.

At the very least support Obama-Biden to save choice.

"Community organizer"? Try "ward heeler"

That's what Obama actually was, and it's not a responsible position. It's not on the level of being a mayor or a governor.

I'd rather trust a mayor and governor than a bagman.

the infant's inclusion in the event

I've noticed some comments about the Palin's infant. A four-month old infant with Down Syndrome would developmentally be functioning like about a 2 month old child or thereabouts, maybe 3 mos at most, possibly even more like a 1 month old; they also have very low muscle tone, hence the difficulty holding and handling them in ways that appear "comfortable" or more typical.

I personally would be reluctant to be taking a child this young with health risks (these children typically get many upper respiratory infections for bio-physical reasons) to these types of events with large numbers of people, and can only feel that it is being done as part of a "I am a parent of a handicapped child and want brownie points for that" message. Then again she risked the child's health when she insisted on flying back to Alaska to give birth when early labor began--was this related to the Alaska Independence Party issues relating to citizenship?

The older children's inclusion seems natural as part of a parent's pride and wanting to share the moment with her children and family.

You can trust McCain to be your "bagman."

Your body bag man. Lol.

@ Dalivus

I haven't changed my mind at all. I have always been consistent:

1) Attacking people using sexism is wrong.

2) I am pro-choice and I vote my values. Palin wants to make 12 year old girls bear their father's children. Palin is therefore absolutely dreadful.

(3) I have been in support of The Green Party and Cynthia McKinney almost since Hillary Clinton conceded.

I may change candidates, but I don't change values. Palin is nothing like Hillary Clinton.

More on the Community Organiziner as Insult ...

Racing home to see Palin's speech tonight, I listened to Giuliani on NPR with a sick feeling. He was mean, and folks were laughing. He was sarcastic, and folks were cheering. He mocked. I especially hate that.

That's when I first heard the rips at "Community Organizer."

Palin was worse. She milked that new hideous talking point through her entire speech. It was as if the world had turned upside down in a week. Suddenly the lofty principles of serving your community and fellow man were something to be mocked. That's even leaving aside for now the ridiculousness, in general, of minimizing what Obama has done/does/inspires others to do.

The people I know who serve their communities in "organizing" capacities are some of the most caring, selfless, humanitarian people I know. My opinion of Palin and the Republicans has sunk with my heart, as I watched thousands cheer this snide woman on, and TV Talking Heads praised her for a "great" speech.

I Don't Know What Bothered Me More

I caught a few moments of her reading her script on the Beeb, with the clumsy gestures, and I must admit, this lady needs some serious coaching to get over her "aww shucks, I'm just a small town girl with big brass balls" schtick. Under that mousy facade, you can see that smug, 'insider -- "you guys just don't get it"' look. That righteous "I'm-going-to-heaven-&-you-ain't" sneer. The flinty eyes. And the smooth lines. But then I saw all the crazies in that auditorium. They were lapping this stuff up like a dog eating it's own vomit. They were hearing what they wanted to hear -- the fables and myths about an America that just doesn't exist. The one they have no intention of sharing with anyone who doesn't believe the same as they do. Woah!!

Don't you love how the media fawn about Palin adding millions to Wasilla's budget?

When what they really mean is that she put the tiny town in that much debt...?

Wonderful... more idiotic economic policies from the folks that brought us the last 8 years.

She also sounds like a petty dictator more than a leader.

I would have thought McCain realized he needed more middle-of-the-road folks to win, so I must admit I was thrilled when I heard about this extremely bizarre choice...

Can you imagine how hard the wingnuts would be savaging any Democratic candidate with 1/10 of the baggage this neophyte has?

To welcomerain... You're comment was idiotic. Here's information about Obama's career as a community organizer.*

Obama: graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School; received contract and advance to write a book ("Dreams from my Father") as well as a fellowship at the University of Chicago Law School. Directed the Illinois Project Vote from April to October 1992, a voter registration drive with a staff of 10 and 700 volunteers that achieved its goal of registering 150,000 of 400,000 unregistered African Americans in the state, leading Crain's Chicago Business to name Obama to its 1993 list of "40 under Forty" powers to be. Appointed as a Lecturer in constitutional law at the University of Chicago. Joined Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland, a 12-attorney law firm specializing in civil rights litigation and neighborhood economic development. Active in several community organizations, usually as a board member.

Obama threw 4th amendment under the bus and it didn't help him

". Al-Qaida terrorists want to harm America, and he's worried someone won't read 'em their rights."' Isn't that perfect? After sucking up to the right by voting for FISA with telecom immunity, Obama still got slammed on civil liberties. He MIGHT AS WELL HAVE STOOD UP FOR SOMETHING. This is why Obama truly is inexperienced and, frankly, dangerous. He caves far too easily -- to Pelosi, to the Clintons, to the right, to just about everybody. And in the end it does him no good.
