Where I am, cities do not pay for hospitals. Many sports auditorum bond referendums fail. We also do not pay for sports auditorums, Boys and Girls clubs, etc. That's what private funds (like United Way) is for. Palin also slashed taxes irresponsibly. If she wanted than sports arena, she should have left the taxes alone to pay for it. I live in a small conservative town, and if they took on debt like that the politicians would be run out of town. I have to disagree...the debt could have been managed better, either by partnerships, grants, etc. She left a 22 million dollar debt that has to be serviced. Her "slash taxes and spend" mentality needs to be attacked.
The dept that you speak of were bonds that people voted on. While you may disagree that the bonds should have passed, and Palin did support the bond issue, it had nothing to do with slashing taxes to create the debt. It had to do with people actually voting to take that dept on to pay for community projects.
In fact, the bonds called for a 2.5% sales tax, which also passed.
..are the DNC, Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy, Kerry, the RBC. You know, the ones who gave us sham primaries, Mi and FL, a bogus roll call vote? Ayayayay! I'm talking to the clueless.
Everything about Obama was praised as "historic". Everything about Hillary was called "old". The fact that he is African American gave a good many people in the DNC cover for installing one of the most establishment powered candidates in DNC history.
Of course, if you're in the midst of it, you have a hard time seeing the forest for the trees. But those of us who were relegated to observer status can see perfectly wee what's going on and what is about to happen to Obama/Biden. The Republicans are just playing with their food right now.
Oh, BTW, calling Palin "condescending" and "mean" plays right into Republican hands. I'm not saying you said it but others on this board have. In fact, Palin is pretty much impervious to attacks right now. The Republicans are going to bring out their big guns soon.
You know, we Clintonistas never wanted another Republican president either. Well, it's not like you weren't warned.
The right hates government, and they deride "community organizing." So what would it like to see done at all? Answer: NOTHING!! Just go to work, be happy with your $2 an hour, buy more than you can afford, and SHUT UP! And pay no attention to that device on your telephone and your television set. Keep quiet, and no problems will crop up. And one more thing: BURN LOTS OF GAOLINE!!! It keeps faith-filled, loyal organizations like Halliburton and Exxon happy. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph; what a crock. If I wasn't afraid I'm going to really need it over the next four years, I'd mail in the ashes of my passport.
I didn't read all 200+ responses so maybe someone posted this link already. But very interesting letter going around the net from a resident of Wasilla where Palin was mayor...

1) It illustrates how appropriate the title to your column is!!!!!!!!
2) I think in pointing at her inexperience, people are overlooking at how amazing a political operative she is, read the letter in the link above.
3)She almost sounds like a female version of Cheney/Rove.....she appears to be a political mastermind of avoiding the blame for anything......
4) I think democrats should be very wary of her..............
Really, did anyone think Bristol was 5 months? I'll go to 4, but no more. I hope this isn't covered up above, I've not read all the posts. How early do you folks get up in the morning to post??
It worries me how so many of you insist that Gov Palin needs to "stay at home" with her baby, or "stay at home" with her preggers seventeen-yr old, or "a sick child always comes first."
Come on! As Governor or Veep, she would have People who would do those things for her. Just like any man would. Have you never heard of Day Care? Nannies? Au paires? Geeze, women have been taking advantage of these services for decades now; actually, for millenia.
If Gov Palin were a waitress at the local coffee shop, would you tell her that she needed to stay home with her young children? (Sans paycheck - of course!) Or stay at home to "be with" her 17-year old daughter throughout all nine months of the girl's pregnancy? Get real! Her daughter ought to be in school, and there's little medical reason that she can't.
After all the years of fighting for women's equality and enabling women to handle family responsibilities along with work outside the home, coming up with these lame excuses for Palin being a bad choice for Vice President is just embarrassing.
Attack her on issues of substance: her documented corruption, her lies and misrepresentations, her vicious and combative attitude towards governing.
Just don't say "her family has to come first" because THAT's sexist.
She has alot to offer,we need a reformer not a "feel your pain" politician- who is going to tax us beyond belief and be clueless.
Please explain how Gov. Palin is going to deal with Deficit Dubya's record deficits and gross fiscal mismanagement. We'll wait.
We need leadership.
Quite right. Another Bush is just going to make things even worse. But that's all pubs have to offer.
I don't agree with her on everything but I will support this ticket.
I didn't agree with everything she said either. Maybe we should compare lists.
If it would make a difference we have a problem that no election can fix.
Whatever that means. If anything.
Where are these 'Caucas' mountains you're so hyped about?
Here we go...One more run of the mill, "say anything," crucify-anyone politician.
If she had come off as small-town naive as they'd all thought she was, we may have had a problem. But this was a green light for Joe Biden and the rest of the press to jump on her, no bars held. And, as we now know that Ted Stevens was in fact, 100% responsible for her successful campaign election, that she is knee-deep in ear marks thanks to Mr. Steven's ex Chief of staff AND his son's lobbyist firm...I can only remind everyone that a pitbull rarely bites the hand that feeds it. How dare she compare herself with such an honorable breed!
