I don't know what National Enquirer has on Palin, but the main reason it is not respected, as far as I understand, is that it pays sources for stories.
It is, however, hard for me to believe that the National Enquirer is a black box and that National Enquirer journalists don't talk to mainstream reporters off-the-record and behind the scenes.
The star is next to my inane postings because I have posted many inane things. They are by good and inane alike, even yours. They do not mean stellar, simply existing.
When I read that the speech-writers were expected to have their work done - on overtime - the only thing left to know was could she deliver a pre-written speech with conviction.
Well, having not watched any of it, and only hearing or reading of the gist, it appears that she at least is able to mouth the words. What else is there to know? That's she's a rabid conservative? I already understood that. That's she's not just the epitome of tokenism? No, that hasn't changed by any measure.
Are Americans that stupid that they think she'd actually be a reasonable replacement should the 72 year old President suddenly drop dead? That is the trillion dollar question!
This is what you get when the powers that be refuse to look past the color of the skin to get to the content of the character.
Meaning what, if anything?
"Powers that be"? Remind us again who currently occupies the White House. Then, kindly explain how McCain/Palin are going to be any different.
McCain's looking pretty tired out. Must be all that baggage he's been hauling around.
Snarling not really and a big overstatement of her speech. Standing up for yourself, your supporters and your beliefs is not "mean", pointing out differences is not "mean". She has alot to offer,we need a reformer not a "feel your pain" politician- who is going to tax us beyond belief and be clueless. We need leadership. Her speech was well done. Being proud of being an American is not "mean" or something to apologize for. I don't agree with her on everything but I will support this ticket. I wonder if she was black or latino what difference it would make? If it would make a difference we have a problem that no election can fix.
Palin ascending to the vice presidency is as convoluted as the Bush/Cheeny ascension; that little thing about being appointed by the Supreme Court. Everything about this McCain/Palin trick seethes irrationality. Wake me up in November when Obama wins, or God help me find an oversees job if he doesn't.
Salon needs to cover this:

But wasn't his '92 speech in German -- or at least originally. I couldn't tell if that audience was dressed in brown shirts and shiny boots, the film was so grainy.
Well, at the time, I was taking German in college, I think I was watching it for class...
And I'd make a snarky comment about you being the OC CA Liberal, but I'm probably the only TC UT* Liberal, so I can't really talk. :)
As far as Palin goes... this might energize the Right, but it does nothing to talk to the Independents. And it shows the heart of Right Wing politics for what it is: a diseased, cancerous, blackened ball of utter hatred that should probably scare the hell out of most people.
If Obama-Biden say the right things after (never a sure thing, let's face it, they're Democrats), they SHOULD get a win in November. But it's good to know that Biden now has free license to CRUSH Palin in the debate, and he will, using these things called facts. Palin might want to look them up.
*TC UT = Tooele County, Utah. Our mayor runs a city with a population of about 25,000 people... maybe he can become the VP Pick in '12. ;)
After a day or two of grumpy old white men on parade, I must admit I was a little curious to see what the little known Governor of Alaska had to say. I'm no longer curious and even less interested.
Listening to clips of Karl Rove talking about Governor Tim Kaine and his "lack" of experience and then watching this even less experienced person slam Obama was incredible. Not in a good way.
I'm no fan of the mainstream press; I pretty much detest most of them...but some of them are actually doing their jobs. The "punishment" for CNN because Campbell Brown dared to question Palin's credentials was bullying at its finest and a pathetic attempt to control the message. Joe Klein is finally speaking out and telling the press not to back of the vetting process. That one, I must admit, is a little shocking.
I know women tend to be a little harder on other women...I'm guilty of that as well...but I found Palin's level of sarcasm and condescending attitude sickening. After a few minutes, her voice grated my nerves like nails on a chalkboard. It was like watching an episode of Will & Grace, except there was just a little Will, no Grace at all, and a whole lot of KAREN.
I went to bed with a headache.
...to sweet and loving pit bulls everywhere. There's no need for this kind of breed demonization. You should be trying to hurt the nasty, aggressive politicians, not the innocent, people-loving canines. Has this author ever even met a pittie?
Sarah Palin would be more appropriately referred to as a copperhead snake, a monitor lizard, a grizzly bear or a tiger- choose some animal that hasn't already had its image wrongfully destroyed by the media. The more the "vicious pit bull" stereotype is perpetuated, the more perfectly nice and extremely people-friendly dogs will be sentenced to death for no reason but the shape of their head.
