A pit bull in lipstick?

A snarling Sarah Palin savages Barack Obama while her defenders deride sexism and "liberal media" bias.

How to ensure that Bush-Cheney-Rove-McCain-Palin are properly dumped in history's garbage heap???

OK, as someone pointed out, Sarah Palin lied shamelessly on her first national address.

Does that really matter to US citizens? Is it any different from what GW Bush and Gang had been doing all along right through the tenure from 2000 right up to now?

Remember that US citizens had twice over accepted GW Bush as POTUS, despite (or because of?) those lies!

So, what makes you feel it will be much different for McCain-Palin, especially as they learn to tune their lies to the Obama+Biden weaknesses as perceived by US citizens on the right?

Remember that Obama does not at this point command a huge lead over McCain (despite his credentials to be an effective president).

Now, how should thinking US citizens now work to ensure that Obama + Biden will put Bush-Cheney-Rove-McCain-Palin where they properly belong, in history's garbage heap?

Just the usual fact-challenged nonsense that the GOP specializes in

Lies and nastiness are all they've got and Palin delivered in spades. Now it may impress the media that she delivered her lines (scripted by McCain's people originally for a male candidate)reasonably well but we've heard all this crap before and the nation is tired of it. She remains an unvetted, inexperienced extremist who was put up to satisfy the fundie base. Biden will dismantle her in their debate.

There are no "common or ordinary people"

Again the republicans are bidding to outflank the democrats and manouevre themselves into the position of defenders of ordinary people.

The democrats need to expose this manipulation by pointing out (news flash)there are no common people, every person is an individual. But there are "middle class" people who are struggling, and who need help, and who, as a class, are the heart of any democracy worth the name.

Point out to voters that large helpings of flattery of middle class people, viewed through cliches like "hockey moms", is a way of making people feel good without really addressing their problems.

The verbal tricks, the flattery, the framing, the false dichotomies...anyone can see the deviousness of these if they are clearly pointed out. Obama and the democrats and the speech writers and the admen need to give voteres a quick, easy course in how to spot the verbal maniplation. It is long overdue and I thiink people would enjoy this quick lesson and be flattered (ironically, and in a good way) in receiving it.

contempt & condescension...

...is right. My guess is that they are banking on a segment of the population that still defines itself by an irrational fear of 'librals'. Unfortunately for them just as many people will be turned off by Palin's repulsively disconnected cynicism & anger.

here's a joke

someone told me.

I wasn't going to share it, but I really think the "pitbull with lipstick" schtick opens the door.

Q: What do you call a conservative who tells her daughter that abstinence is her only option?

A: Grandma.

Palin

It's amazing how quickly Rove wrote this speech! He's so busy now days with Fox news and his smear tour that finding the time must be a stretch..It must be a new mixture of the KoolAide supplement!

IF this dweeb from AK has a clue, a SINGLE clue, what shes getting herself into with the likes of the Republican smear machine she'll run away as fast as she can...or be eaten alive and tossed aside like the rest of the non-insiders.

She has no plan, no experience in world affairs, no plan other than Newt's on energy, no plan for education other than what Dobson tells her, no plan on health care, and no plan to re-build the country's infrastructure. IF the republicans want to run on the issues rather than a beauty contest the game is over, but the media still seems to be dwelling on the money teet where they're comfortable with no accountability.

If anyone looks past the smoke and mirrors and thinks of the implications these lunatics can have over our lives for generations, maybe centuries by appointing three judges on the Supreme Court to overturn most of laws from the last 50-80 years then they may think twice. But Rove is counting on everyone loosing sight of that small issue.

VERY dangerous folks.....

Defender of the Common People

Palin is trying to assume again, for the republicans, the mantle of defender of the common people. Doing it through words and half truths. Great...Obama needs to point out that it is actions, not words, that count most, and on this score the democrats win big. Also, it's great for Obama, who is accused of being just good with words, to turn the tables on the republicans on this issue and show how his record and policies speak for themselves and the republicans are the ones who try to use words to manipulate, not tell the truth.

It's good to have a ficility with words, Obama can say, but the more important thing is that you use that skill in the service of truth and good policies. Here are my policies, voters, I ask you to judge if they are the best for you. I ask you to evaluate my words in relation to my actions b ecause I think my policies are the best ones for middle class (not "common or ordinary") people.

Sometimes I hate it when I’m right

Anyone who has read anything I’ve written knows that from day 1, I said “if Obama loses this election it will be because of YOU.” The mindless, blind, juvenile, inhumane (and inhuman) sewer-slop that sick people pretended was “dialogue or opinion” is fast reaching its climactic, and inevitable, ending. “What goes around comes around,” or “Karma,” or whatever you want to call it, will not be denied. The sickness coming out of the mouths and keyboards of so many on the Left, and way too many from the Obama ideologues, will show that turning our party over to unwashed, ill mannered, and disrespectful to a mind numbing degree, neophytes will exact its pound of flesh.

You had your trial run, your shakedown cruise, in the primaries by bloodying up Hillary Clinton. Your deaf, dumb, blind hatred even shielded you from Barack Obama’s message; a message of hope, vision, and yes, change that now is in grave danger of never being realized. His mistake was in throwing under the bus all those that came before him as he didn’t want to share the victories; he wanted the stage all to himself, So he decided to go with the “youths;” the youths who weren’t exposed to history, nor social skills. The youths who would approach something as serious as an election as if they were joining a gang, or as groupies for “Brad,” or fanatical football fans. Toss in some cynical use of the “racist” tag to smear good people, and mix with a bunch of duplicitous, phony, guilt written Liberals, and BAM! We’ve got change. We changed the Democratic Party into a mutation that millions of us simply don’t recognize.

So now, a little lady from up North has set off a firestorm of panic that has left almost no (prior)sane Democrat standing. John McCain, so wrong on the issues, wrong on his temperament, wrong on his age, and whose time was yesterday….and….Sarah Palin, who at any other time in our history couldn’t possibly have been here, are in the clockwork orange position of becoming our next President and Vice President.

But a bubble is a bubble; reason, reflection, analysis, is so…..yesterday. Even a string of big losses in all the major states; states that were inhabited by traditional, “real” Democrats, couldn’t get you to put the champagne glasses down. But they weren’t champagne glasses at all; they were rose-tinted glasses, dontcha know.

So here we are; there’s still plenty of time to pull it out; but I know you, you won’t. Instead of climbing out of the hole you’ve dug for yourselves, you’ll just dig harder and faster. You split the Party in half with your treatment of Hillary, many of whom will not come back. But you had an answer for them too, didn’t you; Get in line, or get the fuck out; WE don’t need you.

Here, I’ll help you out. You know, just use the same techniques you used against Hillary in that landslide victory. Try these: “ a freaking stereotype, speech was written for her, Princess Caribou, lying politician, Creature, liar, disgraceful, sarcastic, nasty, twit, prima donna, obnoxious.” And that’s from just the first page of this thread.

Now, after you have them warmed up with those, try these sure fire winners:

1. “I'm sick of people whining about sexism” (that's the ticket!)

2. “Hillary & Sarah...thin skinned princesses” (No sexism here; all women suck)

3. “Little Trig was........ drugged” …….(my personal favorite)

4. “Any Hillary supporter who does not return to the "fold"…….(Ach Tung!, we’re into threats now, that'll work)

5.” …if Hillary had dropped out of the race when she was mathematically beaten…”………(you knew that one was coming)

And now, in case there was any doubt, or question, that I might have exaggerated my opinion on this subject, I give you the GRAND PRIZE WINNER. If anybody asks you years from now, “what went wrong?” just show them this comment, as a metaphor for who makes up the Democratic “base” today.

************************************************************************************

"I for one think this speech was a golden gift to Hillary Clinton because by clobbering Palin SHE can win back Obama supporters who will be essential if she wants to be a major power in the Democratic party going forward."

**************************************************************************************

And that's their fallback; do every stupid thing imagineable; we've always got Hillary to blame.

You can’t make this stuff up
