A pit bull in lipstick?

A snarling Sarah Palin savages Barack Obama while her defenders deride sexism and "liberal media" bias.

The letters thread is now closed.

I am proud to have defended and voted for Senator Clinton and I will be proud to defend and vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin.

It's really remarkable how many Republican trolls, pretending to be Democrats, 'supported' Hillary Clinton in the effort to undermine Obama.

You pubs couldn't win an election honestly if your lives depended on it.

Pregnant Questions

According to an Ann Kilkenny resident of Alaska and on first name terms with the Palins, Sarah Palin's pregnancy with Trig was even kept a secret from her own, Sarah's children!

Bit odd that what!

What a Day!

I've really enjoyed reading everyone's reactions to Mrs. Palin and her speech here today. what a good stew of ideas and feelings. If I'm not careful, I may broaden my horizons. So, thank you.

Oh. Isn't it interesting that the Dow fell 344 points today?

conryw thank-you for posting that link

wow. that is really informative. The assault on birth control as well as abstinence only education are extraordinarily important issues--much too important to be trivialized into personal attacks on Palin's daughter.

Also interesting for the comments in how the right blogosphere is reacting with racism--lashing out at black fathers as a response to the left blogosphere going after Palin's daughter. ugh.

How depressing that one more election--and one this important--is once again turning into a sexual culture wars freak show....

Self description written by someone else

I'll bet the sound-bite boys had a great time putting her up for that line and they're still sniggering. Here's mine: "A Bitch in war paint". Bring it on!

@Joel29028: MY VOTE IS MY VOTE!

Joel:

Yes, I was a supporter of Senator Clinton for President and the great democracy (sarcasm) made it clear as to who they wanted as the nominee.

The current democratic nominee was not nominated by the people. He was nominated by the party.

My vote is my vote. I own a real estate company and Obama is going to raise my small business taxes, my payroll taxes and the taxes of those who reap capital gains. So if you ever own real estate or stocks, you better sell them now so you're not clobbered on taxes.

Also, a simple reminder to you. MY VOTE IS MY VOTE! I CAN VOTE FOR WHOMEVER I FEEL WELL ACTUALLY HELP THIS COUNTRY.

You can read all of my posts. I am proud to have defended and voted for Senator Clinton and I will be proud to defend and vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin.

@Uncle Fester

Uncle, you are correct vis-à-vis the Nixon place mark. The days of Bob Dole, Sam Ervine, Everret Dirkson, et al are kaput. The reason?........communication. THEY had time to think, today’s are analogous to fast food. Consultants, analysts, strategists, media pros, computers, cell phone, yadda, yadda rule the roost. Also the money is exponentially greater.

But there’s something else different. It’s not just an evolutionary growth of things today being bigger and faster than yesterday. It’s like screwing around with DNA, or molecular structure; there been a sea change, or mutation from who we once were. Now you can subscribe to the conspiracy angle…..or not. We’re simply stupider (really) than we were. The conspiracy angle is, was it done on purpose?

I’m kind of 50/50 on this subject. You could say it started with R. Reagan, who presided over a precipitous drop in our educational achievements…..remember “dumming down?” The benefits of a dumb populace for the extreme Conservative Right is self evident. But my guess is that he, and “the movement” just took advantage of the inertia that really began around 1964.

Up until 1964, the education system output (output meaning high numbers of scholastic achievers vis-à-vis their international equals) went in a straight, unbroken line--------upwards. In 1964, it broke….Snap!, just like that; did a 180 and has never looked back. Not to toss out little tidbits, but you do know that American high school AND college seniors score below Bangladesh on standardized Math and Science tests. ( Please tell me I’m crazy and challenge me to a bet. I’ve almost paid off my house with that one. But other results are even scarier. (that’s for another time.)

So what happened in 1964, you might ask?.........Drumroll please….ding, dong….ding, dong we’ll be right back after a few words from our sponsors.

ANSWER…………………..1964, the year the national teachers union was formed.

Gotta run, my son’s pulling in. Need him to do some weed wacking.

Maybe we’ll pick it up at a later date.

Education is the sleeper issue, in my opinion the most important issue, and it gets no play from either side. (compulsory lip service doesn’t count. Lip service around election doesn’t count twice!)

Could we talk about something substantive? We don't need any more polemics.

Republicans avoid issues like the plague because they know most Americans are against Republican positions on the issues.

Except for Palin. Right now the pub spin doctors are hoping nobody notices that Palin is admittedly clueless on national issues, except "Democrats bad, Republicans good", which may not be enough to win.

Look, I'm an Obama supporter...

...I have a yard sign and a bumper sticker and everything. But Sarah Palin's speech last night was, objectively speaking, a good speech. She has charisma for sure, and a compelling style. She seems like a straightforward person, someone who is not afraid of anything.

Those of you who think otherwise should consider talking to people other than those who already agree with you. My non-scientific sample of friends and family who are Republicans, conservative and/or religious are very intrigued by Sarah Palin. They were uncertain before the speech but now see her as a confident fighter who won't back down.

As for the VP debate, that's Biden's to lose. All Sarah Palin has to do is not be an idiot and she's golden. And I think that Sarah Palin is no idiot.

Go for the jugular vein

Her speech reminded me of a catty teenager. It was light on policy and long on vicious attacks. Because so many made a big issue of Hillary and sexism, which was over blown, the republicans are going to try and say any attack on her is sexism.

Listen I'm a woman, I'm a feminist. As long at you hit her on issues, I see no reason why not to hit her hard. If you want to be treated equally then you should take it equally. I say cut her off at the knees. Paline is an extremist on many issues.

Republicans to cry sexism. What a crock. Denying women's right to reproductive choices is sexist.

The biggest stupidity of the evening. Saying Hillary got 18 million vote and Obama only got 18 million (which is a bold faced LIE). There still trying to promote divisions among Democrats that does not exist. The majority of those 17,000 that voted for Hillary will be voting for Obama, plus a lot of pro-choice republican & independent women.

This republican team will turn us into a third rate country.
