Obama's perfect pitch on Palin

The nominee was right to warn Democrats against making Bristol Palin an issue. The issue is John McCain's judgment.

The letters thread is now closed.

Obama is a Class Act

Obama is a stand up guy.

On the streets he is someone you can count on.

He knows what matters and what is noise

Of course he knows he can make political points but stand up guys do what is right.

Now, he will listen to falsehoods and give people a chance to correct them.

But when push comes to shove, Obama will deliver the necessary punch as he did during

his acceptance speech.

If the Republicans were cut from the same cloth they would compliment him.

He doesn't expect it or want it.

He has his own inner compass.

He is not arrogant, but knows right from wrong and will stand up.

As much as he is an advocate for change, his values are formed by his grandfather who stood up for the country when there was a real need.

It is time for America to stand up for Barack so we can have a stand up guy in the White House.

Would somebody do some fact checking? (I mean you, Joan Walsh)

You give space, and therefore credibility, to Palin's claim of being a great administrator.

She was so good that the City Council in Wasilla hired an administrator while she was mayor.

She was so good she (the hockey mom) pushed through a sports facility (using up the city's bonding capacity) on grounds it would pay for itself. It hasn't - doesn't - won't - and the failure to provide infrastructure in the form of sewage treatment gets worse.

And - she favored sales taxes over real property taxes, meaning her wealthier constituents (the ones who commute to Anchorage, and buy things there, where there is no sales tax [call me on this one, I dare you - I live in Anchorage] escape the burden imposed on those with less mobility.

And for once I have to agree with Peggy Noonan and her talking head buddies: Palin's nomination was truly "bullshit" and "cynical"

Why hasn't Walsh called Noonan on this? Professional courtesty among sharks?

My Dear Joan Walsh

I never posted on Kos cause I passed out at page 302 of his 600, or so, pages of instructions.

Is there an "Open Salon for Dummies" link somewhere?

But since my favorist person on the Net asked, I shall do my very best.

Thank you for asking.

You allude to one very important point: "Country First" McCain values this nation so highly that he is willing to appoint a completely unqualified individual as his hypothetical successor. This "maverick" made a craven and cynical decision, completely kowtowing the extremes within his own party. Someone who aspires to be the Leader of the Free World could not even exhibit sufficient leadership to pick the person he wanted as Vice President.

Mindblowing, if you stop and think about it...

Judgement is an issue, honesty also, in our leaders.

Let's just look at facts. No one, not her closest friends or her staff, had any idea that Sarah Palin was pregnant until she announced she was 7 months along. She had not worn different clothes and her own comment was 'I thought someone would notice my clothes were getting snug'. She has had 4 children before and let me tell you, you show earlier and get bigger with every subsequent child. There is a picture circulating of Sarah Palin late in an earlier pregnancy, and she is absolutely HUGE.

For the same time period, (co-incidence?) her oldest daughter was missing from school due to 'mononucleosis' for FIVE months. Mono is nasty but NO ONE EVER is too sick to work or go to school for more than a few weeks. If someone stayed ill that long, they should have been in the hospital for extensive tests because it must be something else much more serious. Why didn't she hospitalize her daughter?!

There is a picture circulating of the family noted as Dec. 2007 where Sarah looks slim and trim, but Bristol in that picture has the look of a teenage girl with a definite circular baby bump. NOT fat, pregnant. That family picture has been removed as well as others from the Governor's website. And then when you went back to look at the picture 'circa 2006' was ADDED. Why?

Bristol received a traffic ticket during a minor accident in Feb. when she was supposed to be sick with terrible mono at home. Her name did appear on the internet website (small state, they list all the traffic stops), but sometime after that her name was removed from the ticket posting on the internet. It now simply states the ticket was given to a ' 17 year old'. Why?

Sarah Palin was in Texas in April when she told managers of this Governor's meeting that she was going to give her speech but needed an earlier flight back to Alaska because her amniotic fluid was 'leaking'. This is a red flag! The baby was supposedly a month early (but weighed over 6 lbs!), she knew it had Downs, yet she gives her speech, says there was some labor pains, but still gets on a plane with a change of planes I believe in Seattle, and makes the 10-12 hour trip. Instead of getting to a hospital prepared to take care of a preemie, she drives a couple of hours home to her local Medical Center (no NICU unit). WHY would any women with a brain in her head, in premature labor, and having experienced previous childbirth, get on a plane for a trip of 10 hours plus? By all accounts of the crew she did not even appear pregnant, certainly not distressed! Her answer was she did not believe it was 'active labor'. Well, it could have BEEN very active 30 minutes into the flight! It makes NO sense, except that her daughter was in labor back in Alaska and she was going home to complete this coverup by taking the baby home as hers. Notice all the pictures at the press conference.. not Daddy holding baby, not Sarah.. only Bristol!

Three days later Sarah is back at work, introducing this child to everyone as hers, perky, no complaints, totally normal. Supposedly she was breast feeding and using a breast pump? So who was taking care of this child at home while Sarah worked? Bristol? If there is any 17 year old girl who would not have a problem with this scenario, I have not met her. I totally believe that either her daughter went to see the boyfriend she had not been allowed to see for 5 months while she was hidden away - and proceeded to immediately get pregnant again (the most fertile time of a woman's life)! Trigg was born on 4-18 but the medical center has no record of his birth. WHY? Supposedly Bristol is 5 months pregnant? We are only juggling 2 weeks here! Very big co-incidence!

This young couple is going to get married? Why haven't they gotten married already? Sarah had no idea she was picked for VP till last week. What was holding up the marriage of her pregnant daughter? Where IS Trigg's birth certificate? WHY didn't she go to a hospital in Texas! Many questions left!

My problem with the woman is IF she was in labor and got on the plane, leaking fluid, that is TERRIBLE TERRIBLE JUDGEMENT. Stupid, actually! And, IF she was willing to put so much time and energy to make up this story and pretend to be pregnant for a month and then pretend to be in labor (no one on the plane even thought she 'looked' pregnant, much less in labor) and all this done for her political future in Alaska obviously, since she had no idea about the VP - and perhaps to cover up the absolute failure of 'abstinence only' so she could continue to leave other young girls in the dark by not allowing sex ed in high school, etc., - and is CONTINUING to keep up the lie on the national stage (what IS this doing to her poor daughter!), there is something VERY WRONG WITH HER JUDGEMENT and she is underestimating the intelligence of the American people! NOT a stable personality that this country needs in leadership. Judgement also includes knowing one's own limits! She judges herself with all that is going on in her family 'ready' to be leader of the free world? Judgement? Putting country FIRST? No, this is all greed and ambition.

Think about John McCain's judgement for picking someone who is so inexperienced. Country first? He really is willing to leave us with HER facing down Iran or Russia or China, willing to leave her to fix the economy? THAT is putting country first? Or, if he is dead and gone I guess he figures 'what the he-ll'.
