Yeah, Bill Clinton made remarks that I thought were not too bright or sharp, but I don't believe the dude is a racist deep down in his heart.
He had oral sex with someone who wasn't his spouse. It was absolutely no one's business but the Clinton familys' and the woman involved.
If the Democrats had stood up and defending his record instead of fleeing from the hypocritical religious right things would have been very different.
And it was Gore's boneheaded decision not to use Bill Clinton in states where Clinton was popular that cost him the election.
AKA Smith wrote: "For all those assholes who called me a racist in argument here at Salon, I have two words for you: Cynthia McKinney."
This election has really made me believe that some whites are more preoccupied about being called a racist than actually acknowledging and fighting racism itself. It's like people hear the word "racism" and "you" in the same sentence and they go bananas. There is definitely a difference between being "racist" and saying something that is "racist." But the paranoia clouds the brain and people can't see the distinction. Also, I am not using AKA Smith's statement in an accusatory way. Just observational as her comment exemplifies what I am talking about.
And P.S., Joan it's unfortunate that your feeling are hurt, but please don't expect any sympathies. As a person of color who actually has experienced racism in a tangible way, excuse me for not crying a river that someone may have called you and other white people racist.
Here's the link for the Obama is the antichrist McCain ad article at Time.

We know that sexism falls on a scale anywhere between a and z with people falling generally on the points between.
Doesn't "racism" fall along a similar scale?
I understand that you're real Clinton proud, but remove that shroud, because this election is no longer all about them now.
We actually get real news in some parts of the world. There's been a military strike against this country which is on the Black Sea and was once part of the USSR. It seems that Georgia wants to break away from the Russian Federation and Medvedev/Putin are showing their displeasure. There's a general impression in Europe that Americans are self-absorbed and only realise that other countries exist when they're bossing them all about the place.
Faulkner jr., unlikely to be related to the famous novelist, I'm well able to recognise the tactic of damning with faint praise. As for smoking, I still smoke a few cigarettes just like Obie but that's all that I've ever smoked. I wasn't moping around searching for "my identity".
I also want to point out, what for me, reinforced this negative strategy in a most disastrous way. I wrote about it twice in Salon. It was the openly hostile threats of Douglas Wilder, Donna Brazile and others as to the havoc that would be wreaked upon the Democratic Convention if the super delegates would dare to vote for Hillary Clinton in the event that Barack Obama had slightly more elected delegates, even though that is the role of the superdelegates, and even though the primaries are a very flawed system, and even though the race was very close, and even though Hillary Clinton had more momentum at the end of the process. If Bill Clinton, and to a lesser degree, Hillary Clinton had not been weakened by impugning their civil rights records, this complementary tactic would have had much less force.
Wha-wha-wha? Wilder, Brazile and the like (and believe it or not, there were White people saying the same thing, such as Nancy Pelosi) were saying that the superdelegates should reflect the will of the voters, and that whomever had the most primary delegates at the end should be the nominee. How is that "hostile"? Yes, the primaries are a flawed system, however, it was the system that we had, and the one which all of the candidates agreed to participate in. To moan and whine about the flaws because they worked against you isnt constructive, and I fail to see how winning the Democratic nomination makes Obama "arrogant". Are you using "arrogant" in the place of "uppity", perhaps?
You are right about one thing: If Bill and Hillary hadn't made a series of stupid and insensitive comments during the primary, that would've definitely helped their chances.
At least you used one of my favorite Who songs as your nom de post...
I know. Where's all the proactivity against racism, it's been replaced by this kind of inert defensivity.
For promising me to give me your full attention once Russia has stopped attacking Georgia. Hopefully, when you do that, you'll also be able to tell me what that has to do with anything I said...
...you've GOT to stop holding out on us. That must be some incredible stuff you're partaking of...
I'm a mere yank and I even know the capitol of Georgia (the country) which is Tiblisi!
What do I win?
He had oral sex with someone who wasn't his spouse. It was absolutely no one's business but the Clinton familys' and the woman involved.
That's ridiculous and you know it. When you are the leader of the free world, having oral sex in the White House with someone whom is not your spouse, and then initially lying about is, is not a simple private matter that the public, will, or should ignore. Should it have been an impeachable offense? Probably not, but it was still a denigration of the highest office in the land. One can think Bill was, overall, a good President and still frown upon his moral choices.
You win a lovely prize package worth...not much of anything if another Republican gets elected because we Dems cant stop rehashing the primary long enough to wake up...
You're one of my favorite posters. Keep up the good stuff.
May you soar like a hawk.
