You too are a pretty unknown quantity, but if I were to guess I'd say you were of the PUMA variety.
Wow! Your post was like a breath of fresh air in this smog filled land of Obama. I am happy to see that some of us are paying attention to one of the most amazing scams that I have ever seen. This whole section was well said. I guess he really is the “Magic Negro.”
“Obama is riding black people, slavery, Jim Crow, lynching, the black codes, current racism, and now the undermining of potential remedies for future racist incidents to the White House. I hope all of my naive fellow blacks and their progressive white accomplices to this atrocity are proud.
If any of you Obama groupies have a shred of humanity or concern for real black people, consider my plea: stop saying that everything is racist, because there will be a time when this black woman works in a field that, like most, reserves advancement to white men, has to fight for pay parity, the right to an earned promotion, or just basic equality because she was denied it because of the color of her skin. Your beloved Obama and you, his lemmings, keep this up, my options for justice will be nil.”
And.. the concern trolls have taken over. Time to close this one up, Ms Walsh.
Obama's "the magic negro" and I'm not even braggin', maureen odonnell says, that I'm Klytus the Komodo dragon.
Now that we've got everybody in their right and proper place, can we just continue on in civility, with this continueing presidential race?
Joan - excellent coverage of the argument.
McNegative is not going to stop, especially with harassment specialist Davis on his team.
I am a white guy yet it seems so obvious McNegative is doing a scorched earth strategy that is to put that uppity strange named guy back in his place and keep him and his kind out of the White House.
3 years ago McNegative gave the junior senator a tongue lashing in the senate for not following McNegatives 'orders'.
How many uppity word synonyms/messages can we find.
risky = uppity
arrogant = uppity
elitist = uppity
presumptuous = uppity
the one = uppity
you get the point.
People keep saying McNegative isn't on message. I beg to differ.
Uppity is the one and only message.
because I think BO did "play the race card" a tiny bit here, in the way that I think he has mostly avoided thus far. I think he was definitely referring to race when he mentioned the men on the dollar bills (but felt he had to deny it). But it's complicated:
- HRC played the gender card regularly and openly all during the primary when she constantly referred to being a woman, breaking glass ceilings, etc. Jokes about having to put more into getting ready with makeup, etc., were all part of her schtick. And Lieberman talked at times about his historic role as potentially the first Jew as VP, etc. When Obama talks about his "story" being unique--"nowhere but in America"--he's obviously making reference to his race, too.
So is this actually considered "playing the race card"? I thought that was more about accusing someone else of racism when they don't commit it. Isn't that playing the race card?
- Even so, I felt that BO was better for not relying on race the way HRC relied on gender during the primary. I guess I don't think he should make these references. I'm torn on this. I didn't think it was wrong for HRC to do it; I just thought it helped him in some way to be "post-racial."
- McCain could do the same thing regarding the old theme, but of course he's chosen not to. I don't blame him, as it wouldn't sell well. A problem for him, no doubt. All of which reminds me that BO and fans are doing a good job of not making McCain's age an issue (unless I've missed some scuttlebutt lately)
- I can't resist this: It's funny for me to hear you complaining about the he said/she said back-and-forth about the race card being played. It's all so very familiar to me and I assume it's been said somewhere in these threads that your column played a big part in that dynamic. Truth be told, and at the risk of being divisive myself, I can't help but regret HRC's role in propagandizing the right for this particular line of attack, along with the messianic and fawning celeb ads. I feel like she dropped the breadcrumbs right to this very place.
and if someone hasn't already pointed this out:
With all due respect, the issue of arrogance has been thrown at the Democratic candidates for lots of years now. Both Gore and Kerry in recent memory were accused of being out of touch with the common people (themes of wind sailing, being French, etc.) and longer ago it was Bill Bradley and Michael Dukakis and many others. That the Dem candidate is accused of being elitist is par for the course coming from Republicans. That he's black just makes it kind of ironic, that's all. Coming from a fellow Dem in the primary (HRC), the charge was more unusual and, imo, inappropriate.
You had to be prodded into saying something good about your country. Then you came up with a list of nonentities such as crooner Bing Crosby (When Irish Eyes are Smiling) and a scabrous comedian Lenny Bruce who was banned from appearing in the UK because of indecency.
You didn't even get the joke when I said "America had a lucky escape" so you come across as some earnest ("The Importance of Being Earnest") clotpoll who needs everything spelled out as obliqueness is beyond you. If you imagine that you're very intelligent, good for you. I wouldn't, of course, suggest that you look out the window to see if "the men in white coats" are coming up your driveway. To have the approbation of Klytus the Klown is the gold-standard for intellectual acuity.
American "culture"? Hollywood, Jerry Springer, Judge Judy, the Oprah Show............Oh, goodness gracious, I AM impressed. The French Premier, Clemenceau, once said that the United States was the only known case of a nation going from barbarism to decadence without passing through civilisation. Maybe he had a point as decadence seems to be the salient feature of American "culture" to an outside observer when so many of your fello-citizens are enamoured with "American Idol" and seem incapable of stringing a few sentences together without referring to defecation, urination or something else equally charming. You will not engage with me again because I'm not a brain-box like you? After all, you do have a sense of humour, even if it's a sour one.
