Congratulalions Joan,
I think you may have got it right for the first time in quite a while! I will take exception to one thing though, the worst thing that can happen to a Black man in this country is to be overtly or even subtly linked with any white woman. In all of my 79+ years this has always been the case. Proof of the pudding is the neurotic denial of intent by Davis and McCain.
Hopefully, you were joking, but in case you werent, that was McCain's campaign that put out the "messiah" ad, not Obama's.
Faulkner...I stand corrected. I just saw on MSNBC that it was McCain's ad. Either way, those who do see Obama as "the One", the Messiah, I still think it's blasphemous. Pegster
………it weren’t for its people." After all these years, I finally get it.
Barack Obama would be a shoo-in, if it weren’t for his supporters.

Now let's have a debate.
there is a lot of confusion in the world and one thing we can count on is that we all misunderstand each other and deep down inside i know that maureen knows that it
could not be the germanic sense of humor which agrees with her and i sat down and
meditated and as being american german french and one big part american indian
i decided it is the indian part of me whos shows the humor and the tolerance to hug
maureen but i have to agree with you and the 'german' and american side of me is
unable to laugh about everything you mentioned at the end of your letter - but i
can smile about the way a thread like this is dealing with these issues - its sometimes
thoughtful - sometimes serious but most of the times absurd and absolutely hillarious -
thats why i love to hug maureen - even she is not to fond of my hero Obama - but lets
banter he will be elected anyway and thats all what counts - right?
I've yet to encounter anyone quite that zealous. I do think Obama would make a pretty cool Neo, though Agent Smith would probably give him a hard time over the ears. It'd actually be quite funny to hear Agent Smith derisively hiss, "Miss-ter Obama". Barack's kinda skinny, so he'd have to figure out the Matrix a lot quicker than Keanu did, or he's toast. Plus, he's got that law-professor side, so he might get caught up musing about the constitutionality of the Matrix whilst Morpheus and Trinity are in the background screaming, "will you hurry up???"
Oh, and if Obama becomes Neo...NO WAY you can have a White chick as Trinity!
If you "stand corrected," then why did you continue your major error by using the subject line "Obama's Ad"? On what planet would the Obama camp have to be living on to have produced this ad????? Of course it's intended to be blasphemous. DUH! So, blame the source of the ad. Read today's Salon article by Conason + comments. I'm sure you'll find something useful there.
Obama really IS the Messiah and please spread the word because we need all these whacky religious freaks especially on the so called right side.
It does rather seem as if many of Obama's supporter's are working for McCain. I've actually wondered if there aren't some people running around being offensive and pretending to be Obama supporter's, but some of the more offensive ones I've seen are people who were known to me as Progressives before the election.
"the worst thing that can happen to a Black man in this country is to be overtly or even subtly linked with any white woman. In all of my 79+ years this has always been the case. Proof of the pudding is the neurotic denial of intent by Davis and McCain."
Actually, the worst thing that can happen to a black man in this country is to be convicted of a crime he didn't commit because some witness couldn't tell one black man from another. There are a lot of black/white couples in America. They are uncommon enough that they often receive comment, and probably frowns from some people, but they are hardly freakish anymore. Example: Tiger Woods is not ostracized, even though his marriage was heavily commented upon. Many black sports and music stars married white women without controversy.
nobody seems to know anymore who works for whome - you might have been one of the best recruters for Obama on this blog and you even don't know it.
"Obama is scary b/c of his history and record. That it is a record of left wing affinities and fringe associations with kook anti-American Reverends, unrepentant terrorist bombers, Marxist Professors and PLO officials cannot be dismissed or discounted."
Oh how I wish this was true. I SO wish we could have a president how was a full on left leaning fringe kook. I for one believe what the Rev. Wright said was right. I wish there were more radicals out there and more people willing to speak the truth about what they see happening in this country. Sadly, those who do get skewered by those too afraid to hear anything other than the status quo when it comes to this country. Dissent IS patriotic. Obama is no radical- he's about as straight down the middle as they come.
one black man from another - i only have problems with my white guys - they somehow all look the same.
And it's ridiculous to give that as a reason to not vote for someone. Guess what, there's jerks in every group of people. So your left with a choice. Decide who will best serve your belief system, Obama or McCain. If Obama, then support him and try to contact his campaign if you disagree with any of his positions instead of trashing him in an internet forum. Do the same with McCain if you decide that he's the one for you, but don't try to say that you're a progressive, Dem or liberal if you vote for him. Or support a third party candidate, if that's your wish, but should you do so, remember that right now any third party isn't very viable. Sorry, that's reality. And you'll have to live with the result. But most people will blame the candidate for not being everything they wanted and exciting them while someone like Dubya plays his little king game, destroying our environment, economy, contitution and our ability to live with other nations.
For those of you that want to diminish the very real effect of racism that continues in this country, then you aren't paying attention. Speak with a minority and ask them if they don't still encounter some sort of prejudice daily. Try to live with that and not have even the slightest amount of heightened sensitivity to something that can be construed as racist. Especially, as in the case of most blacks, when your parents, grandparents and on down the line lived in fear of death and/or imprisonment at the hands of someone that held hate for them just due to their skin color. Imagine growing up and listening to your family recounting instances of those type of experiences. That probably would have some effect on your perceptions, wouldn't it. It might make you think that someone is making your race an issue when they are acting the same way other racists have acted. Make no mistake, racism is alive in this country and this world.
