Betrayed by Obama

The Democrat's FISA sellout is unforgivable, but he's counting on supporters having no place else to go. And McCain's nutty neocon Iran talk helps him make his case.

The letters thread is now closed.

AKA

So your have read it, the new FISA bill, then tell me how many days does the Attorney General and the Intelligence Agency have before FISA court Overview under the new FISA bill? It' not the president who does the spying.

@FedUpMom

Re: "At the risk of sounding woefully ignorant, does anyone know what rule(s) would stop superdelegates (or any delegates for that matter) switching their vote to hillary at the convention and shifting the nomination to her?"

I don't think there are any. The superdelegates can vote for anybody they want. The ones who come from districts that voted for Hillary could possibly be persuaded.

I don't know if this is true, but I have read that Obama is trying to block the traditional roll call vote at the convention, so that none of the superdelegates can switch.

Congrats on saying the obvious, Joan....

even though you're going to catch hell from the Obama acolytes. Considering that he taught Constitutional Law, Obama apparently now thinks that the fourth amendment is passe. I'm from Massachusetts, so I don't have to worry about McCain winning here and can write in a name of someone who believes what they say. Thankfully you and Greenwald exist.

Learning Curve!

I love this country. God knows I do, but this country has a learning curve when it comes to picking presidents. Look how long it took for people to start to even question Obama on anything. But, now it seems like everyone is complaining about his integrity. I can’t help but get a kick out of all of this, and I am sure that Hillary is laughing as well. But, if you still think Obama was the best choice, then you still don’t get it.

The Answer:

You have been led astray!

The morning after

The Obama followers sound like someone who wakes up after a one night stand and complains they thought it was "true love". Once he got what he wanted he moved on, you were good enough to get the nomination but now he wants to get the big prize.

The thing about selling out is it becomes addictive, you don't know where to stop just ask John McCain. It isn't that the liberal left has no alternative but Obama and the conservative right has no place to go but McCain it is that those of us in the moderate middle are stuck with these two Bozos. Third party candidates are a joke at this time. So pull up your socks and the rest of your clothes and realize it was never about you it was always and only about them.

AKASmith in reference to G. Greenwald - "I don't even know if he's a democrat."

Hell Smith, I don't even know if YOU'RE a democrat!

Why all the hero worship for Glenn? One attorney's analysis of FISA is not Godly. Does Glenn has some cases pending this Telcom issue?

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 08:10 PM

@ bernbart

The new FISA bill does NOT allow warrant less wiretaps without FISA court over sight. Have you read the new FISA law? The amendments that got defeated were all about the telecom immunity.

No. It's worse as I understand it because it doesn't demand that the president bring probable cause before beginning to spy upon people. He has a certain number of days to spy with impunity before he has to show cause.

i can understand Obama, what i can't understand is the senate

this empowers the would-be president, presumably obama. you'd think that the other senators would vote like clinton, jealous of their power. at least that's how the founding fathers saw it. separation of powers. each attempting to invade the others territory. it's similar to our adversarial court system. we could have had it like europe, with three judges, but that's not our way. i was angry at obama though, for lying. yes, it happens but i was mad. so i want to thank the rest of you for erasing that anger. thinking of you getting your way made it so repulsive, i just said to myself, it's obama or the hellish hillafreaks - GObama!

You are right, but Iraq is the only important issue

If Obama sticks with his plan, and pulls back from Iraq, it will have been worth voting for him. On other issues, neither has a darn clue.

And if Obama reneges on Iraq, it's no worse than McCain.

Extremely disappointing that Obama has developed the tin ear and the superstar-can-do-no-wrong-kiss-my-ring attitude so early in the process. It is like voting for Tony Orlando just because he is slightly less obviously ridiculous than Tiny Tim.

Values, or nothing

Liberty, or death. I don't give a crap for those who defend Obama. He abdicated, he whiffed, he pussed-out, whatever you want to call it. He showed a lack of sincerity, which I cannot forgive. I say this to the many defenders of Obama - FU - you are supporting someone who does not support the simple principle of - liberty, or death. So what are you in fact, supporting. We had it better when the Dems were in the minority and at least tried to fight the Repugs. Do you not realize that it is worse with the Dems in power - amazing as it is for me to say this, but I believe it - do you NOT REALIZE THE ABSOLUTE BETRAYAL OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF ITS OWN CONSTITUENTS AND PRINCIPLES. I wonder if we are headed to a new revolution. Let's use that word - revolution - more.

@ rnostbakken: Oh, good grief!

Do you not understand that what you quoted was from back when he said he would filibuster telecom immunity? Today, he betrayed that promise. There was nothing wrong with the FISA court. It's been around forever. What Obama did today, weakens FISA and strengthens the executive branch.

He will clean it when he is president and has a governing majority.

I hope you are being sarcastic here. Otherwise, I must ask you this: Based upon what evidence are you making this assumption because what Obama did today should make you doubt that. Why do you assume that a man who cannot take a strong stand today will suddenly be strong after he is elected? Character is just not that mutable. Obama is showing us that we cannot trust his promises about something that is really important. This is much worse than pandering on a temporary gas tax repeal.

I just don't get why folks hang this on Barak.

Ooooh. Poooor Barack. We must hold him to his promises or make him responsible for his own freely made decisions? No one was holding a gun to his head. What do think? Hillary Clinton made him do it?

Everyone including our hero Glenn Greenwald think they own him.

It isn't a matter of owning him. It is a matter of his own apparent betrayal of what he stated in the past to be his principles. I guess that makes him unprincipled.

This bill does not waive criminal liability.

Bush has the power to issue blanket pardons for any potential criminal liability. The president isn't allowed to excuse civil liability. Why do you think that Bush did not ask for a pardon of criminal liability? He knows he doesn't need it. However, I wonder if he wanted the immunization for civil liability because it would be during the discovery process that those suing telecoms would have their best shot at finding out what sort of spying actually went on and whether or not it violated current FISA law.

Make Glenn Greenwald attorney general.

Nah. I don't know where he stands on Roe v. Wade. I don't even know if he is a Democrat.
