You mean you don't believe Walsh's wishy washy statement that she "admires Obama?" How could this be?
Maybe I missed something, but back in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, it seemed Obama was not running as a progressive, liberal, leftist, what you will, but as someone beyond the labels dividing our politics. I would have thought that meant taking principled positions that people on both sides could find merit in, even if they didn't agree. I happen to believe opposition to partial birth abortions (late term, third trimester) what you will, is exactly one of those postions. But that's exactly what makes the FISA capitulation so disappointing and, yes, unforgiveable. True conservatives and true progressives can agree, it seems to me, on the plain meaning of the fourth amendment and the urgent necessity of defending it. The only reason for supporting the neocon postion is the kind of cynical politics in which HRC has always specialized and Obama claimed he would transcend. There may be differences aplenty between Obama and McCain, but those between Obama and HRC have disappeared. He has proven himself her match for poltical insincerity and machination. And since I would never vote for her under any circumstances, my reasons for supporting him, which I did in the Illinois primary, have disappeared as well.
I'm amazed at how many letters are from people for whom, when you look back at their posts, were never supporting Obama, but now claim that his FISA vote "was the last straw" or some other such statement. Take Joan for instance; she has never had anything good to say about Obama, but now she's suddenly betrayed. If anything, Obama voting the he did gives her more ammo, and she can keep on with this resentment indefinitely.
I think blame for FISA needs to be shared. This was not the Obama FISA bill, and it's not a bill that passed with Obama's vote as tie breaker. His yes would not have prevented it's passage. Still, it's a knock he deserves, but it doesn't change my vote one bit. McCain is not an alternative, and neither is Nader, who is a completely ineffectual candidate. I'll take my chances with Obama any day or McCain.
It would help if Obama had a real plan
A real plan for what?
Energy? Health care? Global warming? Job creation? The mideast? You may not agree with him on everything, but he has a plan for these things and more.
Iran just recently test fired a new missle, however president Ahmad-I-Need-a-Job of Iran DID NOT I repeat DID NOT fire ANY missles at Israel today, yesterday, the day before yesterday, or as long ago as a month, to a hundered years ago. Please pay attention to what's REALLY happening on the planet before you decend into a pit dumb dellusion.
Why did Joan Walsh throw this in? Is she reading Obama's mind? Does she really think Obama is stupid enough (after the left's defection to Nader in 2000) that purists won't take their ball and go home?
She doesn't like Obama, she never has. She's still upset that Obama thwarted Hillary's coronation. So what does she do? Throws red meat to folks who are honestly upset about Obama's FISA vote. Gas on the fire to get people even more upset. "Obama thinks I have no where else to go? Well, I'll show him!!" Never mind that it isn't Obama who thinks this. It's Joan Walsh channeling Obama.
When I read Greenwald, I understand his honest criticisms of Obama. But Walsh? It's just one more way to stick it to Obama for daring to oppose Hillary Clinton.
Peace!
I wonder if Joan would be feel the same way if Hillary were the nominee and voted yes. Some how I think not.
This is a tough one, and I don't like either one of these guys. That is why I'm waiting to see who will be the VP. It would help if Obama had a real PLAN! But, the American people never required that from him.
About that roll call rumor..somebody's been blowing smoke up your ass.
Iran firing a missile at Israel is a no brainer.
Here's the question that matters:
Iran test fires a missle that can hit Israel. Do we preemptively attack Iran, blockade and isolate Iran (driving gas to 10 bucks a gallon), or do we open up a dialog with Iran and ease back on the tension in the Middle East. I'll give you 1 guess where McCain will lead the country and our over-stretched military.
That's why this election matters.
With all the self-righteous indignation and outright rage being expressed in many of these letters, you'd think this was a white-hot national story.
It isn't. Not by a longshot.
Check the front page of all the news sites ... nowhere is it the lead story, and it's barely even mentioned on some.
This matters only to political junkies, particularly the lefty intelligentsia. Yes, it's unfortunate that when most Americans hear FISA, they think of the drug company ... but it's reality, and reality is not changing between now and November.
Obama is not a dumb cookie, and nor is his staff. You think they didn't know they would get this reaction from the Ivory Tower? You think he wasn't fully aware of the consequences of his decision?
Yes, hold his feet to the fire and express your concerns. Tell him why you are enraged. But don't cut off your nose to spite your face by turning on him.
Cindy Sheehan sent out an email asking for a $19.84 donation today.
How Orwellian!

Strangely, I was in an unusually giving mood today.
She is running as an independent to unseat ol' impeachment off the table.

There are other options than the corporately owned Dems and Reps.
We all better HOPE that Obama knows more than he is letting on. I hope he is able to learn from the on the job training. For example, Mr. President Iran just fired a missle at Isreal. What should we do now?
