Betrayed by Obama

The Democrat's FISA sellout is unforgivable, but he's counting on supporters having no place else to go. And McCain's nutty neocon Iran talk helps him make his case.

The letters thread is now closed.

@ Alkaline

Because I couldn't resist an opportunity to use the word fluffing.

I Have A Place To Go

And am deciding whether to vote Green or Libertarian.

For it is more than apparent that the DemocRATS are useless.

AnnieW, what makes you think the other devil is any different?

Obama is so busy throwing progressives under the bus, and women, and rights, and backtracking from his stance on getting out of Iraq, that he ought to buy a whole fleet of used Greyhounds.

I don't give a flying leap through a rolling doughnut what McCain "wants" or doesn't want. A president can't do anything without the congress. If a Dem congress won't stand up to McCain, they surely won't stand up to Obama. Take the "fear John McCain" argument and flush it into the septic tank with all the other crap. I ain't buying it.

@AKA Smith

Strange. I could have sworn you liked using the word "bitch" better.

Sadly...

This is one time I agree with Joan Walsh.

Obama could have done a hell of a lot more and really could have demonstrated leadership and courage. Instead he demonstrated weakness and lack of vision.

Sure, I'll still vote for Obama. But he's not getting much money from me. On the other hand, actual patriots like Feingold and Dodd will be getting occasional amounts.

You admired him?

For what?

The Three Faces of FISA: Obama, Hillary and McCain

Michelle Bernard's comment in response to Joan Walsh on Hardball with Chris Matthews regarding the FISA bill couldn't be more off target. She acknowledged people's ligitimate "need" to have privacy. It's not about NEED, it's a RIGHT acknowledged by the 4th Amendment. The original FISA bill could have been amended by a few paragraphs to account for the change in technology. Citizens concerned about the NEW FISA law are being framed as LEFT. Since when has it been considered LEFT to recognize the Constitution and it's limits on government as regards the freedom and rights of citizens? Joan is right on!

Obama's vote for the FISA bill is so wrong, especially from a "constiltutional lawyer."

Oops! Hillary must have had a bad moment(sarcasm), she voted against the FISA bill. McCain couldn't find the time to vote! McCain was probablly too busy taking credit for the Veteran's Bill. Are we in Rome yet?

Flat tire

I think Obama is going to wake up tomorrow and find that he has let the enthusiasm out of his campaign. From now on, he's obviously just another politician who says and does what he thinks is needed to win.

I unsubscribed from his mailing list today. I won't be making any more contributions. If he's going to vote the way the lobbyists want, then let the lobbyists foot the bill for his campaign. I'd be an idiot to foot the bill for them.

Obam is a progressive NOT a far leftie

I have kept very close track of Obama's positions on the issues since the primary began. I down loaded his 60 page position paper during the IA campaign and often refer to it when I here the media pundits and bloggers accusing Obama of moving to the center. He has not. I respect him for refining his positons, but refining is not moving to the center. What I find amusing is McCain campaign using his refinements as flip flops, when no one has flip flopped more than McCain.

1. Obama opposed the SC late term ban. Obama he believes late term abortion should be allowed for severe health reasons. His comments were parsed so much. If you listened to his entire conversation it is easy to understand that he doe sot believe abortions should be performed for casual reasons late term and they never have been. He dis not mean serious mental health situations.

2. He has NOT cahnged his positon on Iraq at all.

3. He did change his positon on immunity for telecoms. However the new FISA bill does NOT allow warrant less wire taps going forward. The AG and Intelligence agencies must go through the FISA court, and the congress has right to review these case every 6 months. Frankly I think only the far lefties care about the retro-telcom immunity. Obama has always made it clear that he believes in compromise. As far as Hillary's vote. Who know what game she is playing. We already know she is firmly in the center.

Defeatocrats

Salon is starting to depress me. Obama's vote was meaningless but it insulated him from a "weak on terrorism" charge that would be repeated over and over on TV.

The Republicans have no idea how to attack him on national security. They are trying with the "lack of experience" arguement, but that arguement falls flat when their candidate voted for and supports the disastrous while Obama came out against the war.

Obama was smart not to give them ammunition, and after the grueling campaign of John "I voted for it before I voted against it" Kerry, Obama's keen political skill is a breath of fresh air.

Snark

Bernbart has drunk so much koolaid that she's bursting through walls while yelling, "Oh, Yeah!"

Guess it is hard to face the facts when you're a true believer in hope and change.

I just hope she doesn't spend too much time waiting for her Unity Pony to be delivered.

Perhaps, but he has given them even more powerful ammunition in its place: No matter what Obama promises, McCain can counter him by pointing out his failure to live up to his promise on FISA.

Congratulations, Joan.

You finally got to write an article criticizing Obama that even many Obama supporters will be forced to agree with.

I never thought that Senator Obama was a "progressive leader" either, but still, I never expected him to fall this far this fast in my eyes. I'm disappointing in his vote for this law because obviously it's a horrible law. But what also disturbs me is the Senators inability to correctly read the political winds. This issue really riles people up, in particular in his own party, and he's just slapped all those people in the face. He's also completely thrown his credibility out the window by flip flopping on such an important issue. And for what, the political calculation that this will somehow inoculate him from criticism later on? Good luck with that one, Senator.
