Betrayed by Obama

The Democrat's FISA sellout is unforgivable, but he's counting on supporters having no place else to go. And McCain's nutty neocon Iran talk helps him make his case.

The letters thread is now closed.

Yes we can

I had been alternating Obama and Nader stickers on the back window of my car, having a bit of fun with my own flip-flopping. I won't be alternating any more.

It really grates that both Hillary Clinton and McCain were right about Obama - that he's a great speaker, but his words are empty. Like millions of others, I wanted him to be the real deal. Engaging in willing suspension of disbelief, I kept rationalizing to myself that the tone he will set will be change enough, that he will be a catalyst for all the changes we need. In Obama's defense, he has very likely become fearful of ending up like JFK.

In a strange way, I'm relieved. Change is inevitable, and no president emanating from our two-party mafia is going to either stand up to the pending corporate police state or solve the problems of global climate change. Events will overtake.

There was a time before the two-party mafia, and there will be a time after. There was a time before the dominance of large corporations, and there will be a time after. There was a time before global climate change, and there will be a time after. If it wasn't clear before that we are on our own, it sure is now. As a species, we can solve the problems we face. Yes we can.

anyone questioning Obama

is a GOP troll. Ridiculous.

You guys fucked us, and now it's too late. Obama is a fraud. Great article Joan, only it's about 4 months too late.

Sourceless Joan Strikes Again

But Obama needs to watch himself. Telling voters they have no place else to go, before he officially has the nomination, is not a winning strategy.

Please cite your souces. When did he say this?

That's what his people told Clinton voters.

Please cite your sources as to who on his staff told Clinton voters this at Obama's request.

That's what they're saying about opponents of the FISA sellout.

Please cite your sources as to who on his staff told FISA opponents this at Obama's request.

That's the line on those concerned about his "partial-birth" abortion remarks.

Please cite your sources as to who on his staff told pro-choice voters this at Obama's request. Also, what does "that's the line" mean? Joan, you need an editor.

It's arrogant -- up against the backdrop of Obama's big plans for an Invesco Field acceptance speech in Denver and a Brandenberg Gate extravaganza in Berlin, I'm starting to worry about grandiosity -- and it could backfire.

Oh no! Joan is WORRIED about Obama???? STOP THE PRESSES!!!!

Obama has now trashed the 4th Amendment

Just like he trashed Hillary Clinton. Obama's motive for doing both was one and the same: force himself to the top of the political power heap by any means necessary, principles, ideals, or promises be damned.

BTW, thanks to all who have aided and abetted the ascendancy of this Worst Possible Candidate Ever. Many of you are now shocked, shocked, you tell us, to discover that the emperor is standing there stark naked, exposed for the consummate liar he's been all along (and if Jesse Sr. had his way, possibly missing vital equipment).

If you would, please tell us this: instead of forking over hard earned money to line Obama's pockets by buying yet more copies of his twin (dissembling, self serving) Paeans To Myself, instead of blithely relying on blind vituperation (against Clinton) and blind adulation (for Obama) issuing from the blogger boyz (and girlz), why in hell did you not research the man for yourselves??? The background has been out there all along, accessible to all of us (and this includes the flipping MSM). But woe to anyone who did bother to look into just who the real Obama might be. Doubts constituted racism, pure and simple. I know, because I was consigned to the Klan many times over on this site and others.

I'm so damned disgusted at this point, so sick at heart at what the Democratic party has degenerated into. And yah, I do have somewhere else to go. Damned straight, like so many others, I'm now pure PUMA.

Oh, Joan

I do not understand your moral compass.

Hillary Clinton's vote for an unnecessary war that has cost thousands of lives?

Forgivable.

Barack Obama's FISA vote?

Unforgivable.

Not too late to dump Obama

Technically he's not the nominee yet. I'd like to see someone, anyone - Clinton, Edwards, Gore - lead a fight to displace him at the convention.

We have been the victim of a vicious BAIT AND SWITCH and I want my money back.

I don't feel betrayed by Walsh

I'd of had to have had some kind of faith in her from the start. And the prescience of her punditting skills! Her calls on the democratic primary had all the artful precision of a preschooler discovering finger painting for the first time. A few words comes to mind when I think of Walsh's powers of political prognostication - uninsightful and sophomoric.

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 09:34 PM

That's right "wright5579"

Don't vote for Obama. Don't send him any money. Whatever you need to do to feel clean and pure.

I'm going to keep swinging the hammer to make sure McCain isn't elected President. Whatever it takes.

This FISA bill was going to pass regardless of how Obama voted. He could have made a symbolic vote against the bill and watch the Republicans run ad after ad telling low-info voters that Obama loves the terrorists. After all, he's only ahead by single digits in Ohio and PA.

So yeah, if you're hitting Obama for something he felt he needed to do to win this election and prevent four years of "bomb bomb bomb Iran", you are a Republican troll; whether you realise it or not.

assuming

I am assuming ms Walsh and others have NYT. This Op Ed is a reasonable read on this.

@Katex

I'm delighted that you're "so day disgusted." It has always appeared to be your most prefered state of mind. Enjoy your disgust until you bust.

@ Jason G.

How are you the victim of "bait and switch"?

You never supported Obama, so how are you injured. I on the other hand have supported Obama from the very beginning and I don't feel abused at all.

It's obvious from your previous posts you believe McCain will be elected and are doing your very best to make that prediction come true.

This might be the biggest difference of all between Clinton and Obama supporters as witnessed by you, Joan Walsh, katetex, aka smith et al. If Hillary won the nomination, I would be fighting hammer and tongs to get her elected. You people howl about Obama's supposed betrayal of progressive principles, yet do everything in your power to get McCain elected.

You peoples' loyalties to progressive principles go about as deep as a mud puddle on a dusty road.
