I love this country. God knows I do, but this country has a learning curve when it comes to picking presidents. Look how long it took for people to start to even question Obama on anything. But, now it seems like everyone is complaining about his integrity. I can’t help but get a kick out of all of this, and I am sure that Hillary is laughing as well. But, if you still think Obama was the best choice, then you still don’t get it.
The Answer:
You have been led astray!
Your post was very poetic, and it was right on point!
Thanks!
Tell me Queen Bee, are you pray tell a partime Penecostal preacher?
even though you're going to catch hell from the Obama acolytes. Considering that he taught Constitutional Law, Obama apparently now thinks that the fourth amendment is passe. I'm from Massachusetts, so I don't have to worry about McCain winning here and can write in a name of someone who believes what they say. Thankfully you and Greenwald exist.
Re: "At the risk of sounding woefully ignorant, does anyone know what rule(s) would stop superdelegates (or any delegates for that matter) switching their vote to hillary at the convention and shifting the nomination to her?"
I don't think there are any. The superdelegates can vote for anybody they want. The ones who come from districts that voted for Hillary could possibly be persuaded.
I don't know if this is true, but I have read that Obama is trying to block the traditional roll call vote at the convention, so that none of the superdelegates can switch.
So your have read it, the new FISA bill, then tell me how many days does the Attorney General and the Intelligence Agency have before FISA court Overview under the new FISA bill? It' not the president who does the spying.
You are no Glenn Greenwald. I was excited to read your post, but it turned out to be fluff. WHY are you so disappointed in Obama? Have you read the FISA bill? What about Obama's other recent flip-flops (campaign finance, withdrawal from Iraq, individual's right to own handguns, etc.)?
The problem with pundits like yourself is you start off with an idea and then write an article around it. Instead, I would invite you to do some research and then write an article.
The reason why Obama and the other Democrats in Congress disgust me (and it isn't ONLY ME, Congress' positive approval rating is 9% - lowest in history) is they took power in 2006 by lambasting the Bush Administration and the Republicans for their mishandling of the war, the economy, corruption, etc. However, since they took power -- what have they done to thwart Bush? Have they challenged him at all? Have they held him to task for trampling the Constitution? The domestic spy program WAS ILLEGAL and VIOLATED THE 4th AMENDMENT... why is that so difficult to understand, yet Congress hands the telecoms immunity so we will never know the extent of the crimes committed by our Government against its own people.
You should feel betrayed by Nancy Pelosi for taking Impeachment off the table; you should feel betrayed by Harry Reid who is the most spineless, inept, and ineffectual Majority Leader in generations.
The person you should feel LEAST betrayed by is Obama because he is trying to get elected and he feels the need to appeal to the widest audience. Now, I personally disagree with that approach as I think it calls his integrity into question, but I can understand the political pragmatism.
So Joan -- I hope you are paying attention to my critique, and I expect better next time.
Why all the hero worship for Glenn? One attorney's analysis of FISA is not Godly.
You are the one trying to shift the topic to personal issues with Glenn. You got your hat handed to you in Glenn's letter section and you know it. I have not said Glenn is godly. As a matter of fact, anyone looking though the archives would see that I hardly agree with Glenn upon all issues but I know of no issue that he has researched more of the last year than the FISA and spying issue. No I don't think he is God, but yes I do suspect that he knows more than your hubby.
Does Glenn has some cases pending this Telcom issue?
I don't know. You can ask him. However, I am more concerned that Joan Walsh has bought hog futures and is going to foist yet another article about pork on us. The only pork that interests me is political pork.
Unfortunately, I am just tired of being stuck between a rock and a hard place. But, I survived 8 years of Bush with the hope of the light at the end of the tunnel. Thus, I am merely trying to find the words to express my deep disappointment with our Democratic nominee.
Obama's votes on FISA and his blatant hypocricy on telecom immunity are unforgiveable, and this crap about not having a choice is totally over the top. We all have choices in this election, and Nader and Barr are looking better and better all the time. Given the totally craven behavior of our lovely Democratic congress, I sure as hell don't think a Democratic President will automatically result in anything good. Maybe a divided government, especially one with a Democratic congress that has had its head handed to it on a platter, would be the best of a bunch of really bad alternatives.
Obama was never actually a professor of constitutional law. He was only a senior lecturer. That's sort of an adjunct position. However at a pricey school like U of Chicago, they just can't call them adjuncts.
Nonetheless, the "I knew it all along," tone of this blog is a little over the top. We seem to have developed a tendency in America for either bullshit or martyrdom--maybe the two even go together, maybe even dialectially--but there has to be other ways of talking politically. It's a dispiriting campaign in large part because the mainstream media has a bad case of solipsism, and so does the political class. Put them together and it's like listening to the most brittle, childish voices trying to massage each other into a coherence that just isn't there. There's no center "there," and there wasn't when Clinton was in the campaign, so all of you Clinton supporters can put your "I told you so, but what am I?" megaphones away. The political system in America is broken, and to look to Obama or any politician to fix it is to really look in the wrong place. It's up to us to hold their feet to the fire, and we can't stop just because they did their predictable thing of covering up crimes in D.C.
There is a netroots campaign that Glenn Greenwald has been involved in, and everyone who reads salon.com should read about it and get involved. It's going to be a real snore of a campaign if we leave it to the handlers to just fill up space and air time with their propaganda.
