Obama won Oregon. Clinton won Kentucky. In Iowa, Obama skipped a victory lap and had gracious words for Clinton. So what's next for Democrats?

  • To Sulpicious

"...And then there are politicians whose power is built on the creation and exploitation of the divisions inherent in prejudice, who need to keep these attitudes in concrete. Joan, Hilary has helped set this concrete, with the word "white" in conjunction with "hard working," a calculated appeal to stereotype and prejudicde, and I will never, ever forgive her. Ever."

    Bingo

  • I think if Dems had any sense we'd ALL have "kind words" for Obama and wish him well: as in good bye and good luck.

He has made NO margins with elderly votes, blue collar, rural, hispanics and women and his alienating voters he did have very quickly.

He's not going to win a General with skewed leftie caucuses from Idaho, Oregon and Nebraska and blacks in the Carolinas and we ALL know it. Why is the Democratic Party so damned suicidal?

Run behind Hillary before it's too late.

  • Rocky57 you demonstrate the Obama Hypocrisy most voters find so groteseque.

Sorry dewd. Obama even had John Edwards shilling for him in NC. He had national advertisements running all over the cable networks in Florida and then claims he wasn't advertising.

He ran every RNC hitjob on the Clintons he could drove up, and most of all HE AND AXELROD took the turdblossoms bait and made the election all about race to take SC and the lead.

America is actually not "racist" (save for the blacks I mean) but they do hate hypocrites. And you will see a big backlash for what you did, rightfully too.

Obama will never win; not because he's black but because he race-baited and because he's an empty suit, an unqualified bozo, and yes, a Muslim appeaser. You can't win a General on the votes of black bigots in the Carolinas and winesippers in Oregon.

And a lot of us will never forgive obama for being so slimey and greedy, and esp the nut left for forcing this loser on us when Dems were set to take it all.

Lets say Hillary has the working class blue collar white vote, the latino vote and the older female vote behind her.

This is for the sake of argument, because while the older female vote is a sort of lock for her and the latinos do like her, the working class is only really a lock for her over Obama in two states, one of which polled with just over 20% of its Democratic voting population being openly racist.

Now lets look at the Demographics behind Obama according to the exit polling. He has the black vote, he has the educated vote, he has the young vote (Male and female), he has the wealthier vote, he has the liberal vote, he has the caucus vote and he even has the dissalusioned Republican vote.

And you are telling me to ignore all of these other voters that Obama has, because Hillary has three demographics in the bag?

  • To Rocky57

I hear you, and well said. I am very concerned about the racist attitudes in WV that some people had no qualms about admitting to the media and pollsters, and I wonder about others who may have not shared their true beliefs.

I wasn't specifically talking about Obama reaching out to potential voters in WV or KY, although I don't see what's wrong with that. I was really thinking about this and other internet forums, where I hope that Obama supporters avoid becoming "sore winners".

That's not to say that we shouldn't express our opinions and fight against racism, sexism, gutter politics, and maintaining the political status quo of Republican misgovernance.

BTW, I have read What's the Matter with Kansas. Interesting about the "branding", isn't it? In an advertising-saturated, consumer-oriented culture like the US, it's all in the brand you buy, right? If I buy Nikes, I can be like Mike. If I vote Republican, I can be a patriotic, successful American.

  • Education is a noise filter

Does anyone with an education reading this actually believe that Obama is a muslim? Better yet, does anyone with an education reading this believe it would be a problem (for you) if Obama was of the Muslim faith?

People without an education don't have the tools to filter out the noise and don't have the worldview to understand that just because some of the folks who flew planes into buildings were Muslims, not all Muslims want to fly planes into buildings.

An education allows some of us to filter out the noise (flag pins, etc.) and just get the signal. You can stereotype that attribute as "elite" but I'd rather have it than not.

There are people all over the US (not just in WV and KY where they are concentrated) who don't have the tools to filter out the misinformation and there are other people who use that fact in a divisive way. We expect Limbaugh and others like him to do this. We don't expect it from Democrats and certainly not from Hillary or Bill Clinton.

I'd much rather see Obama work on educating these folks rather than bending to get their votes, but in fact no matter how he did it they would no doubt look at him as some uppity black man, how dare he have a brain and think about things in more complex ways than they do. His speech on race was brilliant but how many people without an education actually heard it and if they did, how many of them actually got it?

As Michael Douglas said (and Aaron Sorkin wrote) in The American President:

"America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship..."

A few of the prerequisites for "advanced citizenship," it would seem to me, are literacy and education. Throwing education under the bus is a very bad idea.

  • Clinton Racism

The Clinton campaign continues to rack up victories by playing the race card. Though a third of her voters in Ken told exit pollers that they voted based on race, clearly there are many who would not admit to racism but who nonetheless are racist.

The Clinton campaign has nothing left but racism to run on. She and her supporters are the most blatant racists in the Democractic party since George Wallace ran as a Democrat at the request of Ronald Reagan. While I don't believe the Clintons are racists in their hearts, if they believe it will gain them victory--which is all they really care about--they are willing to play the race card.

Hillary Clinton is an absolutely disgusting self-serving politician. She can whine about how its sexism that is holding her back, but many many women feel that it is her arrogance and incompetence that have cost her this election.

Many of us will not forget what the Clintons have done in their selfish desire to win at all costs.
