An Obama supporter lashes out at political allies who've scorned Clinton's white working-class backers. It's worth reading.

  • I get it Joan - You really hate the lefties

But baby, the lefties are taking back the Democratic party to its original promise. Right wing Dem Clintons and their followers will now join the Republicans where they really belong. The progressives have arisen to reclaim the party that flew so close to the GOP.

  • God bless 'em

The salt of the earth. If they didn't keep voting against their interests and for their prejudices the Republicans would be out of business.

  • thank-you carol richards

I'm not sure I see it either (about the awful supporters) but wouldn't it be fun to have an enormous party just to see how obnoxious Obama supporters truly are....

the worst among us might stand around in crisp starched shirts and ties, trying to look a little like Paul Newman, maybe taking delicate swigs of Cabernet Sauvignon, talking about their fancy education while nibbling on expensive brie. It would be optional, but those who wanted to could sip their wine with a pinky extended. One hazy room might feature a seance for those who wanted to channel the great one...another a dartboard in the shape of a bowling ball..

I'm not talking about a closed party--although it would be invitation only. Some partiers could sneak in bottles of Crown Royale under their shirts if they were careful...and make effusive and sentimental remarks about how much they admire Hillary Clinton and Gloria Steinem....But not for too long, or too loudly, of course, or they might need to take their turn in the dunking pool...beside Joan Walsh...

    cheers!

  • Damage Control (If You REally Wanted It)

Mostly this post is addressed to Ms. Walsh herself.

So sorry if you've found some comments 'disheartening', and also, way to go with that good-old 'elitist' garbage again. It is amazing how the Democratic Party (the Clinton faction at last) so desperately does the work of the RNC for them, keeping the racist hopes of Hillary Clinton and the establishment alive and well without the slightest hint of shame. It has become ever so apparent that Ms. Clinton and her ilk intend to take Obama down with them, delivering the election to McCain and company (and you just know Cheney will be in that administration too -good shepherd of the good war, etc.). My point being that every negative focused on Obama (from the Wright thing, to the elitist thing, to the bowling thing, to the Hezbollah thing, etc.) has been smoke and mirrors meant to distract all of us from the potential for fresh blood in the White House, and has Hillary in any way defended Obama? Have you, Ms. Walsh, ever lamented YOUR candidates inability to bowl? Has any one accused either McCain or Ms. Clinton of elitism considering they are both millionaires and have lived in Washington D.C. for decades? Of course not, because for some ridiculous reason a bunch of maniacs really just NEED Hillary or McCain in the White House. Please, anyone White at all, please, anyone but the black guy who promises to really shake things up. We get to watch Obama tarred and feathered by a bunch of racists and cowards for our amusement, only the whole spectacle is sickening. All pastors, ministers, etc are completely nuts (considering they all believe in beings that don't exist) yet Obama is the only one torn to bits because of the church he went to. McCain can barely walk yet Obama is a wimp because he can't bowl. Hillary Clinton cries o-poor-me and we applaud her, Obama handles each attack on his character with patience and dignity yet he is derided as being too intellectual. I'm telling you Ms. Walsh, you've got to wake up to your complicity in this farce as soon as possible or else BushCorp II will soon be arriving.

It is funny, I've heard talk like Obama needs to bring together the Dems, as if he is the one that tore the Dems apart. All Obama has been saying all along is that everyone needs to stick together and become one people, so let's look at what politicians and interests are tearing this race apart. It is about time all the Hillary supporters apologized for their ridiculous behavior and get behind Obama in this election, and I mean with all your might, because time is running out and you've already done enough damage.

  • AKASmith on respect for Hillary

Hillary threaded the needle. Watching her do it, I was both appalled and amazed and ended up with more respect for her.

Oh ye of little faith! Has it been that long since Clinton's husband's breathtaking appropriation of Ross Perot's fiscal talking points? Or his deft blackmailing of Bush Sr over the old man's mistress? These people know what it takes and are willing to do it. Respect is entirely in order, because hand-wringing does not win elections.

And now Hillary is poised to deliver the other half of the party — the half that Obama couldn't ever quite reach — on a silver platter.

She's not going to be president, but she's not out of the picture — not hardly.

It's a fine time for the Democratic party, with an embarrassment of determined, capable leaders. Now all the rest of us have to do is not screw up.

  • @ doloresflower

Tea with the pinky extended, dammit. White wine held by the pads of the fingers on the stem. This is the last time we're going to tell you.

  • Elitists?

I've got some news for you, Joan. You know who would be considered "elitist" today?

Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Hamilton, Franklin, et. al. How about Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, Susan B. Anthony, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, and JFK and Jackie O.

Damn those elitist founding fathers who had the temerity to be brilliant. Damn those elitist abolitionists who had the gall to end slavery. Damn those elitist suffragettes who had the cojones to demand the right to vote. Damn those elitist northeast liberals who had the gumption to challenge and inspire the American people.

That you choose to play this spurious and moronic Republican word game tells us all we need to know. You've lost it. Period. And hey, not for nothing, but you live in San Francisco, right? Think there are Republicans out there who, based on nothing, might attack you as an elitist?

Stop giving credence to Republican talking points. That's all you're doing under the guise of commentary. It's witless and it became tiring long ago. Or am I just another elitist you can tar with your broad brush?
