  • Fox Noise here I come!

Joan, didn't read the entire article, but do you really believe that H's "White" was a matter of misspeaking in the same sense as O's "bitter"? Your sounding more and more like Fox, fair and balanced. Sad

"Obama vs. Clinton is a Freudian psycho-drama. Discuss.

Hillary Clinton is the stern mother who denies affection. Barack Obama is the distant "good son" who has risen to usurp his mother's dominant place in the household. Between them there is an underlying sexual tension, which sets off the pain of beleaguered mothers and neglected sons everywhere.

Nearby, an aging father figure awaits the outcome of their battle. Will it be the superior-achieving mother, or the bucking-for-the-job son who vies for the patriach's presumed position?

    Discuss.

I predict and would rather say, the young lion defeats the old lion. I LIKED mccain, a little. I'll admit it. I am a former soldier. Having said that, the mccain of 5 months ago is not the mccain of today.

I will not vote gop. ever. Until they destroy the fascists in their party. It's not liberals keeping rush on the air. Fox. The gop needs to recognize they are done as a major party in america until they right their ship. To NOt hold them to that account and standard does them no favors. If only pepsi existed would they imporve?

Their party has went off the deep end. to render them irrelevant helps them. If we, as americans, do not do that they will nto change. Only worsen. I'm for leaving the gop in a cave until they right their ship and shut down their own fascist propgoadnists themselves. It's obvious us liberals can't do it for them.

As long as they are the party of "thank god For Fox", they will now share fox's irrelevance with the american people. As this site shows the only place fox has relevance is with fascsit propogandists like them, trying to capitalize on the destructioin of america and it's ideals.

  • @ stackey-dackey

Why on earth are you reluctant to call ProudTexasGirl a racist? She is obviously a racist.

Sometime back, you tried to imply that I might not trust Obama for racist reasons. You tried to lay a racist label on me in my opinion. I really resented it. But you are willing to give ProudTexasGirl the benefit of the doubt?

I tell you, stackey-dackey, I do wonder what on earth goes through your mind.

I have never suggested that Joan ban anyone, not even the worst sorts of sexists. However, if ProudTexasGirl doesn't need banning, I don't know who does. I think some Obama supporters might want her around as an egregious example of racism. Please. She is hardly unique. Texas is full of people just like her. I have been hearing that go back to Africa stuff since I was 12 years old. I recognized it as racism even then. I surely recognize it now.

    Shouldn't ProudTexasGirl be banned?

  • Also, Joan, I think you lied

in the earlier posting when I asked why you had not provided the Brazile quote. You stated you did not have the transcript of the quote.

I think you did, but wanted to paraphrase it in order to make your point.

    Sloppy? yes.

    Lacking integrity ? Absolutely.

I feel a bit dirty all over for having taken you at your word.

  • Scuse me please I don't mean to take a piss..

...but just which fucking low rent "gate" is this?

  • Decoded

Find something that someone else said so Hillary's appalling comment will just seem like part of a widespread trend.

I've used the word disingenous so many times to describe Salon that I think my keyboard is running out of those letters.

Well, at least the editor is not defending Clinton's comments outright. This, I think, is progress.

Racist/non-racist is a useless debate right now regarding Hillary Clinton. At this level of opportunism and ethical bankruptcy, there's no one core at all, she'll be either one if it might get her a vote.

  • Aka Smith!

    Speakin' of creeps!

Proud Texas girl is one of your peeps...

  • From Joan Walsh

banyantree, I feel a bit dirty for having responded to you in the first place, believing you were someone asking a question in good faith. What right or reason do you have to accuse me of lying? Have a good weekend!

  • What's goin' on deep with in the lead lined walls of Hillary's..

    ...Archie Bunker?

  • I actually agree with Joan! ( . . . on a couple of points)

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I agree with Joan. I also don't think that Hillary meant to define hard working Americans as white. I think she was trying to use what she thought was persuasive demographic information about her voters to make one last argument for why she should be the nominee. It was a stupid thing to say, and for a candidate who is trying to prove to super delegates and to the public that she is the more experienced, more savvy political figure, it showed and incredible lack of sensitivity and awareness.

Where I do disagree with Joan though is in her fear that these white working class voters will refuse to vote for Obama in the general election. I think it's so strange that after months of posts from Joan explaining why this protracted primary was good for Obama and that we would all come together in the end, now that it looks like Obama is the nominee, Joan is worried about deep and possible irreparable divisions in the Democratic base. I happen to have faith that most (not all, but most) of Hillary's supporters, including white working class voters, will vote for Obama in the general election. It's even more likely that they will vote for Obama once he is able to devote his resources, his political machine, and his considerable charisma to explaining the differences between him and McCain. Of course it wouldn't hurt if Hillary withdrew and then put her and Bill's full support behind getting Obama elected.

There will always be people who for whatever reason (he's too black, he's not black enough, he's got a scary pastor, he's a Muslim, he's an egg headed elitist, he's too idealistic) will not vote for Obama. And no, Obama should not write every white working class voter off as unwinnable, but we also shouldn't expect that with the legacy of race and racism in this country that Obama was going to have a cake walk with these voters either. That's why, as Donna Brazile correctly argues, you have to balance the voters who will refuse to vote for Obama with the new voters, the young, the increased African American turn out, the independents that Obama attracts, the gen-X over educated liberals who never felt compelled to vote before, and, yes, the latinos who will vote for Obama (remember he lost NM by less than 1% of the votes and lost the Texas primary by only 4%).

I guess I've put on Joan's newly shed optimism and I think it's too early to be so gloomy about the Democratic party and our chances in the fall.
