weeping for brunnhilde
Well damn, WFB, would you settle for a Guinness?
-
Rachel Maddow...
...is wicked smart, btw. She's got a very agile intellect, especially for television.
-
Rachel Maddow
Yes indeed. I'd buy her a Guinness anyday
-
@ Denise
Mmm, of course! (Though I prefer Newcastle :)
I know, I know, we elitists are impossible to please, especially we uppity negro elitists, we're the worst! We'll never be satisfied.
-
shoot! so what?
Newcastle with a side of Arugula?
-
Rachael Maddow on MSNBC (Hey Joan!)
I like Rachael a lot. Maybe she can take Chris's slot when his contract is up. I like Eugene Robinson as well, but he doesn't seem quite as fast on the repartee, or as combative as Racheal.
Maybe Joan can put the fix in.
-
You can take Joan's word...
...that Donna Brazile's not a hack. Takes one to know one, and all that.
Sorry, I will never forgive Joan for flogging the Rev. Wright issue harder than Sean Hannity and Fox News. She has forfeited any right to claim that she is an objective journalist, and like her hero Hillary Clinton, she will brazenly play the race card in the service of her political ends.
Joan Walsh is neither a journalist or a progressive. Unless she is removed from Salon by the time my subscription expires, it will not be renewed.
-
@ Denise
With a side of arugula.
-
@ Fester
Heh heh eheh heh.
Put the fix in.
Maybe she can, at that!
What do you say, Joan?
-
"The appearance of impropriety is likely"
"It makes it look like something corrupt is taking place."
Mayor McDermott, Clinton supporter from Hammond, IN.
"We don't need this kind of negative exposure in Lake County...Release the numbers, Mayor Clay, because this is ridiculous."
Wow.
Til the last dog dies.
-
well there it is
Just called for Clinton.

@manos regarding Delegate Count
Manos: "If anybody knows I know he would...how many delegates does the Clintonator need to catch up to Obama?"
According to CNN, here is the new delegate count:
Obama: 1,820
Clinton: 1,672
(oddly enough, they have it as 1,819 and 1,671 on a different page.)
In other words, Obama is ahead by 148 delegates.
Obama is almost tied in superdelegates.
Go to CNN's "delegate calculator" page:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/02/29/delegate.counter/index.html
The only way for Clinton to come back would be for her to:
(1) Get nearly 100% in all remaining elections.
OR...
(2) Get over 85% of the superdelegate votes.
Even with just 75% of superdelegate votes, Obama still comes out ahead. There would have to be a nearly unanimous superdelegate mutiny against Obama for Hillary Clinton to win.
Obama wins. It's over.
I expect Hillary Clinton will be conceding within a day or two. You heard it here first. (And remember, I was also right about Indiana being a 49/51 split.)
-
@Hutman
I hope you're right. Maybe now we turn our attention to Johnny Mac.
-
Rachel's great
She just challenged Russert, calling his "We now know who the nominee will be" "not an observation, but a prediction."
Maddow's basic argument is that Clinton's campaign is "post-rational," meaning that there's no reason to believe she will drop out now if she hasn't already, whatever her current posture (e.g., clearing her immediate campaign schedule) might be.
I admire that she reminded people that Russert was making a prediction and not an observation.
To hear the truth told on television is really kind of disorienting.
-
Hutman
I would think your projections correct, the horse race is over, Hillary bows out, then it's MCcain move over.
They figured it was dumb audacity for us to have so much hope, but Hillary's negativity supplied her with just enough rope.
-
Donna Brazile is Brilliant
If we could just get her and Rachel Maddow on the same network!

Suggestion to Salon Editors...
Gold stars, red stars, blue stars, yellow stars, red crosses, brown tick marks, whatever:
Please have a brief explanatory legend coming up when one rolls over the stars, crosses or whatever...or alternatively please devise some other way to let people readily know what's what, what's hot, what's not...
Thanks and regards
GSC

I'm not really into stars

Joan, Will You Now Speak Only The Truth
Joan, as the People of this country continue to Speak through their Vote, will you swear to speak only the Truth?
Will you swear before the People to no longer speak Spin and Bias throughout your remaining experience as a Journalist?
Will last nights vote be a turn around or tie breaker for journalist? Will the People simply hear the truth?
-
Yes, Obama was magnanimous in congratulating Hillary, but...
did anyone notice if Hillary bothered to congratulate Obama?
-
To Joan (which button?)
I'm trying to think deeper about this notion that the longer they fight out each state, the better it is for the winner. I'm thinking about it with my tired brain.
Ok, two possible futures:
#1: In three days, Hillary steps down, giving a powerful speech of congratulations (for Barack) and thanks (for her supporters), a speech which makes clear she is more than ready to start helping get Barack in the oval office.
#2: Hillary fights it out in Kentucky and W. Virginia, telling as many people as possible in both states that Obama can't win against McCain, that he is out of touch with the people, suggesting he is naive and not ready to protect the country...all that.....
What is the rational that Obama is helped by #2? Look, I'm not making the ridiculously righteous argument that Clinton should step down. I'm just thinking about the practical reality of her continuing to go into states making commercials and giving speeches with all the implications and explicit criticisms of Obama. I know you are a big believer that the longer this goes, the better for Obama....but I want to really see the reasoning here. I'll admit that my blind-spot might be that I am hoping Obama wins in November...
-
To Joan (oh)
so, which button would you push?
#1 or #2?
-
She did,
right after asking for money, and mentioning how she was the underdog?.
I guess she'll have to spend another 6.5 million of her own cash, just like last month, and the months before that. You did hear about the new loan last month right?
It's a good thing she's not some Multimillionaire egomaniac that could fund her own campaign and such, oops she is.
This is done, any super-delegate holding out now, is just irresponsible, and cares more about getting a cushy assignment than the well-being of their party and nation. Unless you are part of the process, like Dean or Brazile. You must declare now, Wussies all of them.
