  • Taliesan Are You For Real?

I am actually shocked at what you wrote. I grew up poor in a blue-collar household. I was told you will never go to college, go get married and have kids. Well, I did go to college and now live very comfortably. I tell my children that education, learning about other cultures, seeing the world beyond Club Med, etc. is the only way they will succeed in this world. Study the globe and you will go far. I am also a Hillary supporter. You and your ilk are why Obama can't get the blue-collar support. Don't you get it? The Democratic Party has always been for the less fortunate, the poor, the uneducated, the liberal minded, the minorities, etc. We are the party that allows differences and allows their voices to be heard. What you are saying is that only those with an education can have their voices heard. Those who are perceived as being more open minded can have their voices heard. You are the one that is being closed minded. Seek out the truth and you shall be set free.

  • Hello President McCain

Goodbye Democratic party. Yeah, Donna Brazile did a heckuva job on Gore's campaign. She's real brainy.

  • Keep aiming low Joan. Lower Joan. A little bit lower now.

Meanwhile that journalism thing just evades and most likely is not a suitable target at all.

A frank exchange of BS, smoke and pablum surely deserves some sort of award.

  • "Joe Six-Pack, meet Jose I-Pod"

Speaking as a white, lower middle-class, middle-aged male,I would be happy to have Barak Obama as the Democratic candidate. I admit that I probably have had more education than is good for me - I doubt that I would qualify as an "egghead" - although Eggheads for Obama" would make a pretty cool t-shirt. I realize that lower-middle class, middle-aged white guys are not the future of the party. I work at a community college and can see that the future is made up of young people where there is no majority population and where there are a high percentage of mixed-racial and ethnic couples. Face it, folks, if we want to continue to grow and be relevant, the Democratic party has to be able to bring in new blood and inspire a group to become involved in politics that have not been present in a major way in the past.

  • @DennisDean

Cheers, sir, for your reasoned, measured, cogent and coherent riposte/response to the Obama hoi polloi who continue to diss and dismiss those of us who have real reservations about his ability to win in November.

To them I have but one thing to say regarding Barack's impending coronation: "You may have won the battle, but, you probably will lose the war."

    Absit invidia...

  • Well Wolfy..

At least we won't have to win a war in Iran. Obliteration's a bitch ain't it?

  • How long until we get a post from Joan asking:

"why can't Obama close the deal?"

"what else don't we know about Rev. Wright?"

"why does Obama make me uncomfortable and what is he going to do about it?"

"why hasn't Obama done more to end racism?"

"Even though the white working class abandoned Bill Clinton when his scandals broke and when he pushed NAFTA, why wouldn't Hillary see them as her core constituents?"

"Hillary is way ahead with Appalachian voters. Didn't you hear that they are the newest and most powerful Democratic voting block? Even though many say they won't ever vote for a black man, why hasn't Obama done more to convince them that he's not really black?"

"Hillary supporters have called Michelle Obama a 'ball breaking black bitch', but Obama supporters have said that Hillary should drop out and drop out sounds like faint and faint has sexist implications, so why are Obama supporters so sexist and why don't I delete more of their posts?"

"did you hear that Obama really needs 2,209 delegates to win the nomination? Hillary's making that argument now . . . and it's a good one."

"why do people keep saying that the race is over? what if Hillary won 85% of the remaining states and what if Obama was found in bed with a tranny and a mountain of coke and what if the Jesus appeared and said he wants Hillary to be president? We can't rule her out just yet"

"I come from a working class Irish family. Did you know that?"

  • Tree Hugger

Actually what I am saying is that the educated shouldn't have their voices dismissed because they are "Elites" as posters like ShawnWM and RedGTI seem to think, or like comentators such as Begala seem to believe. That is the heart of the "Egghead" crack.

Think about what is means when people talk sneeringly of "Latte liberals" which is basically calling a rich person who is trying to do good a hypocrite for NOT being a cartoon villain. When you use that language you are telling your kid to fail, because it is specifically aimed at attacking success.

And of course, when I say "Hillbot" I do not mean all Hillary supporters, any given politician can attract a range of people for a range of reasons. I mean those virulent posters whose first response to Obama's speech on race was to say "Obama threw his grandma under the bus."

We are all focussed on the needs of the poor and the powerless, just because some of us have studied doesn't change that - but there comes a time when we need to recognise that those who are not poor and powerless, may have some ideas for how to fix things.

And it is time to admit that the old standby of "You elitist dirtbag" response to an argument made from an educated position has landed America with two wars, two recessions, two major disasters and two terms under a monkey. It is time to listen to what the elitist dirtbags are saying - they may just have a point.

And it is also past time that the working class got it together to say "We aren't the blue collar workers, we don't care what beer the president drinks and we aren't "The people" or some sacred silent majority we are people. Treat us accordingly."

Because the other side of this fight is getting pissed off too. There are only so many times an Obama supporter whose views may be shaped on anything from percieved racism in Clinton's campaign, to opposition to her approach to foreign policy to opposing her on censorship can take being called a naive loony-left latte liberal elitist.
