  • a shock

what a shock, Joan doesn't support Obama.

  • John Anderson

    "Did you read the post?"

    Do we have to?

    Not at all.

Jump right in. The water's fine.

  • Bye

    12:21 5/7

    Bye, Joan.

You can stop your incredibly tedious obsession now. No more Hillary.

    Bye.

    Salon is going downhill. Refocus.

  • spoon daddy

what a shock, Joan doesn't support Obama.

In all fairness, Joan Walsh has perfectly reasonable explanations for her support for Hillary, despite the Serious Questions about her record and her positions, particularly her questionable associations with certain right-wing organizations, heavy-handed religious groups, globalist and corporatist power brokers, and so forth. Associations Obama seems to lack.

    Don't you Joan?

  • Joan -- how about congratulating Barack?

It was a great night for Obama! How about just a few words for him?

A 16% victory in North Carolina and a gap down to 2% in Indiana!

    That is amazing!

I think that deserves a few words of congratulations.

  • Who she supports

Who Joan supports is not an issue. Both candidates have their positives and negatives and are light years ahead of McCain when it comes to suitability for the office.

What is an issue is if Joan lets her support color her coverage. Of course that is very debatable depending on who you the reader supports.

Question is, are we getting good data?

  • This drives me crazy for a number of reasons.

First, I honestly don't see the value of this post, Joan. I'm not suggesting it was partisanly motivated or anything, but essentially this is just a titillating argument between talking heads. As XH said, they went back and forth about some demographic issues without really reaching for any kind of analysis or solving anything. How is this not just you reporting on a sibling-type snit-fit?

Second, we have to rely on you for your interpretation of Donna's instigative remark, which would be fine except that when Begala suggested that she said something along the line that you said she said, Donna said this: First of all, Paul, you didn't hear me right. Maybe I should come and cook you something because you've got a little hearing problem. What does she mean by this? Did he mishear her or not? Not having watched it, I need you to interpret for me, Joan. What was it that she said, precisely?

Third, I can't stand the now-entrenched assumption that Obama represents the elites and Hillary is for the rural and working-class whites (WCW). This whole argument b/t Donna and Paul starts with that presumption, and the media talks about it as a given most of the time. This is a media- and Clinton-campaign-driven talking point. Exactly how, I want to know, is Hillary a champion for that particular demographic rather than Obama? Exactly how? They have essentially the same policies, and they are both wealthy, well-educated powerful people. I'll ask again, other than because she and the media say so, how is Hillary actually more pro-WCW?

I bring up this last point to you, Joan, because You Are The Media. This argument b/t Paul and Donna (admittedly interesting) demonstrates Begala's extreme partisanship from what I can tell--on this night when it looks like Hillary might actually need to consider giving up and working towards unity, there's Begala still pushing the notion that WCW is a demographic that's not going to be covered under an Obama Presidency. A more thoughtful analysis, Joan, might have you wondering what I have wondered: How and why did it become accepted wisdom that Hillary is the champion of poor whites? Is it merely because she told them so? Or is there something else going on? And you might have thrown in a bit of original insight as to how she and Obama together might overcome this problem so they don't need to run without this demographic, by explaining to them that in fact they are both millionaires who rarely bowl or drink shots but who both really care about their lives and have similar policies to prove it. I liked what Obama said in his speech about Telling The Truth. What a concept.

  • well regardless

I think we can all admit that Donna Brazile totally kicks ass. The way she pwned that mustachio'd idiot Castellanos made my night!

  • Brazile on Colbert

reminded me of Fonda on Colbert. In both cases, the normally self-possessed Colbert came unglued.

  • That was refreshing

    I sense things are meshing..

  • tv is better

    with the video part

  • and this is thoughtful or important why???

Didn't you have nutin else to say and needed to do more stirring the pot BS?

when are you gonna be gone?

  • As Hoosier and having an advanced degree in poli sci etc...that a black man

As a middle aged Hoosier I am astounded that this state gave this number of votes to a black man. This is a backward red state..so either Hilary is a REALLY poor candidate or Obama has something goin on. Something goin on that even the liberal goofballs at Salon don't recognize.

  • @ weeping - link to Brazile on Colbert

    check it out:

    Worth watching - totally hilarious!

  • Instead of pimping more bs....

How about a thoughtful piece about how Hilary can gracefully bow out...oh wait, that isn't her forte.

  • the sigmund5 smackdown

this whole web site is "stirring the pot".

  • why Yap on about this crap?

Oh yea, Joan loves to be on TV and promote more punditry crap...hopefully she is doing this because she realizes she doesn't have much job security

  • punishment

I am a sucker for punishment. I watched CNN all night. I really mostly like Paul. Especially when Clintons really needed defending. I like Lanny Davis too when he was really needed to defend a good cause. But that is so yesterday. It is really sad that CNN gives Lanny Davis equal time more than the other guests to defend a lost cause. Put him on the OJ defense team already. Now he looks like an oily equivocator parsing truth and lies and coming up with lies. The optics are so 90's What part of she lost does he not understand .. unless lie and cheat is the new virtue.

  • Wow, Joan Walsh responded to me!

It's the first time since November 27!

    And it's about THIS...

    Crazy.

Anyway, yeah, I read it. It was weird. I want to *SEE* it. I don't think the text does it justice. I'll be hunting on YouTube...will you link it?

  • @XH

It happened to me once too..believe it the afterglow is short lived.
