Letters to the Editor

Letters posted here are associated with the following article:
Is Obama's coalition just "eggheads and African-Americans"? Is Clinton's emphasis on "Joe and Jane Sixpack" excluding black blue-collar Democrats? A frank exchange of views on CNN.
The letters thread is now closed.
  • Brown

Can someone please enlighten me to the educational and journalism experience of Brown on CNN. She is so goody-two-shoes, and has a hard time controlling the political pundits.

I thought Geurgon's smack down was also very good.

  • Joan Walsh and her delusional marginalizing of Obama

Obama just about kicked Hillary's ass out of the race last night, and all we got from Joan the Moan for Hillary, is this tiff between Brazile and that cocky bastard Begala.

  • So do these election results mean to say, and I don't want to seem cold...

...but does this all indicate that the obliteratin' of Iran, is on indefinate hold?

  • It's a big party ...

In their respective speeches after Tuesday's primaries, both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama seem to have gotten the message to start healing rifts in the party instead of creating more. Donna Brazile is definitely on message. Paul Begala, stuck in the last century, apparently didn't get the memo. He deserved the smackdown.

  • Blogger Ethics?

Joan Walsh has bad blogger ethics? That's certainly a fact, and is the least of her ethical weaknesses. She lacks even a smidgen of journalistic ethics, from which blogger ethics are somewhat informally derived.

Walsh's post is time-stamped: "Wednesday May 7, 2008 22:33 EDT." Numerous responses point out an error in the transcript ("grumpy" not "wealthy"). These people discovered the error by watching the exchange in question. Joan Walsh claims to have also watched the exchange. Yet she either didn't catch the error, or has chosen to let it remain in her version of the transcript. Though other respondents have pointed out the link to a video clip of the exchange, Joan has not added this to her post as she stated she would do. She has also not linked to the full transcript, of which she acknowledges her awareness. Her inaccurate "paraphrasing" of Brazile's recorded remarks remains in place. (No doubt Joan will opine that the presence of these items in the letters section is good enough for her.)

This is, at best, misleading by accident. At best, it demonstrates a lack of concern for accuracy in reporting. Considering Walsh's recent track record of exhibited partisan bias, even these best-cases assumptions suggest a person whose lack of concern for accuracy and ethical editing is motivated by her personal desire for a particular political outcome.

  • Left wing eggheads?

Left wing egg heads are smarter than the average bear, and that is they support Obama.

  • @AchillesisCrying

They don't die soon enough for the party. A 50 year old today can expect to live through at least 5 more Presiential elections. Do you really want to wait nearly 30 years before you see another Democratic President?

  • @jebldmm

jebldmm: "That kind of explains why Democrats keep losing. When you write off your loyal base in favor of new voter's who don't have much of a history of following up on their promises to show up at the polls, then you are pretty much assuring that you will lose."

    New voter's what?

jebldmm: "Apparently Brazile is ignorant of basic political facts that any student in Politics 101 knows: Older people vote more. Older people donate more. Older people pay more attention to politics."

Maybe we should raise the voting age to 55?

jebldmm: "Latinos are increasing in number and will very soon make up a majority of voter's in several critical states."

    A majority of voter's what?

  • Joan is the typical bitter white woman

She is not done with Obama yet. Her transparent arsenal still has some Clinton provided talking point missiles to regularly slay Obama, well after his inauguration in January.

  • @Hhatchet

I've actually thought about whether I'd prefer to see Democrats lose rather than have Obama as President. Oddly, I didn't feel this way 6 months ago, or even 3. What has turned me a combination of the nasty campaigning from Obama's camp and the kind of attitude you show here - total disdain for any voter that does not support Obama. Also, I really have not been impressed with Obama's performance. In the debates he has been indifferent, whiney, unwilling to commit, and obviously untutored on the issues. In his campaign speeches he focuses on empty rhetoric about "change" and "hope" and makes promises that mean nothing. When he does commit to something, like his health care plan, it is generally a centrist position, not a Progresssive one, and I don't get the feeling that he will fight for it. I was dismayed when he went on vacation in the middle of a primary. He has no awareness of international politics, no understanding of economics, and often is unaware of his own positions (he says that they were written by aids).

McCain is a brilliant man with a well-deserved, if overstated, reputation for being a moderate. He is not as moderate as I would like, but he isn't a neocon either. He is certainly capable of dealing with a crisis. Wheter or not he would deal with it in a way I approve is the real question.

  • @Hhatchet

Oh... and by the way, please stop suggesting that we think of Obama as "uppity". People who support Clinton are aware of the racial implications of that word, and we're tired of race-baiting. I'm not going to be convinced to vote for Obama because if I don't I will be called a racist. Race is not a good reason to vote for or not vote for a candidate. Unless you are a Republican who really wants Dems to lose this election, I suggest that you tone down the rhetoric and stop trying to use race to insult people who don't support Obama. By injecting race into this campaign you are trying to turn him into an affirmative action President, and that is not what he is about.

  • This here's the story of a man named jeb...

...he called himself a progressive but had cobwebs in his head...next thing he asked was "what's it gonna be?" so he voted for MCcain cos he couldn't Hillary...

  • It's OBVIOUS You Obama-Addicts Don't Read.....

Maybe if you Obama-addicts were not so filled with hate you could read the article.

This article states the words spewed by Brazile and Begala only. Jane is just reporting on what was said.

My reflections are that Brazile should just come out with whom she is supporting. It is so obvious as to who it is. She pretty much is free advertising for Obama on CNN.

I also think that CNN is the New Obama Network and will soon have the logo of BON..the Barack Obama Network. Now he can be just like his buddy Oprah.
