Have to assume
that Hillary and her supporters don't really want to see the Democratic party win. With all the new voters that have been registered and Barack's ability to hold the most loyal demographic base in the democratic party it would seem like those who really cared about health care, the war,the economy, affordable education and the enviornment would start getting with the front runner.
But it sounds like the Hillary supporters do not care so much about the country as they care more about rewarding the Clintons and not giving into those African-Americans and egg heads.
They would rather lose then to see Barack become President. They would rather their family members lose homes, health and lives before they vote for that uppity, elitist named Barack Hussein Obama.
Come November the world is going to see just how fair or racist America is. If it sees that the majority of Americans will vote based on race I believe we will lose the little world wide respect we still have.
If they see that majority of Americans will vote their fears then their hopes then they know that that the Declaration of Independence and the Constitition are just words.

@lisaby, re: bitterness in the ranks
I saw what you saw. It was sad but also cathartic in the sense that it was a display of a frayed and tattered family (the party) doing the emotional work of pulling itself back together.
I stated earlier that it was akin to watching a child give guidance and counsel to an older, somewhat infirm, but still loved, parent. Very poignant, and for the first time in this travail of a primary I actually felt a sense of expectancy, tinged with melancholy over a bygone era. The era that is lost is one that in recent years neither supported nor reflected my value structure, so I have wished and have worked for its demise; however, I do not want to throw out the good people and core principles of the party in the process (the old baby with the bath water challenge).
I want to make room for more people and ideas.
One personal example: in Pa, where my husband and I live, the local, county and state party structure were not ones that were embracing of people like us- black, fairly well-educated, opinionated, and hard workers. None of those characteristics were appealingto them.
We tried to become involved and were rebuffed at every turn- I could tell you stories.
We worked for Obama and our visibility was noticed by the party because we were succesful where others were not. The party keeps asking us where we've been, and we keep saying- right here. The point is, they did not want us, and now they know they need us.
This is not a happy story. It is a sad story about the party that I think is being played out all over the country, albeit with different constituencies. The party has been disorganized.
It is a hopeful story in that the party is awakening, but it is one that also suggests there is tremendous work that must be done by the party.
BTW, Republicans saw this party disconnect early on and tried to bring black folks into the fold, but it didn't work to the degree they wished, and now the party has an opportunity to reconfigure this process of exclusion, or, intermittent inclusion, if you wish., by embracing people who want to belong, even black folks like me.

@ Rambling Rose 22 -- Gosh, Rosie...
you're sounding awfully perimenopausal today. Could yesterday's primary results have something to do with it? Could it be that you're finally realizing the Hildabeast is toast? You can still send her money, you know. She just lent herself 6.5 million more to plod on. But she and Bill still have about 100 million in their joint account, so not to worry. So join the club and send her more money. Lots more. She's just soooooooooo great for the party!

"Grumpy" not "wealthy"
They still haven't fixed the transcript!
Brazile said "grumpy" in reference to McCain, not "wealthy."
It makes quite a difference in what her intention was...

Wow... writing off established voter's
That kind of explains why Democrats keep losing. When you write off your loyal base in favor of new voter's who don't have much of a history of following up on their promises to show up at the polls, then you are pretty much assuring that you will lose. Apparently Brazile is ignorant of basic political facts that any student in Politics 101 knows: Older people vote more. Older people donate more. Older people pay more attention to politics. Latinos are increasing in number and will very soon make up a majority of voter's in several critical states. And I'll throw one in just for good measure: Loyal Democrats don't like being told that their vote doesn't matter because they are not the future of the party.
-
@jebldmm
Older people also die sooner.
I think the Democratic Party leaders and insiders are starting to realize that, though Clinton's supporters are loyal, they are not, like Obama's younger supporters, the Democrats of tomorrow. They don't want to run the risk of turning off this now highly engaged group of young folks and lose them forever to a 3rd party or general apathy that keeps them at home.

Obama will get the Hispanic vote
Why? Several simple reasons, which Obama will begin making soon.
1) He is the son of an immigrant.
2) He is a person of color.
3) He understands the experience of a person between the two worlds of the US and another country.

Good for Brazile
Brazile is one smart lady and no one can smack her down.
Donna can play with the boys without being divisive or tough like the boys. Hillary sold take notes.
-
@ dataguyx -- Obama will get the Hispanic vote...
because Bill Richardson will be his VP, NOT the Hildebeast.

@"The other thread": two things
1. Carol, I think you're confused. The new metric is that the THIRD comment on each post is actually the FIRST. Relax. You're in by a shoe in.
2. Joan, when you comment on the comments, it's more fun.
3. (Which is the new metric for 1)
4. (Which is the new metric for 2): I agree, the Donna/Paul flap was pretty riveting. I think they are both different versions of the real deal.
5. (As I said, and which should be obvious to anyone who loves this country, 5 is the new metric for 2): now I'll feed my four month old boy and then read the rest of the comments.
