Is Obama's coalition just "eggheads and African-Americans"? Is Clinton's emphasis on "Joe and Jane Sixpack" excluding black blue-collar Democrats? A frank exchange of views on CNN.
  • Two Halves Of A Whole

Forgive me for being "Captain Obvious", but, aren't we looking at two halves of a whole here? Its not conservatives versus liberals, as in Republican versus Democrat, but, it is a division within the Democratic party itself. That is the fracture, as it were.

Barack Obama pulls blacks, ultra-libs, yups, younger and the well-educated; Hillary pulls the Reagan-Democrats, working-class, many whites, older and the more conservative element within the party. That, to me, looks a helluva lot like two sides of a whole that is our party.

The Republicans claim to be the "Big tent" party, but, are so narrowly-constricted that, unless you are a born-again-pro-life-anti-gay-pro-gun-God-squad member ...you do NOT fit in. We, as Democrats, have a diversity that makes us stronger..usually. Now, we have to bring those two diverse halves together to appeal to BOTH sides of our party.

Can it be done? Will the rifts heal? The Republicans are rubbing their nasty paws together in anticipation of us NOT being able to bring both halves into synch. They might well be right.
