Hillary Clinton's big, brass ... fortitude

She battled Bill O'Reilly (and won) while hammering away on her gas-tax holiday plan, critics be damned.

The letters thread is now closed.

Sugarman

Am I to understand that you reject all Latinos in the West and Southwest who are of Mexican or Central/South American descent? That somehow, they all hate blacks and will only vote for Hillary, and East Coast Hispanics are better because they are mixed or live in mixed neighborhoods? Does race trump ethnicity in the quest for civil rights?

This is precisely why a group like La Raza exists.

P.S. Rather than quoting secondary, non-refereed sources, check out: http://www.nclr.org/

Cheers.

@ David

David, please.

These are the things that make me worry about your mental stability.

That was a vile thing to say.

@sugarman

If saying "Obama's supporters are simply BETTER PEOPLE than Hillary's" is supposed to be some sort of joke, you're going to need to supply the punchline. I, for one, don't get it. If you're serious here, your absolutism is rather breathtaking.

la raza

In chicano parlance, la raza is almost always in the context of its most famous useage: viva la raza unida (the united people). Most native american tribes had names for themselves that meant "the people". It is not racial exclusivity. Mr. Sugarman seems to be ironically named; piss and vinegar is more apropos. And, as always, Kate doesn't get it. Never did, never will.

Joan, you're as dumb as...

Republicans think Democrats really are.

It has been pretty apparent since th beginning of this nomination process that the GOP would greatly prefer to run against Billary than Obama. Is it any wonder why Scaife would endorse Clinton, who he spent a fortune trying to destroy for 8 years? Is it any wonder why Limbaugh is encouraging Republicans to vote in the Dem primaries that allow it for Clinton?

Now, is it any wonder that Hillary did "so well" against a blowhard like O'Reilly? I'm surprised Hillary doesn't set up camp in Fox News studios. They'll bend over backwards to get her the nomination. They already have an attack machine that doesn't even have to work too hard to drive up her negatives. Obama's a wild card. Better the devil you know.

I wonder, does hysterical feminism make a person dumber than usual?

Sorry Sugarman

I agree with the weeping one, and I never did cotton to no scholarly institutions. I think you crossed the line without cause.

I don't always agree with the Ethics Professor, but she seems to be one of the more reasonable posters around here, an elite category with few members excluding myself. I know you like to nurse your hates and angers and scoff at those who say life would be better without them, but the fact is that civility is a commodity that will be needed to ensure victory this fall.

And, having gone to school with various Crips (pre-franchise), and assorted '13s, I find your portrayal of La Raza and west coast race relations a bit off.

Kitchen metaphors

I was wondering if when Hilary said "If you cant stand the heat get out of the kitchen." she wasn't actually using a sexist phrase herself. If Obama said this,it would not be perceived as benign. Do you think Hilary Clinton is almost teasing Obama with this metaphor. Like she can say it but she knows he can't. It is kind of has appeal when she says it. It alludes to sexist roles and highlights the fact that she is breaking the glass ceiling. Its using sexism to her advantage. I thought it was kind of funny.

Sen. Clinton's Fortitude

Clinton rang circles around Bill O'Reilly because she is much smarter than he is. I'm sure that standing up to TV's quintessential tough guy appeals to the notion that Clinton has fortitude. She has smarts, she has incomparable policy knowledge, she has lots of impressive gifts. Sadly however, she consistently mistakes dissembling and character assassination with fortitude. I think she is running a disgraceful campaign.

Saturday, May 3, 2008 07:06 PM

Jeez...

Anything that Hillary thinks, is OK is fine.

Anything that Hillary thinks is icky, is horrid.

When is Joan going to stop being an apologist for her nightmare of a campaign?

THE ONLY WAY THAT HILLARY CAN WIN IS TO "WIN DIRTY."

AND IF SHE WINS DIRTY, AFRICAN-AMERICANS AND THE NEW, YOUNG VOTERS WILL BE LOST TO THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY -- PERHAPS FOR DECADES.

The sooner pundits like Joan start preparing Hillary supporters to understand this, the better it will be for progressives and liberals in the United States.

And before I sign off -- I think it is disgusting when women allow men to treat them like "one of the boys" when it suits them but get all sensitive about being a feminist the rest of the time. Most women don't have that freedom. Shame on Hillary. Just another way she betrays real feminists.

Saturday, May 3, 2008 07:21 PM

Of course she has fortitude. More importantly,

the Clinton's vast knowledge, flawless reasoning, and spectacular governing record blow Obama out of the water. Please. He doesn't have the brains to make policy. His 'new politics' are old liberal cliches, credit he's taken for other's legislation, and Clinton retreads. And he can't even get those right. He adopts healthcare reform without making it universal. He steals Clinton bipartisanship, then insults the red States with Wright's charming commentary and lines about bitter lifestyles and religion. He talks about taking the high road, then throws the good Reverend under a mac truck. And his one word slogans of 'hope', 'change', and 'believe' are more shallow than Bush's 'compassionate conservatism', and possibly Nader's 'proportional representation'.

We need the Clintons now more than ever, to fix the economy, which they've already done brilliantly, and deal with two wars strategically.

Despite our mass of political capital, it's starting to look like Obama could actually loose the ge. Even if he did win, his ignorance would show up real quick, and we'd loose the congress, then the presidency. It's not clear that the party could recover in our lifetime. That doesn't matter to his worshippers. The far left live in a dream world and don't care about the damage they do. To this day, Nader's Traiters have not admitted their role in putting Bush in office. If Obama melt's down, they'll just find someone else to blame. I'm guessing Hillary's third cousin's butcher's wife, who bought a new watch and betrayed the tinkers union for a loaf of designer bread, which brought the entire party crashing down.

Beyond all that, if I have to listen to five more years of Obama's shallow rhetoric, and his supporters childish insults, I'll join the Wigs and have done with it.
